Region 1 Rankings (1/11/16 Week 6)

Recommended Posts

Remember these rankings will be based on current play and not just the record or one good/bad game. Lot of teams gearing up for the All "A" Classic that starts next week. Here are the rankings as of 1/11/16.

1. Paducah Tilghman (11-4)

The Blue Tornadoes were brought back down to earth in the last 2 weeks having lost 4 out of their last 5 games after starting the season 10-0. Grant it those games have been against some very good competition. They played a great game at Christian County and had the chance to win that game but let it slip away in the final few minutes. In the region however, they are still far and beyond the best team in the region until another team steps up to prove otherwise. Marshall and McCracken have that chance this week.

2. Murray (12-4)

Murray won a closer than expected game against Ballard Memorial and lost to an out of state team. Their play has improved as of late, but still not as consistent as coach Flener would like. They have a chance to go very far in the All “A” Classic if they play to their potential. They also have a game against Calloway Co. this week as well.

3. Graves (10-6)

Graves took back the number 3 position after defeating McCracken County and Mayfield. Chris Vogt is really making improvements in his game as he is averaging a double/double over his last 6 games. He is getting some support as 4 different other players have scored double digits during that game span as well and Ryan Mathis is proving his worth on the court. Their next 4 games will be tough one though as they play home to McCracken Co and Webster Co. and then go to Hopkinsville and Bullitt East. I would consider going 2-2 in those games a success.

4. McCracken County (12-3)

The Mustangs couldn’t hold on to 3rd place as they lost to Graves County. It was a close game and at Graves, but a loss is a loss. It won’t get any easier this week as they have to go to Paducah Tilghman and play the number one team in Region 1. If they can pull off an upset, which they are capable, it would propel them up the standings.

5. Marshall County (10-5)

Won 2 of 3 games this week with the two wins being against Calloway and Fulton. Their loss came to an out of state team. This week they play 2 teams above them in the standings, Paducah Tilghman and Graves County. They have some relief after that by playing Crittenden County. If they win 2 games this week, it would be a smashing success.

6. Carlisle (11-4)

Hard to really read the Comets at this point. They blow out Ballard Memorial @ Ballad by 30 and then almost lose to Hickman County (44-42) at home. We will see how good they really are in the All “A” Classic that is coming up. They have the talent, but will it translate?

7. Ballard Memorial (4-9)

Ballard Memorial finally got in the win column after a horrendous stretch of losing 7 straight games. They defeated St. Mary but got beat in a closer than expected game against Murray. They play Mayfield and then start the All “A” Classic.

8. St. Mary (7-10)

St. Mary lost both their games this week to Paducah Tilghman and Ballard Memorial respectively. They should win both their games this week against Fulton City and Community Christian before starting All “A” Classic play.

9. Calloway County (5-9)

Lost their game to Marshall but defeated Mayfield, both were close games. Play Trigg Co and Murray this week. Could be 2 more losses.

10. Hickman County (5-10)

The Falcons have won 3 of their last 4, only losing to Carlisle by 2 points. They should win their 2 games this week before heading into the All “A” Classic.

11. Fulton County (4-8)

Blew out rival Fulton City but this got blown out by Marshall County. Play McCracken and Carlisle this week.

12. Mayfield (4-9)

Defeated Fulton City but lost to Calloway and Graves Co this week. Play Ballard and Webster Co.

13. Fulton City (7-9)

Record seems to say they should be ranked higher, but their true colors are shining through as they are playing tougher competition.

14. Christian Fellowship (4-11)

Won their rematch against Walden and also defeated Heritage Academy.

15. Community Christian (0-12)

Played their closest game of the year against St. Francis, but still winless on the season.
