  1. If you live in Ft Mitchell, it's paid for through your R/E taxes or rent. Why wouldn't you put you kid in that environment? My mom went to Holmes; she's no dummy. It all starts in the home.
  2. BHS tuition for out of district is about $6,000. Depending on whether or not the county you live in releases a portion of the real estate tax dollars to BHS, the out of pocket tuition could be about $3,000 (at the lowest). Out of district kids must take an entrance exam AND have good grades to get in. Now, to get a little off topic because this is not going to be a sports rant. But for $3,000 of tuition, that gets you into one of the better schools in Kentucky at about 1/2 the cost of a private school. For a small school it offers a lot of opportunities. In fact it offers Latin in the 8th grade (I didn't take latin until my frosh year at a private school). It produces as many merit scholars as the private schools, and posts some of the best ACT scores, on average, in the state. For what it' s worth... the school was one of the best HS's in the country according to US News. Parents do not send their kids to BHS to get an athletic scholarship, it's a small school and not really on the radar of colleges looking for athletes. But they do send their kids there to get a good education. For that, I don't think they should get much criticism.
  3. Hey Coach, I have Mickey Mouse poncho (authentic Disney) you can use.
  4. Congrats Mr. Farris. Welcome.... make UK your home for 4 -5 years, get a great education, play great baseball!!! Move on to the next level.
  5. You are correct, James can dominate IF he keeps his cool, He throws hard, but if he can trade 5mph for 5 degrees of cooler composure then watch out. I like what I saw in AJ Smith last year for the Beechies as a soph. He has a tall (6-6) frame and is lanky. Nothing but knees and elbows coming at the batter. My guess is that he throws mid to upper 80's this year with a long delivery... could be very deceptive to batters. Also heard that the Beechies are getting a soph transfer moving in from Indiana that can eat up a few innings. They also have a frosh, J Bertke, that threw some last year as an 8th grader. Ryle has a couple of good hurlers at the junior level as well that I saw in summer ball. Should be another great season.
  6. Anderson frosh beat the Beechies frosh by 2 scores. Well desreved win by Anderson, no cake walk though.
  7. Welcome to NKY... the tide is constantly turning. GEAUX you TIGERS!!! How does this school stay at 1A??
  8. Basically you nailed my underlying concern with regard to the type of defensive scheme played (zone, M on M, etc), but I guess kids would be looking for are both M on M and zone coverage (at least they would know what is expected of them under that defensive scheme, whatever it is). HS programs, in NKY for the most part, do not seem to pass that much.... but when they do, the DB's do not seem prepared. If someone can send me an email (pm)of who would be good as an instructor, and detailed information... it would be much appreciated.
  9. Where are the best DB training camps for HS kids? Is there anybody out there that does individual DB training for HS DB's?
  10. The MAC has turned out some very good QB's as a result... keeps both the offense and defense on their toes (and heels ha,ha).
  11. Illinois appears to be no cupcake at 8-3, but, as you stated, they sure did look like a great team today... spread offense in the big ten... what's up with that? Not to be a smart "butt"; however, the SEC style Illinois seems to have learned something... as in how to beat the big ten powers (at least for today).
  12. Is Illinois that good? I have not seen them all year....
  13. WOW, what a day. Cats won, shake up in the big 10, and my kid gets his first Buck (but not as is in Buckeye)
  14. OSU lost to Illinois. Who is this Illinois team, are they the cream of the BIG 10 crop?
  15. Pay attention to the needs of different kids. Pick a school that has the requirements that you think is best for your child.
  16. Agree... to a certain extent. But, I want my kids to be surrounded by smart kids. So when I see Highlands (added for content) and Beechwood scoring at the top of the state as far as CAT grades and ACT scores go, and if my kid is not a doogie houser..( brain child if you remember the series and should go to Latin) but can get A's at the top schools... then I want them at a school that accomadates them. In short, I will choose to surround my kid with a small group of (smart) kids. In fact, Beechwood had as many (4) merit scholars as Latin School did this year.
  17. Watching this ... And why wouldn't send your kid to Beechwood? There are a few, if any, alternatves to a school the size (AND EDUCATION LEVEL) in Boone as compared to Beechwood. Just my opinion.
  18. Who cares? Woodson is the real deal. He will play pro. He will make more money than all BGP posters online at any time... combined. Good for him. he earned it... so move on. However, I watched the QB from Boston last night do some magic last night... so who knows who is the best QB. It's a never ending battle. Kids have different games on different days. Your opinion does not matter.
  19. Hard to compare a MAC team (isn't Akron a MAC team) against an SEC team. Very different look. Would love to see OSU play UK. Honestly, I do not know who would win... but what "a giant leap" for UK football. Kind of like OSU had some giant leaps in NCAA basketball in recent years... so I know you OSU fans know what it's like to be in this "state of mind".
  20. B-U-L-L-D-O-G-S, Bulldogs (clap, clap) Bulldogs!!! The DOGS find a way to win the "world's largest cocktail party," I mean the game. Too bad it's not being played down b'tween the hedges... this year with all the ups-and-downs, I would give the Gators points if that was the venue.
  21. Agreed.... the Birds have some talent moving up. In fact Dixie has a lot of talent moving up as well. A lot of the DHS talent has been moving up through select baseball. I have seen the Birds talent move up through a very good knothole team. Should be interesting in the next few years as we watch the wave of select team players (starting from kids that are now soph's on up) begin to fill the high school rosters.
