Adam Dunn is back

Featured Replies

Following a year to forget, Dunn is back. He is right on track for his more typical 40 HR, 100 RBI, 100 walk. .250 AVG seasons. We'll see if he can stay there and if he does, how do you explain last season for perhaps the most consistent 40 HR hitter in MLB history? I look at what is happening with Pujols and wonder - is there that big of an adjustment going to the AL?

I think with Dunn it was age and lack of work ethic. He even admitted it during the year and said he would be a lot more dedicated this past off season and it is showing. I'm happy for him and I hope he continues to do well. I'd like to see him get to 500 HRs. He is on pace for 50 HR, 128 RBI, and a million strikeouts this year.

A very conservative estimate.

Add in 100+ walks and I will take that season every year. 12 years of that and you are in the Hall of Fame.

I'd take it as well. He has never averaged close to 50 and 128.

True to a degree. Depends on what you consider close. Dunn #'s are 40 HR, 100 RBI, 100+ BB over 7 years.

10 HR and 30 RBI is a pretty big stretch. 40 and 100 is good but 50 and 130 is another level most can't reach.

I think the adjustment that came with the move to the American League did hurt him. However, I think the adjustment to being a designated hitter played a bigger factor than most people realize.

Agree 100%. The adjustment to the AL was big but sitting on the pine and batting every couple of innings is a big adjustment that some guys just can't seem to make.

It seems that Pat Burrell had much the same problem when he signed with Tampa Bay.

Ventura seems to agree with you...

Dunn is 4th in the AL in RBIs.

Of all the #3 hole hitters in MLB Dunn is in the top 4 with coming to the plate with no runners on base (Votto, Pujols, Bautista). Pretty impressive production considering that fact.

Should be in the All-Star game in KC.

I absolutely loved Adam Dunn. I hated all the bad press he got here. He was one of my favorite Reds. I just took a gander at this stats. His offensive stats are pretty darn impressive. Especially when you take into consideration, at his current rate, if he ends up with 550 AB's (and that is certainly within the realm of possibility), he's end up with 257 K's.

We're of like mind. Thrilled for him especially considering last season.

I agree 100%. I don't think he was ever given a fair shake in Cincinnati. I know his defense was bad and i know he strikes out a lot. However, i have always argued about being able to be replaced. How many hitters have we had since he left hit 40 homers? NONE! How many hitters have we had drive in 100 runs since he left? One! His numbers have never been replaced and he compiled those numbers hitting 5th, 2nd, and goofing Boone even batted him first a couple of times! Ventura has it right batting him 3rd. He will drive in 100 every year, if you put him there and leave him! I am so happy for him!
