June 27, 201214 yr I didn't drop his name to equate him with the others. Just pointing out that his style of play would've led to a lot of triple-doubles in the no-D '60s. Fat Lever probably would've done the same, and perhaps Alvin Robertson too, because of their abilities to stuff the stat sheet. I agree with your point. How about Rondo? I think he averages a Triple against those guys.

Of course, it's not strictly about numbers, but the total package. Leadership, unselfishness, team play, clutch play and championships are also in the equation along with the numbers. I'm not suggesting that it is purely about numbers, I was responding to a post where someone said he wilted against Russell and didn't do anything to make his teams better. As far as Kareem and Malone their scoring numbers are great but it's not just about the numbers. Now that you mentioned him, Kareem should get more love than he does. Might not have been flashy but was the best in the NBA for about 10-15 years.

Wilts playoff PPG his first 6 years in the NBA, while averaging 27 rebounds and 3 assist. 7th year he averaged 21.7points 9 assist and 29.1 rebounds BTW won Title that year. Shot over 54% for his career so he wasn't padding numbers by taking every shot. Career average of 30ppg 22rpg and 4 assist. Not sure where he was supposed to have wilted at? Head to head he out scored and out rebounded Russell, Russell played on the best team and in the end basketball is a team game. If Wilt was on the Celtics it wouldn't even be up for discussion who was GOAT. It would have been hard for him to play for the Celts since Red has stated he wouldn't want to coach a player as selfish as Wilt. If you haven't had the chance read Bill Simmons' book about the NBA. Lots of good humor and plenty of stats for geeks like myself. He has a whole chapter regarding Wilt v Bill. He has a bunch of myths and one pertains to the talent that each had to work with was actually pretty close over the course of their careers.

When people see a great player, they always say they'll never be anyone that good, but that's silly. You never know. I get a kick out of some people I talk to at work and in my family. Since Cal has been at UK I hear the same thing after every season. We'll be hurting next year, player like (insert name...Wall, Cousins, Knight, Davis, etc.) don't come along every year. I don't even think they realize that they've said it for 3 years. Now I'm reading about Jabari Parker being the best prospect since LBJ, and from the videos, I'm buying. If Calipari lands him, he may be the best player he's ever had.
