Sundance
Looks like Russell Co has a new coach, Billy Carson, who was a seven year assistant at North Laurel. Guess it wasn't so political after all. Russell Co could have had a good basketball team last year even with Kel Stotts leaving with good coaching. Stotts over shadowed other talent on team. They had a good solid junior class with one 6'6" senior. The senior needed personal development with a lot of hard work around the post, which he didn't seem to get. He made little improvement from his junior year. They also lost their 6'2" junior play maker in a young man who was worth 16 to 18 pts per game, He transferred to Galilean Christian Academy two week before Russell Co first game. At Galilean (a talented team with solid 6'5" and 6'6" players) he had two games with over 30 pts and 6 assist. He was selected all tournament player in several tournaments. Galilean won the 2017 KCAA State Tournament and he was selected to All Tournament team and to First Team All Conference. Should this young man return to Russell Co for his senior year with a new coach and with the experienced and talented senior class they should look forward to a very good season. As for Edge, just look at Realreason's posts last year and this year and its not hard to figure out what happened, I think Russell Co realized they had made a mistake early on and didn't want the basketball program to go down a hole that would be hard to get out of, but held out hope for a coach who had a great family that seemed to want to be part of community. I believe parents and staff alike wanted him to succeed, but for him there didn't seem to be room for compromise. Coaches are not only a coach but a leader and motivator that create a positive attitude. When you go to a event and the players and assist coaches all look like they just lost their best friend, something is wrong. High school players should be having fun at this point in their life playing the sport they love.
