HealthCare Court Ruling Expected on Thursday

Featured Replies

It's expected that the Supreme Court will rule on Thursday on the Healthcare law recently passed. Many expect it to be shot down.

I follow this blog that deals with Court rulings and this guy thinks it will not be shot down.

Anyone claiming any level of certainty about the ruling is being foolish. I can see it going a litany of ways and none of them should be surprising.

Should the Court vote down the existing law look for a quick push for single-payer.

I heard Jay Carney say tonight that the individual mandate was a Republican idea. Unless the White House had reason to believe it was going to be shot down would they be playing Obama's typical "it's everyone but my fault"?

It will be anything but quick. But, striking down this law basically eliminates any other reform alternative to a single-payer system. So, over the long-term it might make a single-payer system a more viable option.

The strong possibility of going to a single payer system is one reason why I have been puzzled by strong conservative movement to over rule the mandate. For those strongly opposed to the mandate, would you prefer single payer or the mandate?

Queen Pelosi predicts a victory and the SC to pass it.

I've got to admit I'm a nervous wreck about this. I believe based on what I've read that at least the individual mandate will be struck down. That said if it is I hope and pray that the entire law is tossed. If the mandate is severed and thrown out while the rest of the law is allowed to stand then I see the insurance industry collapsing under the weight of the regulations that are going to happen because of Obamacare, clearing the way for single payor in a few years. Our very own John Yarmuth stated on Mandy Connell's show that Obamacare was just a first step towards single payor, that SP was the ultimate liberal goal and that the liberals were patient. The cynical conspiracy theorist in me says that the libs put the mandate in believing it would be challenged and struck down and then come swooping in with single payor to "save" the american people.

Looks like the law, including the mandate, is largely upheld. Roberts writes the opinion.

Scalia, Kennedy, Thomas, and Alito dissent. Roberts broke with his conservative brethren to uphold the law, it looks like.

Where are you guys seeing that?

CNN has Breaking News: "The Supreme Court has struck down the individual mandate for health care."
