Rockcastle County 29 Russell County 27 (OT)

Featured Replies

Final from Mount Vernon.

Rockcastle had 6 turnovers tonight (I said 7 in the update thread so sorry for the mistake).

Rockets improver to 7-0 overall and 1-0 in the district.

Lakers fall to 6-1 overall and 0-1 in the district.

What a game...wish I would have went now. Rockcastle scored first in overtime and converted the 2pt. conversion. Russell County scored on the third play in their OT possession and the 2pt. conversion pass was incomplete.

Sounds like a great game. Congrats to Rockcastle County and keep building to Russell County.

The 4A playoffs are going to be a whole lot of fun.

I'm whipped after this game. I had heard there was seven turnovers myself. Any way about it, Russell was about +5 in the turnover department, but, Rockcastle's defense held for most of the night. One score by Russell was a scoop and score on a fumble, one was a very short field on a fumble and one was like a 75 yard swing pass with some blocking out front. The final score was in overtime on a reverse.

Really Good win for the Rock. Conj, to the Team. Papagrit, I know you are in Hog Heaven right about now. Good Luck rest of the way.

Omit a couple of plays from each side and the Rock dominated the contest.

But......"that's why they play the game".

Both teams overcame adversity more than once. Two quality programs.

I seem to recall someone on this site saying that these teams should be ranked about equally. I think he may have been a little overzealous in pushing that point but I will be the first to say that according to the score Russell did make it a close game. I'm really curious to see if after 6 turnovers and the manner in which they scored do you still think they they should be ranked right behind Rock. Yes I know the score shows that they should but do you think these teams were really as close as this score shows??

If anyone was to accuse me of stirring the pot you would be absolutely correct!:p

Sounds like there were some great games in the area last night and I wish I could gave been at all of them. Congrats to the Rock and good luck the rest if the way! Papagrit keep feeding your boy a double helping at each meal. LoL!

Very impressive win for Rock. If you had told me that Rock would lose 4 fumbles and Clark Rowe was not playing I would have predicted a loss. I was surprised Rock could drive the field and Russell could not. The Britt kid looked like he would be fast if he got loose but he needs to get in the weight room. The difference in the game was Russell County had no running game at all and Rock could methodically move the ball down the field even without Rowe. I hope they get to play again when everyone is healthy because that will mean they are doing well in playoffs. Good luck to both teams.

Congratulations to Rock. I too was surprised by Russell Countys lack of a running game. I had been led to believe otherwise. Fun game to watch . Just shows you can totally dominate a game and its possible to hand it away with turnovers. Russell was close to winning although they were probably outgained 4 to 1. I thought BB Bradley game Rock a tremendous lift on both sides of the ball when turnovers had them beat down mentally. Hopefully Rowe will be able to return for the Knox Central game they are certainly going to need him to have a legitimate shot. Russell has lots of younger players and is just going to get better and better. The lakers just ran into a mismatch on the line of scrimmage!

Go ahead and find ways to put Russell co. down.I never once said that Russell County was a better team and never, not ever, put Rock down in any shape or form. My argument, and I still stand by that argument, was that at that point in time considering all the facts, was that Russell should have been ranked. Wow, can't believe all the negativity toward Russell. Yes, I was at the game and Rocks line was OUTSTANDING, but Russell had a chance to win at the end of regulation. And what's up with"manner in which they score"? Did the Rocks first score not come off a fumble recovery and a short field? Yes, I was at the game and the final score was 29-27 in overtime of an away game where Russell scored 27 points on a team that had just given up 43 points all year. You can continue to belittle Russell County all you wish but turnovers don't just occur out of thin air. Russell's defense had at least a little in your eyes, but a lot in mine , in creating these these turnovers and yes that contributed to the score as it was. Even with a 2pt O.T. "away" loss to a ranked team your bias against the play and outcome or Russell County is unreal. This was a fantastic game to watch worthy of all the hype. Great play by all the players. Rock is a wonderful team with a dominating line. Congradulations Rockets, loved watching your team and deserving of all the praise. If we can't win state, hope you guys or someone in our district does. GREAT GAME AND WIN

Jude, you know that The Rock has a great home field advantage especially against a sophomore and junior laden team. I think Rock is a little better but Russell is just behind them. I think they deserve to be ranked and believe that this loss will be good for Russell.

One thing I do know. If I never see the substitute ref from Bowling Green that filled in on that crew last night it will be soon enough for me.

I have and also had all the respect in the world for Russell County. Heck of a team and YES....they did force those fumbles to get into those situations to score. That is what I meant by the post about the turnovers. The Rock boys have to learn to protect that ball when getting gang tackled. A hard lesson learned and lucky thing that they won. The seniors especially on defense dug in hard at the end. I'm proud of them and I hope that Russell goes deep into the playoffs as well.

I am officially saying ROCK is back. Good for you guys papagrit!

Appreciate it TM! It's surely been more fun than the last two years. Those boys are going to have to learn to hang on to the ball better in the future.
