July 11, 201214 yr Even healthy, Rolen's glory days are over. He can be serviceable off the bench & occasionally spelling Frazier at 3rd, but Rolen is no longer an everyday 3rd baseman. He can't handle it physically, and quite frankly, he can't hit like he used to. Sure, he's capable of stringing together a few good at bats over the course of 10 games, but the bottom line is that he cannot handle the rigors of a 162 game season...or even an 81 game 2nd half. I like Rolen & I think he has brought a lot to the Reds' organization, both on & off the field. With that said, he hasn't produced lately and that's what matters. Scott Rolen is a professional and although he wants to play everyday, deep down I bet he knows that Frazier is the better option for the Reds.
July 11, 201214 yr Maybe if Rolen retires we can bring up Costanzo to improve the offense guys:idunno: or Willie Harris
July 12, 201214 yr Maybe if Rolen retires we can bring up Costanzo to improve the offense guys:idunno: or Willie Harris It seems the Reds depth is pretty pathetic right now. What happened to the farm system?
July 12, 201214 yr It seems the Reds depth is pretty pathetic right now. What happened to the farm system? AAA is almost always filled with Minor League journeymen and orginizational filler...The Reds depth outside of AAA for the most part really isnt that bad...With the trades this past offseason the farm took a hit but guys have stepped up and improved their prospect status and the Reds have had a very nice last couple drafts...
July 12, 201214 yr If he doesnt start Frazier Jocketty needs to come down to the dugout and fire him but theway Dusty thinks its a big series and he'll want to play the vets Rolen and Ludwick agaist their old team
July 14, 201214 yr Yep. Still not ready to throw in the towel on him. Did you share your plan with Dusty? If so he stole it as he now says they have a plan for Rolen. Rolen out of the lineup on Friday | reds.com: News
July 14, 201214 yr As I said in the series thread, I predict Rolen starts game 2 of the Reds Cardinals series with Lohse pitching. Lohse has an average fastball and relies on location and off speed pitches so Dusty will go with the veteran bat.
July 15, 201214 yr Like I said when Cairo was getting a few starts while Rolen was out no matter what Frazier does it isn't enough for Dusty. Back then it was so obvious Dusty didn't want Frazier to get too hot because he wanted to plug Rolen right back in. I'm wondering what the relationship is with Dusty and Walt. There is no way Frazier shouldn't be getting a very large majority of the starts. People that play the Dusty is overachieving with this lineup aren't looking at the fact that this lineup is better than the Pirates, the Cards have dealt with way too man injuries and the Reds starting pitchers haven't missed a start. The Reds as constructed are good enough to have at leas the record they have. Rolen starting this much is embarrassing with a replacement ready and playing far better than him.
July 15, 201214 yr Pirates lose. Let's go for it with Frazier at third and Heisey in center tonight:ylsuper:

July 15, 201214 yr But can the Reds at least maintain what they are doing without Votto or with Votto not near 100%? You cannot tell me that there isn't something wrong with him. He obviously isn't at his best and it looks to me it's bothering him. I'm hoping it's something that will get better with time. Certainly the Reds brass aren't running him out there hoping he can "just play thru it". The medical staff hasn't had that stellar of a reputation over the past few years.
