June 8, 201214 yr I am left with the feeling that either he took this past break without having a true recurrance of any serious shoulder issues (especially as he was so clear soming out of Spring that things had healed) or that if he did have some problem, he is pushing too soon to come back. Ultiamtely I think he's struggles again down the road and again pulls the plug due to nagging injuries.
June 8, 201214 yr I think a couple people need to sit down with Rolen and be real with him...Walt and Dusty need to stop beating around the bush with him and tell him thanks for everything but your done....Give him a nice retirement ceremony at an upcoming game and have him retire mid season like Kerry Wood...Keep him around the clubhouse the rest of the year as some sort of coach preferably another hitting coach...
June 10, 201214 yr I'm not ready to give up on Rolen. If healthy, I feel he can still be a big contributor to the team. If he does come back healthy, I would like to see Frazier get some time in LF, when he's not spelling Rolen at 3B.

Rolen will hurt this team more than he will help because if he comes back he isnt good enough to compensate for the log jam he will create for Dusty...Frazier, Heisey and Ludwick all need playing time in LF with Rolen back and Dusty will have someone different out there everyday with no one being able to get into a groove...When Rolen was healthy Frazier sat more than he played, that will not help this team... Dusty struggles to manage multiple guys at one position, he tries to keep them all fresh and rotate them instead of playing the obvious best olayer which would be Frazier in LF...If I could be guaranteed Frazier would still get a lot of at bats at 3rd I wouldnt mind but it took Rolen getting hurt to get Todd playing time...

June 10, 201214 yr Rolen can help be a caddy for Johnny Bench on the course and eventually get into coaching. Besides a cardinal might get injured tripping over the wheelchair doan at third. Maybe they can bring up Costanzo.

I was soo hoping he realized it in the off season. We need to get over Scott Rolen. He has done nothing for the club for a while now.

June 10, 201214 yr First, some of you who think the Reds, or any other organization, should simply discard Rolen are off your rockers. That's not how you conduct business, nor how you treat a person of his stature in the game. This isn't Donald Trump across the table with his goofy wavy coif saying "you're fired". Rolen, when healthy (and bottom line is that is the key) is gold glove caliber and that's a fact. He can't charge balls and throw seeds across his body on bunts barely out of the box any more, but there aren't that many guys in the league now that can. Secondly, Rolen will prove in quick fashion if he's healthy. Mainly at the plate. The last stint for him is the worst I can recall him at the dish. And there will be no way that a team, regardless of the ineptitude of the manager, can run a team atop the division with that lack of production. And now that my rant is over, I would bet a dollar to a donut that Dumsty will plug him in quicker than my kids plug in their Iphone chargers after a long trip. I can hear Cosell in the back ground "Down goes Frazier, down goes Frazier".

He did look bad, and it's obvious he wasn't healthy. That's why I said "if healthy". I honestly don't think Rolen will try to go back out there if he's not healthy.
June 10, 201214 yr Why did he give it a go this season if he wasn't healthy? And why isn't he healthy after an off season? The Reds missed on Rolen a few years back, when he left Philly. He's pretty far on the downside of his career now, if not at the end.

Rolen if I recall was saying prior to the season he felt better than he has in a long time, that worked out well...Im not even sure he is hurt physically as much as mentically, is anyone even sure that he has a real injury?...He is a professional and was a damn good player but I think more so than being hurt he just knows his bat is slow and cant produce anymore...I know he has battled injuries in the past but he wouldnt keep coming back if he was still hurt...I think this last time either him or management realized he was done and saying his injury was still lingering was a nice way to say that a very good player doesnt have it anymore rather than just cutting him and sending him packing... If Rolen comes back then I have this all wrong however I hope Im right because even if healthy he wont help the team, he was supposed to be healthy to start the year...The injury is a nice way imo to keep Rolen around the team for the rest of the year as he deserves while at the same time not having his limited production hurt the team...Hopefully they are weening him into a coaching position after the season while keeping him around... Thats my theory :popcorn:
