  1. I'm guessing this question was posed tongue in cheek given that this was "OC QB's" (Oldham County quaterback) very first post. If it was a serious inquiry then I'll go out on a limb and say, "NO", the case can't made that these two unknowns are two of the best in the state.
  2. WKU saw Matt several times. He attended their fall camp this year and I believe he may have attended a camp in 08 as well. They saw him over the summer playing for KBC at tournament hosted by the Dirtbags at WKU. I think they saw him playing for KBC in Ft. Meyers this fall also. It is my understanding he will be dual player--OF and P.
  3. I'm a little late on this thread...but KRS 411.190 says the state has absolutely NO liability to this unfortunate soul or his family. It has nothing to do with his nationality, the sign or his ability to read it. The Recreational Use Statute basically says if a landowner opens his property to the public for recreational use and does NOT charge a fee there is no liability for ordinary negligence.
  4. Matt Spalding St. Xavier 2011 commits to Western Kentucky University. Spalding was one of the first freshmen in almost 15 years to letter in varsity baseball at St. X. He was selected as one of several 7th region sophomores last year to attend the inaugural KY Sophomore Showcase. He was Academic All-State and inducted into the National Honor Society. Spalding had a strong summer season with the Kentucky Baseball Club. The fall proved to be even better with an excellent showing at the Perfect Game Southeast Underclass Showcase. He also helped the underclass KBC team to tie for the lead in their pool in the WWBA Underclass Championships in Ft. Myers, FL, this past October. Spalding was on the mound helping KBC to a win over the Florida Diamond Pros with a 90 mph fastball. He is currently ranked 305th nationally in the class of 2011 by Perfect Game. Western Kentucky University was ranked #23 last year in the final Top 25 Poll according to College Baseball and has recorded back-to-back NCAA Regional Tournament appearances. WKU won 40 baseball games last year and earned a share of the Sun Belt Conference Regular Season Championship. Western Kentucky University is located in Bowling Green, KY, and is the northern most college in the Sun Belt Conference. The Sun Belt Conference has a strong RPI ranking--ahead of the Big East and Big Ten. WKU had 6 players drafted in the MLB draft last year with Wade Gaynor leading the way in the third round. WKU has put $2.2 million dollars of enhancements in their field since 2002. A new $1 million dollar baseball clubhouse and office facility is under construction and should be completed by the start of this coming season.
  5. Great win for Ballard, congrats! I don't think the "Xaverians" believe there is any "issue" with juniors playing JV. Typically this comes up in the X/T JV discussion. As a Xaverian, I don't care if juniors play...but it is worth mentioning in the X/T JV discussion if one team plays predominantly plays juniors who are for the most part 2nd team varsity versus a team that is predominantly sophmore non-varsity players. It should be mentioned not as a criticism of the team playing juniors but as a "truth in winning" disclosure. I know last year X played quite a few juniors in the JV contest vs. T and this year several have played JV as well. I suspect X's QB in the JV game vs. Ballard was either jr. Jay Hayden or Luke Brohm but I don't know for sure. I'm all for getting kids playing time and getting them better for varsity competiton on Friday nights.
  6. It will be interesting to see X's play calling in this game. Will they hand it off 50 times to insure a 4 or 5 TD win or will they let Brohm throw it some to get him ready for a game down the road when they might need him to put the ball up in the air more (Glaser may rightly believe they can beat anyone without an effective passing attack until they rematch with the Rocks in the finals)? My guess is that X won't throw anything downfield until the outcome is no longer in doubt.
  7. Hope that's true and hope if he does come back he's 100%.
  8. Many X fans thought it showed little class to try and score instead of taking a knee. Maybe X coaches were looking to even up the score from the beating the Brohm led JV team took from Manual's JV's(21-7), 2 int's and a fumble.
  9. The following is a write up from Perfect Game's blog on one of KBC's games at Ft. Meyers: "KY BB Club Clips Diamond Pros 10/9/2009 4:07:52 PM Kentucky Baseball Club pushed across a run in the 7th to get past the Florida Diamond Pros 3-2. Matt Spalding (2011 Louisville, KY) was very impressive with a 90 mph fastball and consitently threw strikes. He struck out seven batters in 6 innings of work. Andrew Willinger closed out the victory with a 82-84 mph fastball in one inning of scoreless baseball. 2011 Travis Murray (Lexington, KY) went 2-3 with a 2b and a stolen base. He showed good pop and runs well. Will Hurt (2012, Lexington, KY) looked good in the infield and showed a nice approach at the plate. Matt Salom (2011, Miramar, FL) pitched in the mid 80's for FL Diamond Pros in one inning of work. Mario Amaral (2011, Miramar, FL) went 2-3 with a triple and made hard contact each time with the bat."
  10. At kickoff, UL/Pitt may have couple thousand more....in the fourth quater X/T will have several thousand more.
  11. X looked very solid in all facets....Buehner is truly a threat on the on the ground and with his arm. X's stable of Neal, Montano, McMurray and Hayden has to be the deeepest backfield in the state. Some concern at the backup QB spot if BB gets hurt...what happened to Loehnert who started as a Frosh and JV? I thought he was probably the best pure drop back passer in the 2011 class in the city...and he's now a WR?
  12. John Davis will prove to be too much for the Dawgs--Eastern by a TD.
  13. Voice, You say we have "enough of a problem with transfers without making it easier"... What exactly is the problem with transfers we have right now? Not every school district has residency boundaries.
  14. Regardless of whether he's 18 or not, the issue is whether he alone (or his entire family for that matter) move for legitimate reasons or whether the move in part is motivated to play for another school. Seems there would be many variables for the KHSAA to look at...1. Was there a change for better or worse in the family's finances that prompted the move, ie downsizing or upsizing home(point for no penalty)2. Change in jobs of Mom or Dad that prompted the move, ie getting closer to work(point for being bona fide) 3. Change in family size, addding or substracting kids or other dependents, that prompted the move(point for being bona fide) 4. Factors 1 thru 3 are not present and the kid is really good playing in a weak program and wants to transfer to a stronger program because he's "dissatisfied" where he's at(point for not being a bona fide change of residence. 5. Factors 1 thru 3 are not present, family is not moving but junior wants to live with "Uncle Bob" his senior year and attend a school that has a better program(point for not being bona fide). Obviously a lot of gray area and wiggle room in trying to deterime what someone's intent or true motivation is in moving....which is why I would prefer they abolish the sit out penalty and give kids one chance to transfer without penalty for any reason without any questions being asked.
  15. By definition the move would not be "legitimate" (or a "bona fide" change of residence under KHSAA rules) if it was prompted by the student being "dissatisfied with the baseball program at Dayton." That's not to say the KHSAA would acutally follow their own rules and impose the year sit out penalty....sometimes they do and sometimes they don't.
  16. He should be included because he's still one of top 50 players in the state...more guys on this list will be injured throughout the year but that shouldn't mean they get scratched off the list.
  17. Manual had a very strong Frosh team last year....it may take awhile for this group of sophmores to mature and get better.
  18. This list is a joke...Bryan Hynes(on the list) of Fern Creek is currently the second string QB on his team. DeMarcus Smith of Seneca is a national QB recruit and not mentioned. Daylen Hall of ST.X also was not listed and he may be the fastest DB in the state and will play D1.
  19. Fidanza is a terrific catcher and if he continues to hit the ball hard from the left side he will be very successful in college. Congrats!
  20. Littrell is very good and will be drafted. I'm hearing this summer that his fastball sits in the 85-88 range but when he wants to he can get it in the low 90's. His off speed stuff is what makes him so tough.
