This thread has gotten way off topic. What we should be talking about is the fact that Wales is right there with JJ. Depending on what happens in the playoffs these two could finish with very, very similar numbers. As fans of high school football we should appreciate the fact that we have had the opportunity to have the two most productive backs in KY history play at the same time in our state! These guys will finish in the top 25 nationally in rushing yards for a career!!!! That is amazing and we have had the privilage of watching it. WOW!!! I texted JJ's dad with some of the well wishes that everyone on here has posted this year and he said thanks. They are very proud of JJ's football accomplishments but let me tell you the entire family is more proud of him as a young man. I don't pretend to be a close family member and like i've said before I've only seen JJ a few times as he's grown up and talked to his parents occasionally but i've seen that this kid has ALWAYS worked hard. To anyone that has met him they will tell you that he truly is one of the most polite and hard working young men you will ever meet. To RockPride I just want to say congratulations on Trinity's great season. Enjoy it like I am enjoying JJ breaking this record. Your inability to understand the appropriate place to post certain comments has brought on no hard feelings. To all of the Highlands fans that say JJ's run is now over. I just want to say that i am from Lawrence County and i was around when LC took the #4 all time rushing yardage RB and the #2 all time recieving yardage WR on the same team up to Highlands and promptly got our BUTTS WHIPPED!!! Stats are fun, but it takes a complete team to beat Highlands!!!!! That's a lesson i will NEVER forget! With that being said i do believe JC is better than the record shows. Hopefully they can pull off the upset?

I've never watched them play and have no opinion on it. I don't know the soccer coach or this player and have never seem them so I would think that forming an opinion on their level of sportmanship would be a huge mistake. That would be like saying that Dale Mueller was a classless no-good coach because his team scored 70 points in the first half of a game. That would be a fair assumption if you knew nothing other then the scores of some of the Highlands games. Chew on that one for a minute.

After thinking about it more I think you guys might me right. Let me fix it for you. I'll call Matney and tell him next time someone asks you about your kicker missing three qaurters of the game just say "oh, heck he's just a kicker, he ain't really no football player. He really makes no difference to this team." How's that? Would that make you happy?

When did he say something bad about Ashland? When did he say anything disrespectful to anyone? Please explain to me how saying this was disrespectful? I was of the impression that kickers are involved in every kickoff, every field goal, every punt. I don't mind people bashing Matney for some of the classless things he has done, but someone please provide me the quote that has everyone calling him classless this time, because if the one I've listed here is what you all are nagging about then you really have lost some respect from me. Saying that you missed a great player during a key game is not disrespectful to anyone. What did you want him to say? I read the entire article and didn't see him say anything bad about ashland. He said JC's "youth showed" and the great play to keep JJ out of the endzone on the kickoff was "huge". I just don't understand why him tryng to compliment his kicker brought on this kind of hatred and anger. I've heard of sore losers before but sore winners is really hard to understand. You won the game. Your own players said the game plan was to have not one two people key on JJ every play and it worked! GREAT JOB. You earned it, but by golly you better not say your kicker is an important part of your team or we'll call you a classless loser. Some times people amaze me!:confused:

47 yards is less than even the Ashland fans thought. It was a great performance by Ashland and they have earned the Win and the District Championship. Congratulations!

Let me start by saying that I am obviously biased toward JJ breaking the record, but let's look at the facts. Johnson Central has Ashland, Belfry, a first round playoff game against ????? and if they win that then most likely Highlands. I may not have that straight but that seems like it's right???:idunno:??? So at least three of those games are against good if not VERY good defenses and while i want JC to finally beat Highlands we all know that is a mountain that most mountain teams haven't been able to climb. I'm optimistic that this is the year, but not arrogantly confident. My point here is that while JJ will most likely break the all-time rushing record in the next two weeks, it seems extremely likely that Wales will face some less potent defenses for the next couple weeks and during the playoffs and could very possibly make a deeper playoff run. To me this means that while I wish JJ the best of luck breaking this record I also understand that Wales has worked hard and earned the opportunity to not only break the current record but possibly pull ahead of whatever number JJ finishes with. From what i've been told Mr. Wales is an incredibly talented and very nice young man who really has worked hard to help his team win and subsequently have a shot at this individual accomplishment. So my question to everyone out there in BGP land is "Will Wales finish with the record"? Does anyone have the stats on yards per carry and yards per game for these two players? Let's please not turn this into another coach bashing thread.......

As a devoted Lawrence County fan I'd just like to say that if we have to lose at least it was to one of the best coaches to ever coach in Eastern KY! Congratulations to Coach Haywood! LC fans have always had the utmost respect for Belfry and their incredible coach. :thumb: This LC team is going to be tough come playoff time, but I just don't know if anyone in 3A could have beaten Belfry Friday?

Let me clarify that I did read the Highlands thread and I honestly believe that the Highlands coaching staff did everything short of put blindfolds on the players to stop from running up the score in the second half. I would hate to invoke the wrath of the bird faithful by insinuating that they actually did anything wrong, i was just using the point spread as an example.

Let me get this straight. He takes a knee so he can run the stats up for one player, but only lets him have three carries for the next quarter, while his freshman running back gets the carries and scores on a long run play, and his mostly freshman special teams gives up a kickoff for a touchdown. This is during the same week that Highlands hangs 70+ on a team and I haven't heard a peep about that. If he did it just to let JJ run up his stats then not only is he classless, but he's an not very smart because he went through all that trouble and forgot to give him all the carries. I have never spoken to Coach Matney and honestly have never even spoken with JJ or his dad about coack Matney other than one time. I have a friend that told me two stories about Matney that show both sides of the man. The first was about him gathering his team together after practice one day because he was told about a player being verbally direspectful to a girl at school. From what I was told Matney RIPPED into the players explaining that he would not tolerate disrespectful young men playing for him and that if they were disrespecful it would reflect on him, the other coaches and the community. Great example of class. The second story was about him getting on the radio and saying that if Paintsville was going to insist that they continue to play the apple bowl game every year that he would run the score up on them as much as he could so the local kids would know where the better program was. Great example of no class! In my opinion Matney definitely deserves his share of criticism for some things he has done (like the woodford game), but this is not one of them. Sometimes people are so eager to be critical that they miss the facts.... The facts are this. Noone knows why he took a knee and it really doesn't make sense but the three carries for Jude after the fact make it VERY obvious that his stats were not the reason. Mine is just one of many opinions though?

I seem to recall someone on this site saying that these teams should be ranked about equally. I think he may have been a little overzealous in pushing that point but I will be the first to say that according to the score Russell did make it a close game. I'm really curious to see if after 6 turnovers and the manner in which they scored do you still think they they should be ranked right behind Rock. Yes I know the score shows that they should but do you think these teams were really as close as this score shows?? :popcorn: If anyone was to accuse me of stirring the pot you would be absolutely correct! :popcorn:

I wanted to apologize for not showing up at the game to meet everyone Friday. Apparently someone decided that they needed the tools in my garage more than I did. I found out when i got home friday that a large portion of my tools were stolen and I just didn't have football on my mind. I'm sorry to have missed the chance to meet everyone. If by any chance anyone sees two compound miter saws (one still in the box), a Dewalt hammer drill with case and a complete set of Craftsman hand tools at a yard sale or flea market please let me know! Once again I really hate that I missed the game and the chance to meet all of you great Raceland fans! At least my bulldogs won the game and it sounds like it was a GREAT one.

As of now i'm still in Beckley. If i get there in time i'll be out in front of the gate talking to the guys before the game. If i get there late i'll walk over to the Raceland side at the start of halftime. I'll be wearing the black and red jacket (like everyone else) and a black and red kyle busch hat. I am a harvick fan but my son bought the hat for me so i will wear it. I'm about 6'2" 270 lbs with a mustache (yes i still sport the stache)and 37 years old. I shouldn't be that hard to find.

I would like to tailgate before the game or at least get there in time to talk to all the guys from the final 4 team (I didn't play that year), but as of now i'm working in Beckley WV and i'm not sure what time i'll be getting there Friday night. I hope the Rams can show everyone that the defense really is better than they showed last week, but they should wait till next week to show everyone. Sorry, couldn't resist that one...

I love when these teams play! Everyone can get caught up in the record or they can look at it for what it really is. Two teams that always play hard against each other. Two teams that have pride in their programs even when things are tough. Two coaching staffs that pour their heart and soul into making young men out of young boys. Two teams that play physical and all out for 4 quarters. Two teams that have talent but need to catch a couple breaks. Two sets of fans that will follow and cheer for their teams even when they aren't winning. Two teams that deserve to win a game when only one team can walk away the victor. I LOVE THIS GAME!!!! I'll see you guys there Friday Night!

I am a loyal and true lawrence county fan, but i'm also very realistic. I will be pulling for my team from start to finish but I have to say that unless LC plays at their best this week it will be a long ride home. We've got more talent than most people realize and we've definitely got the coaching but injuries and young players have made this team take a little time to really gel together. They just haven't played up to their potential yet and it's sad because it's not from a lack of effort. They are playing hard and fighting for every yard. You all know what I mean. Sometimes it just takes time to come together. They just haven't been consistent defensively or offensively. Hopefully come time for district play we'll start clicking? Sometimes as a fan you also just have to give the other team props. Perry is a really good team this year. They would be a tough opponent if LC was playing at their best. So if we aren't playing at our best they will expose every weakness we have.

My wife and I are very sorry to hear about your loss. We will be praying for the Cooper family and friends in this tough time.

I don't think people realize that Ashland is a really good team this year. This loss doesn't do anything to change the fact that Raceland is a good team, but they just aren't at the level of Ashland this year. With Johnson Central losing to PCC it looks like Ashland may have a good shot at beating them and winning that district? Maybe? Raceland will use this to motivate themselves to get better. When you play a team that beats you like this your weaknesses are pointed out and you really can make adjustments that will help come playoff time.

I have found over the years that arguing with Ram or Guru is a great way to show how ignorant you really are, but i'm going to show my ignorance again! I disagree with you Ram. I think Lawrence County and Raceland are on about the same level and I watched Ashland really beat up my dawgs. That game wasn't as close as the 20 point score seemed to indicate. It stayed that close because LC has allot of heart but talent wise Ashland is a really good team this year. With that being said I think Raceland will not be able to stop Ashlands running game. Ashland will win this game by 4 TD's or more in my very humble and usually incorrect opinion. I hope not because I have always respected Raceland team and fans. I just don't think this is one of those times that heart beats out talent.

Just got back from the game and I have to say that Ashland looked good. The line executed as well as can be expected this early in the season. My Bulldogs definitely are not the same team with the injuries they have had. The dogs really seemed to put allot of heart into this one but just didn't execute as well as the Cats tonight. #4 for Ashland was really allot better than i had heard. He ran hard and broke allot of tackles tonight. not the fastest guy in the world but has decent size and speed. He will do well this year. The ashland line #71, 74 and 80 played well. I was really impressed with #80 playing with an obvious injury to his arm and what seemed to be leg cramps late in the game. LC has some good things to build on even with what was a lopsided game. They seemed to be able to put together some decent runs and a couple little drives when things where still close. The second half stats for LC will be a little misleading because i felt like Ashland pulled their starters before LC did. The dogs QB is going to have a great year based on what i saw tonight. He can really run and throw the ball. An interesting thing happened tonight! LC kicked a field goal!!!! Haven't seen that very often in Bulldog country...
