June 5, 201214 yr I'd appreciate my BGP family remembering my father in prayer. We were cleaning out his house, preparing to sell it yesterday when he informed us (my sisters and I) that he had a lump on his side and wanted me to look at it. It's firm, just below his ribs on his right side. It's nearly the size of a tennis ball. It's been several years since I've studied pathology well enough to reasonably diagnose a lump on the liver, however, I'm certain it's on the right lobe because you can palpate it easily. So, he has a CT scan scheduled on Wednesday and to say I'm apprehensive is a drastic understatement. While cancerous lesions of the liver are almost always metastasized from another organ, and he's not had the classic symptoms, I'm cautiously optimistic that the odds are that it's benign. Or at least I hope it is because most cancers of the liver once diagnosed take the patient within a year. Considering that my mother passed 2 yrs ago from a blood clot after a simple surgery, I have to admit that I'm not sure how well I'd deal with losing both parents before I even turn 45 years old. So, with that said, please keep him in your prayers. He's a Vietnam vet, a retired marine, a great dad, great grandfather, an obstinate turd, a terrible turkey caller and the only parent I have left.

June 5, 201214 yr Author Any chance it could be a hernia? Let's hope so. Best of luck. Possible I guess. But it didn't feel hemorrhagic. It was very firm. He has the CT tomorrow at 7:30. I appreciate all of your thoughts and prayers.
June 5, 201214 yr Spindoc, I had a tumor on my liver removed last December. Praying that your father will have an outcome as well as mine. Prayers from the Vito family for your father as well as you.
