May 10, 201214 yr Yeah, Dusty and other managers around MLB do that a lot. If that's how he would be used I'd be all for that. I just find that highly unlikely You're probably right. But if he can't do that, how in the world can he be a starter?

He pitched the 9th inning in his last 6 games, 5 of them were save opportunities. He recorded 2 saves and blew 3 saves. If he wasn't the closer they sure were giving the regular guy a lot of rest.

Yep. I was right. Sergio Santos is the closer, he's been on the DL since 4/20.

Sounds like he had to be the closer to lose the job.

Really stang cmon...This is like saying Marshall was signed to be the set up man so there for he is the set up man even though he has been the closer all year...Its the same senario Santos got hurt Madson got hurt so both Cordero and Marshall asumed the respective teams closer roles...I know Coco was signed to be a set up man however in his mind he is still a closer and I was just saying I am glad the Reds couldnt come to terms with him...Its obvious he cant handle save situations anymore and for the last few years was living on the edge...He wouldve saved in Cincy...

If Marshall gets hurt and then say Logan Ordrusek (sp.) closes for the next three weeks, does that mean he is the teams actual closer? Especially when Marshall gets back and they put him back in that role? Cordero was not signed to be the closer, he only got the opportunity to be because of injury. Yet apparently he wasn't even good enough to fill in for the closer while the actual closer was out. UKMustang was right, Cordero was not the teams actual closer. He was not the closer to start the season, and would not have been once the guy got healthy. Unless the actual closer for Toronto is out for the year, then I changed what i say. If it was just going to be about a month or two, then Cordero was just a guy filling in the role.

Santos only had 4 save opportunities and blew 2 of them--he has an even 9.00 ERA. Cordero had 6 save opportunities, he was awarded the closer's role after the injury. It is very possible, even probable that he could have kept it had he been successful. Instead he failed and it has now been passed to Casey Janssen.

Regarding Chapman, is there a way to stretch a guy out during the season? I'd throw him 2+ innings a few times, but I'm not sure if that'll stretch him out or not.
