G.O.A.T who is it?

The Big O...

The Big O piled up silly numbers in an era where no defense was played. His numbers should be approached with the same skeptical eye that's been cast at all the ABA guys over the years.

This thread is really unnecessary. It's MJ every freaking day of the week, and twice on Sundays. Nobody combined all the natural gifts + killer instinct + the willingness to keep working hard and improve every aspect of his game.

Also, keep in mind that I loathe MJ and find him to be one of the most regrettable human beings in pro sports history; only a few shades less regrettable than Ty Cobb. In other words, I'm not approaching this as a fanboy, but as an impartial observer.

The only argument I could make for Jordan and against Wilt is that I think Jordan's game transcends the eras because of his position. At the time Wilt played he had no equal. I'd be curious if you could transplant him into this generation and see if he had similar success against Shaq, DHoward and those of similar size.

Wilt piled up huge numbers against 6-6 centers for the bulk of his career. Next ...

Then where are all the other guys from that era that posted a season triple double? Against no defense, should have been others, right???

You're too young to have watched him correct?

I'm not saying he's not great. Just that his stats are inflated because of the era. Do you believe Wilt would've scored 100 in today's NBA?

Live, yes. Have seen a ton of his games on tape though...

Because of his sheer size advantage Wilt was a different situation. I truly believe Oscar would have translated to any generation because of his mix of size for a guard, skill and feel for the game...

Then you recognize the fact that he savaged guys who A) didn't play defense and B) didn't care to. What would he have done against a great defensive specialist? You know, the kind who didn't exist in the '60s?

Ask yourself what Magic or MJ would've done against the guys O was killing ...

For that matter, what about Westbrook?

Can't argue that. And that's the same argument I'd make for MJ. Can't say the same for Wilt.

Kobe scored 70, so by that estimation I believe he could have.

Pretty similar to what Oscar did. Jordan would have scored more, but not had the assist or rebounding numbers. Magic would have been right there with assists and boards, but not in points.

Did you just talk about Russell Westbrook in the same breath as Oscar? We're done here...

Seriously? I don't agree with you alot but I respect your opinion, but seriously Russell Westbrook gets in this conversation how?

The NBA stats from '61/'62 are so absurd it's not even comparible to any season in the modern era. Teams averaged over 2,000 more shots attempted than the '07/'08 season per Bill Simmons' book.

1. Jordan

2. Russell

3. Bird

4. Magic

Wilt's statistics are off the charts but it's well documented that he was very selfish player that was set in his ways and a detriment to many of the teams he played on. All you have to do is look at what he didn't do in the playoffs, many times he plain wilted when it really mattered. On the opposing side look at what Russell did in the playoffs, and you can make a case for him being the second best player just in game sevens alone. The stats don't lie, when the game mattered he made it happen and that's what the GOAT does.

What is 33.2, 37, 35, 34.7, 29.3, 28? Wilts playoff PPG his first 6 years in the NBA, while averaging 27 rebounds and 3 assist.

7th year he averaged 21.7points 9 assist and 29.1 rebounds BTW won Title that year.

Shot over 54% for his career so he wasn't padding numbers by taking every shot.

Career average of 30ppg 22rpg and 4 assist.

Not sure where he was supposed to have wilted at?

Head to head he out scored and out rebounded Russell, Russell played on the best team and in the end basketball is a team game. If Wilt was on the Celtics it wouldn't even be up for discussion who was GOAT.
