Hatfields and McCoys

Anybody else watch the first chapter of this mini-series on History.

I liked it. It didn't make the people of KY and WV look like stupid hicks. The actiong was generally pretty good and it was very interesting seeing what actually happened on a feud that has gained folklore status.

Does anyone else find it funny though that the "dramatic license" has a greedy lawyer as the primary catalyst of the tensions between the families?

I missed it and I am pretty upset that I did. But, if you ask me, this movie is long overdue. Has the story ever been told before on tv/film? Was the mini-series on the History Channel done well?

I thought the show was moving along perfectly well without moving in that direction. Does anyone know if he was even a real person? I thought the first chapter was good but they spent way too much time IMO on the "romeo and Juliet" love story. I don't really know much of the actual history of the feud so it's hard for me to speak to the accuracy of the show but I'll watch the next two chapters.

Cline was a real person and played a part in the story. There is so much folk lore attached to this story that even for those of us who grew up here in the area, it is sometimes hard to tell what is the truth, the whole truth, etc.

The feud all took place within 20 minutes of my home, I married a Hatfield and I know many many descendents on both sides. Believe me, it is hard to know exactly what took place, even though a lot of the facts are recorded in court records, jail records, etc. There are so many stories that have been handed down from family member to family member that it is impossible to decipher what is embellished. Even the newspaper reports of the day, which really fueled the whole feud to the rest of the nation, were blown out of proportion.

There are several good books on the topic, and several that are worthless, lol.

Do you care to make a recomendation of one of the good books that you've read. I'd like to learn more on the feud.

Thought the acting was good. A very interesting story. Here you will find a list of articles and books about the feud.

The Hatfield and McCoy Feud

I am actually a direct decendant of Devil Anse Hatfield so I was very interested in watching this mini series. My name is even in the Hatfield geneology. I liked what I saw last night, although I did spend some time away watching Heat/Celtics, and a replay of an historic UFC fight.

From my reading about the feud this was one of the big factors that kept the animosity between the two families smoldering.

I have always been somewhat intrigued by the story, so I definitely wanted to tune in last night. I plan on watching tonight and tomorrow as well. I thought that it was definitely done well. Kevin Costner and Bill Paxton seem to work off each other very well and the rest of the acting is good too.

My roommate and I talked about owning it on DVD, but definitely need to find somewhere else to buy it. History Channel wants $45.

I liked this one very well.

It is a more of an analytical and historical look at the feud, not a romanticized "story". It may not be everyone's cup of tea but I thought it was informative and well put together. It has been about 20 years ago when I read it though.

I watched the first hour last night but couldn't stay awake to finish the 2nd. I'll finish it tonight as well as watch the 2nd part. What I saw I thought was pretty good. The acting was as good as could be expected with Bill Paxton and Kevin Costner playing the 2 lead roles.

I enjoyed it lastnight and look forward to watching Part II tonight.

It was pretty interesting. Looking forward to seeing the next 2 episodes.
