I do not really see anything here about the increase in violent gang activity. The economic/social factors of crime are understood. And I know that makes certain parts of Louisville much rougher than others. But the violence and killing is not geographically limited to poorer and racially segregated parts of Louisville. It's drive-bys and shoot-outs in front of Methodists churches on Hikes Lane. Or when a father and son is kidnapped in one part of town that is not poor and murdered in planned execution style later in the day. This is not social/economic crime. This is not even illegal trafficking turf battles that plague the disadvantage communities. This is a different landscape. Something from outside has come into the environment and changed to dynamic. My mother finally felt the need to move after 59 years in the same house. We are waiting on her new home in a 55 and over community in Wilmore to finish. She will still hear occasional gunshots like she did in Louisville. But I told her its normal around here since its close to hunting season.
