Bengals organization has reservations about Andy Dalton

Featured Replies

I don't know any about Andy's arm strength, but Gruden thinks it's fine. If I'm the Bengals, though, I'd have no problem if the rest of the league thinks it's weak.

I'm only going to listen to the opinions of people who predicted before last season that the Bengals would go 8-8 or better (and I'm only aware of one: that's me :D).

My opinion: Dalton's arm strength is perfectly fine in order to win and win often in the NFL. Key is building a solid offense around him so he doesn't have to throw it 70 yards on the button in order to score. I think the Bengals have a solid offense around Dalton. Hence his arm strength is just fine.

He's gonna complete 1/4 of his passes to the law firm anyway.

For what it's worth Joe Reedy said the other day he looks bigger in the upper body. I know that might not translate into much bigger arm strength, but it can't hurt.

Really? I seem to remember being the only one hearing stuff from people all last off season for suggesting the Bengals would do well. Would have been nice if you were there to back me up on that, since you said you thought that too haha. Maybe you did say that though and I just don't remember haha.

I guess that's better than Joe saying he thought he looked bigger in the lower body.

Excellent point.

Is that right!? Here was my prediction from the thread last summer:

I think it is too early to say because of the QB situation. If either Dalton or G his name is too long plays well in the offense I could see 8-8 or who knows. If not, I think it will be a rough year.

What was your prediction in that thread lneck?

Did I make one in the thread? I looked quickly but didn't see it.

And my prediction of 8-8 or better wasn't qualified with ifs and buts like your soft, lame, limp prediction was. It was a definite 8-8 or better. If you want to verify such, I suggest you talk to some fellow with the first name of Cris who hangs around the NFL a bit (and for the record, he thought I was nuts). I actually won two cheese burgers on that prediction (I know, I know, the last thing I need is two cheeseburgers). One from a fellow partner at the firm, another from a good friend of mine and Cris' (Cris wouldn't take the bet: he said he didn't like taking advantage of a good friend. HAH! I showed him who knows more about the NFL :D)

To be honest, I wasn't in the Pro Football forum much last year and really have never been. As the Ru knows, I'm not a pro football fan and not really even a Bengals fan. Had I been on here back then, I'd have definitely backing you up.

I just knew that the Bengals had won the division in 09; they got rid of some of the cancers in the hope of promoting better team chemistry and team play; they would emphasize the run more in 11 with a new QB and to keep their defense off the field more (actually I had some inside knowledge that was going to happen); that team discipline was going to be taken more seriously (again, some inside info); and they had a very soft schedule. I really didn't think my prediction as outlandish.

Glad to know there were others that were "nuts". Great football minds must think alike.:thumb:

Play of the day at Bengals minicamp: Andy Dalton with a 55-yard (in the air) bomb to some guy wearing #18 who's really tough to cover.

Man I wish he had a strong arm.

A 55 yard bomb, in the air? Am I missing the other way to accomplish this feat?

A one yard pass could be ran for 55 yards and count as a 55 yard completion. So he was just saying how the ball traveled 55 yards in the air for the completion.

So, a QB rocking a 55-yard throw is what you need to feel groovy about? Where's David Klingler when you need him? Pretty sure he can still do that.
