May 30, 201214 yr second episode was very good. Really looking forward to what I know is going to happen tonight. I'm curious how they are going to cover all the stuff that they need to cover to bring the story home. They've taken a lot of time establishing the background, characters and setting but there is a LOT of stuff still to cover. Wonder how they will do it in one more 2 hours installment. :idunno:
May 30, 201214 yr I find it interesting, especially during the first night, how long it was until there was a commercial. Then it seemed like there was one every five minutes. Yeah and even last night, it seemed like they went a hlaf an hour without a commercial break and then all of a sudden they cram them in every 5 or so minutes like you said. BTW, the Swamp People commercial is a little weird. Just something bothers me about when they show the close ups of the Swamp People.

LC, I thought I was the only one "creeped out" by the Swamp People commericials.

May 31, 201214 yr Author Very well done mini-series. I found it very interesting that Randall and Anse both completely changed as the years progressed. Randall became a bitter man that distanced himself from God while Anse became more thoughtful and embraced God. I would have really loved to see someone smack Perry Cline around. I don't know how accurate his portrayal was I really didn't like him. I was happy to see that Bad Frank got his. A few questions: Was Cottontop really the simple person that was portrayed? I read at least one account online that he was rather vicious and actually killed the McCoy girl while she was begging for her life. Did Nancy McCoy really marry Johnse Hatfield just so she could find out where his relatives were to get her revenge?

After how great the series was, you would think they would give that the time it deserved. Good questions All Tell. I wondered that about Cottontop as well.

May 31, 201214 yr I enjoyed it all. Not much censorship on the language. But I liked it alot. I'd definitely watch it again.

From all I've read, Mounts was very violent but he was also the "simple minded" person portrayed. The death of his father the violent side in him was magnified I believe. Other issues I had with the re-telling vs. Accounts: Sarah McCoy was trying to get out of the house to see to her daughter (Alifair) whom she knew was dying. She begged to be allowed to go to her side and Vance clubbed her. Also, Calvin McCoy was killed while making a diversion for Randall McCoy to escape from the burning house. It was enough to allow him to run past the Hatfields. Mounts did shoot Alifair but it was when he was given the order to do so by Johnse and Cap. Cline had no romantic interest in Rosanna, ever. I think Johnse was not the "deeply in love" kind of guy. His pattern was always whatever new woman happened by. The movie did a great job of revealing how big a role Cline and Phillips really played in escalting the feud.
May 31, 201214 yr Author Thanks Hatz. From your reading was Johnse the less then enthusiastic participant that was portrayed in the mini? In the mini he said that he purposely missed when the Hatfield sons were executed. If he did tell Mounts to shoot Alifair (how old was she at the time of her death?) that would indicate to me that he was a willing participant. In the end notes of the mini it said that Johnse was imprisoned when he returned to the area. Do you know why he returned?
May 31, 201214 yr I am actually a direct decendant of Devil Anse Hatfield so I was very interested in watching this mini series. My name is even in the Hatfield geneology. I liked what I saw last night, although I did spend some time away watching Heat/Celtics, and a replay of an historic UFC fight. Found out more about my relation. Devil Anse Hatfield was my grandmothers great grandmothers uncle. That or my grandmothers great great grandmothers uncle. One of the two, as confusing as it is.
