June 28, 201214 yr I agree 100%. I don't think he was ever given a fair shake in Cincinnati. I know his defense was bad and i know he strikes out a lot. However, i have always argued about being able to be replaced. How many hitters have we had since he left hit 40 homers? NONE! How many hitters have we had drive in 100 runs since he left? One! His numbers have never been replaced and he compiled those numbers hitting 5th, 2nd, and goofing Boone even batted him first a couple of times! Ventura has it right batting him 3rd. He will drive in 100 every year, if you put him there and leave him! I am so happy for him! Don't forget scoring 100 runs as well.

To expand, Dunn has a WAR of 0.9. Ryan Ludwick has a WAR of 0.3. An increase of WAR of 0.6 is not that significant, at least not enough to equate to them being better off win/loss wise. Todd Frazier even has a higher WAR than Dunn (1.0). And just for nkufan23, Chris Heisey's WAR is a miserable -0.8. Stubbs has a WAR of 0.8.

The Reds would be best with Dunn in LF and Frazier at 3B ...Phillips would move to the lead-off spot, Dunn would hit second where he would see lots of pitches being protected by Votto hitting 3rd and Frazier would bat cleanup followed by Bruce... Dunn is close to Votto in terms of Walks despite the K's which would be good to have in front of Votto IMO and Phillips is a much better lead-off hitter than Cozart at this point...Taking his offensive importance one step further, Dunn is No. 1 in the AL at 4.49 pitches viewed per plate appearance, and ranks No. 1 in baseball with 1,164 pitches viewed this season...

Dunn is a .276 hitter in his career batting second with a .388 OBP and that's without ever hitting in front of Votto where it has been proven to inflate guys numbers ala Stubbs...

I said the Reds would not have much different a record (or lead in the Central) with Dunn as they do without him. I was simply referencing Frazier as proof that Dunn's WAR is not very good.

Saying one individuals performance is the difference on a 162 game schedule where 9 or 10 guys start every game and 25 are on the roster every day is laughable.
June 28, 201214 yr Well lets' see. To have kept Dunn they were looking at huge salary. So let's say they did sign him. Can we say this team would be exactly the same today with him in left? Highly doubtful. So no, I doubt they would be in 1st place today.

Which takes me back to my original point, the Reds would be no better record-wise with Dunn in the lineup than they are with who they're rolling with now.
