I thought it was three young black men in baggy pants, hoodies and flat bill caps walking your way at night.

In the other thread it is skinheads or redneck garb.

Right, but lets face facts, the problem is that in both scenarios that's how punks tend to dress. I realize plenty of good people dress the same and some punks dress nice, but I also realize what I see on the news and how often trouble comes dressed as in the scenarios.
Sadly that constitutes menacing to many...
No, sadly many that are up to no good dress that way so it's near impossible to tell the difference so most people would rather be cautious. Get jumped once and you'll likely change your outlook.

My sister-in-law got mugged about three months ago in Cincinnati while waiting for the bus. Guess how the 2 black males were dressed.

When did young black men become the equivalent of skinheads?

Come on Habib. You're better than that.

I understand the premise of the topic. And for those who are less eager to equate how one is dressed with perceived threat, I tend to lean towards the analogy we used in this forum with pornography not long ago. I know it when I see it.

In 8th grade, I got destroyed by a group of kids wearing baggy jeans and oversized shirts. They jumped my friend and me for no reason, basically out of boredom. They were seniors in high school. A broken nose, and a pistol whipping later, I cross the street when I see anyone dressed like that at night. Those kids were white, in Guru's scenario the kids are black. Either way, if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, I'm going to assume it's a duck and avoid a trip to the hospital or mortuary. If I offend those kids, so be it. I'll make it up to them at a better time.

You acted much more maturely than I ever would have. And right or wrong, I'd have hunted those kids down, and paid back in kind, as sad as that is to say. Individually or collectively. Of course, growing up in the country, the odds of that sort of thing happening were slim to none.

Basically, those kids have weeded themselves out. I know that 2 of them have spent some sort of time in prison. I'll be honest, once I found out that were packing, (and I didn't know it until the police informed us that a group of kids have flashed the gun at someone at the local bowling alley about 30 min. before we were beaten), I wasn't in too much of a hurry to confront them. A broken nose heals, I didn't want to run the risk of getting shot seeking revenge.

I understand. Smart man.

We do not know that Martin attacked Zimmerman.
Exactly, just like we don't know what Zimmerman did. But that hasn't stopped the assumptions that Zimmerman attacked Martin.

When did redneck garb equal menacing?
When did redneck garb equal menacing?

Not my choice of words and did you see my answer in the other thread?

If I'm in an unfamiliar, deserted place at 3 a.m. I'm going to be leery of anyone I see. .
Defintiely agree.

Middle school and high school kids don't get jumped in the country? I grew up in the country...it happens.

I run by people fitting the description in the original post several times a week. Sometimes I'm not always in the "best" part of town. I don't cross the street and have never been bothered.
