He parked under a light, got his equipment out of the car with his press credential around his neck and started to set up when the police officer opened fire. The reporter was injured but is expected to survive. Remarkably he knows the officer and does not want him fired. It said he was setting up his tripod. I'd have to imagine it was far enough away to take pictures. I can't think of a good reason to just start blasting away at someone with no warning. I can't think of a good reason to just start blasting away at someone with no warning. Sure there is. They gave him a gun and a badge and it empowered him to shoot before thinking.
