I explained that the country fair has a contest where tractors with suped up engines see how far they can pull things. He said "Then what?"

 

No good answer to that so I said "That's when you go get some corn on the cob."

My 12 year old refused to go to the fair one night because all of his buddies wanted to go to the tractor pull. I did good. Yes. I did good. :lol:

Nope. He's never seen either.

 

I used to check out the demolition derby out at Northern KY Speedway in Union after the regular races. Still can smell that dirt.

He needs to get to a fair ... at least to say he has seen these things.

One of my brothers and I took his oldest son to a demolition derby a few years back when he was 2 1/2. My nephew was horrified initially (by the sound of the derby destruction...not by the fair-goers), but then each time we'd walk him away from the arena he'd pitch a fit and want to go back in. He didn't know which took precedence: the destruction, or how frightening the noises were to him. It was hilarious.

I must confess...I have been 19 a couple of times and then some. I really don't know exactly what goes on at a tractor pull. I do however know what a tractor is, so I could make a guess...:sssh:

Add a funnel cake and a fried pork sandwich and you have the county fair trifecta.

City geeks. None of you have raised your own hog either for the 4H to auction at the end? By the way, you get more bang for your buck down these parts in an election year.

I watched an episode of Auction Hunters the other night; they found two racing lawnmowers in a storage unit. Big bucks.

 

And one of Elizabeth's classmates from high school pretty much funded her college by raising and then selling livestock at the Germantown Fair.

Awe man Clyde had I know this earlier I could have fixed up my other Demo Derby car for him to run at a fair, Im sure he would enjoy it. I have to admit, I grew up at the county fairs. From raising pigs and vegtables to demo derby cars. Never much into tractor pulls or truck pulls, but I could watch them.
