White flags all around!!! How does prestiges NCC land a small but stud QB from AZ? Although it may be odd that a FB player from another state (AZ being quite a distance away), what are the odds of him falling into the laps of the GREAT NEWPORT CENTRAL CATHOLIC FOOTBALL POWER HOUSE?!!! They have been such A POWER SINCE 2000 or so and there was no sign of slowing down on all of thier state championships; now there is definitely no sign those championship trophies will stop rolling in any time soon. NewCath football powerhouse since 2000!!!

 

 

 

Mitchell grew up in (southern) Campbell County at least through third or fourth grade maybe longer so he is from this area. Someone made reference to him living with his aunt and uncle so I expect he has family here and they are moving back rather than moving to this area. He was a nice athlete as a kid back then (in football, baseball and basketball) but I haven't seen him since then. Best wishes to him in his return to the area at NCC.

If I'm not mistaken, NCC has the lowest average ACT scores of all of the Catholic schools in NKY? That being said, if they are moving into Fort Thomas and he wants a catholic education, NCC will deliver a great experience to him without a long commute. Good luck to the young man.

On a related note, Any chance of Franzen at QB or are they just going to use his athleticism at various other positions?

From a sportswriter that covered high school sports back in AZ:

 

He was one of the better quarterbacks in the area last year. Should have a pretty good senior season. Not elite, but a good player.

 

If he does play QB at NCC, it will be interesting to see how his success compares to AZ. I lived a handful of miles from Gilbert HS for three years, and the level of play out there is not what it is here, IMO. There's some good schools out there (Chandler Hamilton, Scottsdale Chaparral), but generally what I saw was not on the level of the better NKY or Cinti schools.

 

Funny factoid: at Gilbert HS, most likely he played Highland HS (also of Gilbert).

An 8th grade girl sharing the same last name is to start at HMS after spring break.

 

Highlands isnt for everyone, its an elite school system when it comes to academics and has a pretty decent extracurricular activities program and one had better prepared to be challenged, maybe if this is the same family there could be four words that come to mind as to why the brother didnt choose Highlands.......................Donnovan, McCoy, Drew and Houilston

Likewise take the scores of the kids who went to the Alexandria/Cold Springs catholic schools and compare them with Brossart, Newcath's are higher. Something the Newcath administration doesn't make public in order not to offend those from the Newport, Bellevue, & Dayton catholic grade schools.

You don't have to go to Highlands to eat cake. Just find a way to put SK on Highlands schedule., and they will gladly give you and SK all you want, all it will cost you is a gate ticket , and a bunch of humility.
