Will Rolen Return As Regular 3rd Baseman

Featured Replies

If Frazier is still producing when Rolen comes back, Ludwick and Heisey shouldn't be obstacles to him earning playing time in the outfield.

The bottom line is with Dusty they will be...

You're right. Having Harpo Marx or Frank Stallone on the bench is better than a healthy Rolen.

If Rolen comes back does anyone really believe he will be on the bench

Thats the problem...

Im not even sure he is hurt physically as much as mentically, is anyone even sure that he has a real injury?..

Is that you Yogi?

Is that you Yogi?

 Im just saying if he wasnt healthy after a full offseason in which he claimed hes never felt better than the old man isnt going to be any better after a month or two of rest...

What was the so called injury anyways, shoulder fatigue or shoulder imflamation  Rolen was one of the best in the business, he is now done and anyone that doesnt think so is wearing blinders...

FRAZIER ROCKS AGAIN TONIGHT

Would be 2nd in Slugging for 3rd baseman if he had more at bats behind Wright

Will anybody be surprised if the "toothpick" starts Rolen right out of the chute? You shouldn't because you know he loves his veterans and doesn't have a lot of confidence in the youngsters when he has to choose between the two.

I will not be surprised at all and it's the kind of thing that could really hurt the team...Frazier also will not get every at bat in LF because Dusty already has a platoon going out there...Both the Stubbs injury and Rolen injury have been blessings in disguise...

It wouldn't kill me too bad I guess if Rolen came back and played almost full time at 3rd and I could be guaranteed that Frazier would play almost everyday in LF with Heisey in CF, but that won't happen...Ludwick will still get his at bats in LF and Stubbs won't be injured for that long...

I'm really just hoping Rolen doesn't make it back and Stubbs gets packaged with a prospect for a LF...Frazier could play everyday that way at 3rd, so could Heisey in CF and then the new LF...Push Ludwick onto the bench and leave him there...

Frazier .275 7 hr and 23 rbis thats close to being Rolen's production for all of last year and this year

Stubbs is better in every aspect of the game than Heisey.

No he's not.

Based off of what the fact that he has a little more speed? Stubbs can steal bags pretty good but that's about all that he can do pretty good...He is one of the fastest players in the league but yet he can't lay down a bunt consistently, Heisey can...When Stubbs does bunt for a hit it's usually a terrible bunt but he makes it to first on his speed alone...Heisey can place it slowly right down the 3rd base line consistently and get hits even though he is slower than Stubbs...

Again Stubbs is one of the fastest guys in the league but yet he doesn't use it to it's full potential in the OF because he is scared to lay out in fear of getting hurt or the ball getting past him, he is hurt from a check swing though  so he should probably try to get to more balls in the OF...Heisey although a step slower plays with passion and hustle and gets to balls that Stubbs either watches bounce off the wall or bounce 2 feet in front of him...Stubbs has a Higher Fielding Percentage but he also plays one of safest/cautious OF's of any CF I have ever seen...He also has no approach at the dish...

I'm done giving Stubbs a pass based on his Rookie year and 2 years ago and I could care less that he has elite speed...He isn't a significant upgrade over Heisey in any way...

Heisey has a better career avg and slugging percentage than Stubbs...Stubbs has a slightly better OBP but not enough to lose sleep over...Heisey was also much better coming up through the minors...In about 50 more games in his Minor League Career Heisey has about 100 more hits and 2x's more HR's than Stubbs and a much better average...The Minor Leagues stats don't matter now and I know that but Stubbs never has been way better than Heisey at any level...Also Heisey has had it harder in coming off the bench, he is just now getting the chance to play everyday and he has looked a lot better than Stubbs out there imo on both sides of the ball...

They are also the same age, for some reason it seems like people think Stubbs is some young pup and still a prospect when in reality the being young card really can't be played anymore...If he hasn't improved yet he probably never will...

The following comes from a bleacher report article and is my exact feelings on the Stubbs vs Heisey debate

Isn't this the same website that claimed a Heisey-for-Carlos Marmol trade was imminent last season?
I'm not ready to give up on Rolen. If healthy, I feel he can still be a big contributor to the team. If he does come back healthy, I would like to see Frazier get some time in LF, when he's not spelling Rolen at 3B.

Still feel the same way? Rolen needs to retire tomorrow. Playing him, healthy or not is killing this team.

Yep. Still not ready to throw in the towel on him.
