Pre-season 9th Region Baseball
Agreed.... the Birds have some talent moving up. In fact Dixie has a lot of talent moving up as well. A lot of the DHS talent has been moving up through select baseball. I have seen the Birds talent move up through a very good knothole team. Should be interesting in the next few years as we watch the wave of select team players (starting from kids that are now soph's on up) begin to fill the high school rosters.

Pre-season 9th Region Baseball
Frankly, as dumb as this may sound (or read), with the limited amount of time coaches have to look at kids and decifer talent, it's an advantage for a coach with a team of 15 good players as opposed to one with 45 good players to choose from... but, it sure would be nice to line up 45 versus 15 kids to see if you could find a pitcher or two. In most instances, I just don't think that there is a whole lot of difference between a Sr or Jr in high school. About the only thing that I see making a noticable difference in talent are the kids that play in a more advanced league of ball during the summer, and I can't tell if the kids are playing up or playing down in their age bracket. IMO, there are a lot of exceptions out there, whether it's age or size, and you need to look for it. The comment about the talent pool, well taken, but your GUESS is as good as mine.

NKY Freshman Football
Being a small school, Beechwood has to come out with 11 studs each year. How else could they compete with schools 5X thier size?? But, the beechies do have some quality specialty players... too bad they lost to NCC twice.

Beechwood/Bellevue predictions
I'm sorry, but if the black and gold tigers want to run with the red and white tigers, they need to be able to "wet" in the tall grass...... (you know... and not get any on their leg). Beechies by... untill they feel that they are not supposed to score anymore. Hey, JMO.

Pre-season 9th Region Baseball
Not so much the 9th , but as far as NKY goes.. 1) CCH / BHS another Park Hills/Ft. Mitchell battle this year (gotta love 1A in the same breath as a 5A) Wow, your pick. Beechies have a lot of talent coming to fruition. Coaching... I got to say is even. 2) Dixie: The real deal in 2 years. They have some good talent coming up..... again, they have some good talent COMING UP. 3) Ryle: happy days are gone again... sorry to split your talent pool up.. next year. However, this year, can the cream rise to the top??????????

NKY Freshman Football
Beechies come out after the half with a new look at the QB and RB positions. BHS marches down the field with an air attack that takes the nine lives out of the Cats. In short, the Beechies score 21 points in the 3rd to allow the 2nd team to finish it off in the 4th. Newport, lacking a 2nd team, scores with 1 minute left in the game against the Beechies #2 on the depth chart. Looks like the Beechies are brewing something nasty for Halloween. After all, these frosh have some big shoes to fill next year, so for them, hopefully the spell lasts a few years.

QUIET for the serve
I happened to catch wind of the BHS / NDA v-ball match were the ref had threatened to remove the BHS fans (kids supporting their fellow classmates) from the gym. Now, I don't know the rules of V-ball but I didn't think that it was similar to a golf match whereas a fan needed to be quiet at all times during the tee shot. Anyway, why the ref thought that it was so important is beyond me, but I would love to know, otherwise... I wish they would focus more on the game versus controlling the crowd. If you want to contol the crowd, join the police dept.

NKY Freshman Football
NCC 20 BHS 7 7 to 7 at the half. BHS flat coming out at the half, NCC making the best of that. Congrats to NCC, that it is the second time they beat the Beechies. Both teams have a few+ good position players, but to be consistant with my prior post, I don't think these schools compete with some of the big schools week in and week out at the frosh level. Now, if you would combine the likes of BHS and NCC, then I think they run the table in NKY in any given year. But!!!!! On their own merit, how these schools get it done at the varsity level (competing with the biggins) is beyond my limited knowledge.

NKY Freshman Football
Thumping Beechwood isn't beating 5A schools. I don't know the reason why NCC doesn't play 5A schools, I only know it takes two coaches to schedule a game... so which one isn't following through? The 5A schools have such a large number of kids to choose from, maybe it's hard to know what talent small schools will get year in and year out. However, after the frosh level, some small schools are very competitive at the varsity level, but working with a roster of 20 to 25 kids at the frosh level, I think it would be hard to compete every year. Just my opinion, and I have seen NCC, CCH, HHS and DHS frosh teams play this year.

NKY Freshman Football
Word is... they gotta play the Beechies again. Lets see if they can get by the little class A school again before they start thinking about 5A powers. Congrats to the program, but at the frosh level, you don't have much room to make up the numbers.

Dayton at Lloyd predictions
I have Lloyd by 10 between the lines. To the stuff outside the lines: Regardless of the coaching situation, which may not be an issue (if it ever was for the kids) after the win over Newport and if that happens to start a winning trend... just let it go. Lloyd has a group of talented kids, let them enjoy their time on the field, no matter who is coaching them. I give zero points outside the lines. Lloyd by 10.

None the less, the post was about finding competition in NKY. Fan, or no fan was not the subject of my post, and most importantly it was not a decoy or intended to strike a nerve. Why you feel you must post on his (einstein) behalf puzzles me... I assume he can still type. My post stands as printed, just an opinion, like it or leave it.

Fall Ball
OK, so who cares that the coaches are involved from whatever distance. What I want to know is what is expected by the coaches from a player during fall ball. It's a much more relaxed atmosphere. Are they trying new positions, new pitches, or a sun tan?

Wow, what a short memory... I guess the stink after having your noses rubbed in the "bird doo" by CCH last year has "flown away". Not a CCH fan, just don't like short memories. I love what the HHS program does, but nothing lasts forever, no matter who you are. Everybody, and I mean everybody loves to see the giant go down.

Beechwood vs Brossart @ Newport
Hey Stangs players and fans: Yes, you are going to get beat by the Beechies. But you are the pioneers of your school's football program and that is something the be proud of. I know a lot of people who played for the Beechies way back when playing for the Beechies was not cool (to take a line from a country music song) but hard work, dedication, and great coaching has paid off for them. By your efforts (and frustrations) you will create an avenue for others to attend BB instead of other area schools to continue the program. Before long, just like BHS, NewCath and Holy Cross, you will be a competitor in 1A (or 2A in the future) and expected to beat the 5A schools in the area. Good luck to you guys and don't ever give up!!:thumb:

NKY Freshman Football
I heard a lot about stud QB's at the frosh level, even one moving from HHS to CCH. But, after watching the Lloyd and Beechwood game last Thursaday, the Beechies have got themselves the real deal at QB. If this kid is 6 foot, then he's 6-2", and has all the tools, not to mention that he has a good number of kids to distribute the ball to. Who do the Beechies play next week and where?... watcing this kid QB was fun or not so fun as Lloyd fan... before you designate a frosh QB the "up-and-coming", check this kid out.

Newport Central Catholic at Ryle Predictions
I'm going to take NCC using the same math I used to pick NCC over CCH. If Ryle is a 6A school, then I will take NCC by 4 (6A-2A=4). It is very confusing how these small schools keep getting it done. What's the deal?

Highlands 24 Trotwood Madison 20
Great job Birds!!! As you guys move on to the next level remember that the SEC is the best football (and pretty much everything else) conference, and UK is about 90 miles south of HHS. (I am not a coach, just an alumni) Big Ten... who?

Dayton at Beechwood predictions
How conditioned are the Devils? BHS must be in very good shape to still have gas in the tank in the 4th qtr against DHS. For what my opinion is worth, I don't give a lot of credit beating Holmes and Scott, whether it's in the 1st qtr or the 4th qtr.
