What do you buy for a 4 year old?

Featured Replies

It is my nephew so the parents I do know. In talking about it with my coworker a tambourine may be a good idea for my amusement. Which selfishly drives my purchases sometimes :D

I was also considering a slip-n-slide. Is that age appropriate?

As long as your nephew's back yard isn't a cliff, or lined with broken glass, I don't see why not.

Oh, and if he doesn't have any yet, get that boy some Dr. Seuss. I've bought every one of my nephews at least one Dr. Seuss book...and it's pretty cool when I get to babysit and they bring the book up to me, ask me to read it to (or with) them, and inform me that "you got this for me".

Never to early to introduce a good nerf gun or sword/battle axe into the mix either.

Good call. :thumb:

A flashlight or a big empty cardboard box. Seriously.

Agreed! Checking out what my 4-year-old boy plays with---

A scooter--unless he already has one. Any of the nerf gun stuff. Or a pop-up play tent to be his "base" when he plays with the nerf gun.

Stop by Learning Express and you'll find something easily & quickly.

If you don't want to do that, just buy him a basketball or something related to sports. Play it with him for 20 minutes and it'll be well worth it.

In all honesty you're better off putting $25 into some type of education fund...

Last time I had a 4 year-old boy was 27 years ago. Things have changed.

Heck, the kid will probably need a 4g phone just to keep up with the other 4 year-olds in the neighborhood.

My nephew who will be 4 in 2 months absolutely loves Thomas The Train. He loves trains, animal stuff, probably be getting a bike before long. Although if it were up to me I would be getting him some shoulder pads and a helmet.

 Just got the 4-yr-old's end of year evaluation/skill checklist from the teacher.

Skill: Does he know his phone number? His response (quoted by teacher)

"I don't really text"
