Out of conference schedule

Featured Replies

Yeah Cal didn't like having it and the Louisville game both on the road in the same year so until they can work it back in its out for a few years.

Shouldn't effect next year though as IU and UL both look to be preseason top 3 teams and they still have SEC/Big East Challenge and Champions Classic every year.

I'm glad he kept IU over UNC. IU is a much bigger rival in my mind.

They are saying Morehead State will visit Rupp next season, probably on Thanksgiving Eve.

I always wanted to have Morehead on the schedule. :D

When does Syracuse go to the ACC?

Not sure that has been set yet. The thought is it will be 2013.

I wished it would have been two years ago. But it is a good payday for our small in state schools like Morehead and EKU.

Haven't seen Jim around lately bemoaning how they weren't prepared for the tournament because of scheduling...Where ya at Jim?

That's not what I said and you know it. Besides, they won. Is that not good enough for Wildcat fans?

I stand by my long-held premise that teams that challenge themselves in the regular season reap the benefits in the postseason. No team is helped by playing a bunch of non-conference softies, unless padding a win total is goal No. 1.

I have to disagree to an extent Jim. Let's say Kentucky had replaced 4 or 5 of the cupcake teams on their schedule with 3 tough road games, and 2 tough home games. Let's say Kentucky had gone 2-3 in those games, and instead of being a #1 seed, were a 3 or 4 seed.

Did you consider UK's non conference schedule this year to be adequate? They did play four of the nation's top teams (KU, IU, UNC, and UL). If not, what would you consider an adequate schedule?

That team plowed through its schedule, beating most opponents by double digits. An extra tough game or two here and there was not going to be the difference in this team winning or losing a national title, and it especially wasn't going to cost this team a No. 1 seed when there was plenty of chances to fatten up the resume against the lowly SEC.

To the bolded, why?

2 big schools that close together. Why not? It would be a good non-conference game for both.

Check mate!!!!!

Thanks Jim. It's about time you saw it our way. We've been trying to convince you that all year. :sssh::lol::lol:

C'mon now, you know that mine is a longstanding criticism of college basketball scheduling (and football, and high school, for that matter). This team was an obvious exception, but it wasn't because they got great challenges in the regular season.

Adequate in terms of results, but not in terms of my philosophy. I am an advocate of "anybody, any time, anywhere."
