Agree but the politics are a joke so despite having a great season, it will go to the kid playing against JV (no , let's make that freshman) level competition for the majority of the season.

Congrats to Male. They hit all the shots when they needed to. Trinity did not play as well at the end of the game as they have all year and it cost them tonight.

Who knows what this next week will bring but I would say that Trinity and Ballard have differentiated themselves as the class of the 7th this season. This doesn't mean that they couldn't get knocked off as earlier posters have mentioned the quality of the teams in the region. Put these two in most other regions and I think they have a great shot to meet in the finals.

As I have said for the umpteenth time, this means that Mr. Basketball is nothing more than the state tourney MVP and I just don't think that is correct(e.g. Jon Hood)

Agree ptb but just like Trinity always struggles against Ballard, Eastern has seemed to pose the same problem for Ballard in recent years so I agree, not a great draw for Ballard.

Rico is a great player but has flown under the radar this season. As I stated in another post, if you simply want to recognize the MVP of the Sweet Sixteen as Mr. Basketball then I agree with you guys. IF you want to reward a whole season of work, none of the others have done or IMO can do enough in the games left to outshine what Sewell has accomplished this season.

Believe as you wish but the award is a joke if Sewell doesn't win it. Even in tonight's loss, he scores 26 against BALLARD. That's not East Ridge- that's Ballard. Justice plays in the 7th, he's in a crowd behind Sewell with T. Jackson, K. Jones and others. Good player, but not as good this season as Sewell!

Jtown beats Eastern, Ballard over Trinity, Male over Manual. ptb is right, the first round of the region will have some ridiculously good teams going at it!

Can't agree on this one. The race isn't even close after the first two! 1-Sewell 2- Justice 3- everybody else- none of the other guys you mentioned have shown near the consistency that Sewell has so unless you want to give it a player who has a 4-5 game run at the end, I can't agree with you. I would say that Chad has been the best of the group but the others have gone through stretches where they really haven't done that much. Granted, they play on teams with a lot of talent but none have stood out. With your logic, just give it to the MVP of state and forget the rest of the season:idunno:

Seneca kids really played hard tonight. No quit and they represented well!!

This game was an absolute war! Reminded me of a mini version of a big East game. Refs let them play and Trinity made a third quarter run to put it away. Seneca fought back cutting lead to 6 then Trinity opened it up at the end. Sewell with 25, Epley also came up big tonight with 18. Corbett played well despite getting sick in 1st half but handled press without any turnovers for Trinity. Nice win. Next up Ballard! It doesn't get any easier!

From what I heard, neither team could hold a lead!

His downfall should not be that he plays for a small school rather that his small school did not go and play enough good teams to highlight him. Of your 9 reasons, Sewell would have easily accomplished 7, I'm not sure about the grades or steals! EJ had one good game against a top ranked team in Jtown, struggled against another decent team in Desales, and the rest of his numbers were put up mostly against teams that would rank in the bottom half of the state. If Sewell had played in the 15th he'd have gone for 40 a night! That's the problem is that nobody knows what EJ would have done playing the schedule Sewell, C Jackson, or Rico Johnson played. As I continue to post, his coach screwed up, not the kid, because he didn't travel and play teams that highlight EJ. And don't tell me they couldn't because Elliott did last year!

I just don't think that the regionn/state tourney are where you crown the Mr. Bball. It's the season as a whole. With that logic, Jon Hood should have finished well back in the pack because he played on a bad team. You can't penalize a kid because he has to play THE hardest possible schedule(7th region tourney) in the state to get to Rupp.

The difference this year is that Sewell and Trinity have accomplished feats that no one else has in the history of the state in the midst of a 23 game winning streak while the other players have done well but nothing spectacular(Justice 1-2 in top 20 games). I'm not sure that I can agree that a four game run at state overcomes the whole season and I would bet that Darius Miller wasn't too far behind Mack with his regular season play that season. The 7th is brutal with at least eight teams(Trinity, Ballard, Eastern. Manual, Jtown, Moore , Male, Seneca) in the position that they would be favorites in 10/16 other regions(exclude 2, 4, 9, 10, 11, 15). I hope for the kid's sake that the award isn't a Rupp love fest as that isn't truly going to identify the top player for the year! And I agree Watts is a nice player!

That's a ridiculous statement!:ohbrother: Sewell has had a year that none of the others can even come close to replicating. He has done it playing against and beating no less than ten(Ballard, Eastern, Jtown, Seneca, at Lex Cath, Clark Co, Iroquois, Male, Scott Co scrimmage, Bowling Green scrimmage) of the BGP top twenty teams in the state and winning THE three hardest tournaments in the state as MVP. His team has to play the #12 team JUST to get to the regional, then #2 in the district final,then potentially three top ten teams to make it to state. Justice, his closest competitor IMO for the award, will not even see a top twenty team until the second round at Rupp. You put Trinity in SV's place and they are CRUISING into the state semis with only McCreary having a shot to play with them. It just happens to be a horrible year to try to get out of the 7th but you can't penalize the kid for that! Sewell has led the team with the best regular season in the state, he is the clear favorite even if Trinity gets upset in the region/district and if Trinity gets to Rupp the award will be a bit of a farce if he doesn't get it!! Hope he makes it to Rupp so you can see what everybody over here in Louisville already knows! :thumb:
