Yes this was a close game and Montgomery Co. is a good team. But I think some of you are underestimating the importance of Keith Downing to this Mason Co. team. He is not a scorer (he doesn't have to be, they are loaded with offense) but he brings a defensive intensity to the Royals that no other player on their team does. He usually guards the other teams best guard the whole game, night in and night out. He is a great passer and brings the ball in almost every time he is on the floor. That may not sound like much but Mason Co. looked very confused in the Madison Central game inbounding the ball for at least a handful of plays. They at one point had to inbound the ball from under their own basket and Russ Middleton had to throw a pass to the other free throw line to Ryan Hamm to get the ball in. Plays and Confusion like that can mean the difference between a win and a loss in tight games. Downing is also a key rebounder for the Royals. They really do miss him and are a better team with him on the floor. He will make a difference if these teams meet again this season. And as for the injury, he should play Friday. But if he is not at least 85% don't be surprised if O'Hearn keeps him out against another 10th Region foe.

Top 5 Player in the state? You must not have watched the same player I did. He isn't close to a top 5 player in the state. He isn't even a top 5 player in the 11th in my opinion.

Second game of the year. We played Bryan Station the first game of the year.

It was a normal crowd for a big game like this. Not packed but there were alot of people there. It isn't packed unless the seats on the stage are open and they were not for this game.

Punk Griffen was a GREAT man. He attended my church in Maysville and I have grown to know him, his daughter, son in law, and grandsons through church events. They are great people. Punk always had a smile on his face and was pleasent to be around. The world has lost a good one....

This was the worst overall game I have seen from the Royals in a long, long, time. Yes, Darius got into foul trouble. Yes, Trevor and Russ were recovering from illness. Yes, Mason Co was short their 6th or 7th man. Yes, they shot the ball extremely bad from the free throw line. Add all that together, and Mason Co has several excuses. But there are no excuses for a game like that. With the exception of a few players, I feel like Mason Co showed a lack of heart. They didn't seem like they wanted it. At times, they were very selfish and seemed like they didn't even care. Don't get me wrong, Mason Co. has all the potential in the world. When they are playing at their best I believe that they are the number one team in the state and the most talented team in the state. But they aren't showing it. They run no offense what-so-ever and just try to take their man one on one. That doesn't work against good, well coached (as much as I hate to say it) teams like Scott Co. They were outcoached and simply outplayed. Luckily, this was just a regular season game. In the big scheme of things it means nothing. NOTHING matters until tournament time. There is still pleanty of time for the Royals and Coach O'Hearn to right the ship. You have the whole city of Maysville behind you guys, show us what you can do and make us proud. We know you can do it and you know you can do it. Step it up! Show the state who wears the Crown!

They were coming home from a road trip where they beat a top 20 team and almost beat the current number 3 team in the nation. They felt they were better than every team in the state after that. It shows no matter how good you are, there are alot of other good teams out there that can beat you.

The outcome of the rematch will not be the same. Mason has something to prove.

I agree. All they had to do was look in the Iolani program book to see bio's about the team. They had a few statistics and listed a few key players as well. For anyone to think they had no idea about their compitition would be wrong.

Who did you mean choked then? And I would find it very hard to believe that the teams in Hawaii didn't have at least some sort of scouting report. They at least knew about Miller, Setty, and Middleton.

Easy Rook. You have to remember, we are talking about high school kids here and saying that they choked is very harsh. Players definately read these boards and don't deserve those comments. They know that they had the game in their hands and let it slip away. They will hopefully use this game as fuel for the rest of the season. Losing is not fun. Can't win a close game when the pressure is on??? Did they not just beat a top 20 team in the NATION?? That was a close game and they definately didnt choke there. If I am not mistaken, they beat Lex Cath last year in overtime in one of the two times they played and that wasn't choking either. I do agree that they try to go one on one late in the game instead of trying to run some sort of offense. But if playing zone and taking the three away would beat the Royals every time, they would have more than two losses. They are more than just a 3 point shooting team and showed that in Hawaii when normal 3's weren't falling. If it was that easy to beat them, wouldn't they lose more often?

I am very surprised that I am the first one to say this, but what happened with Mason Co. at the end of regulation? Catholic had just hit a three to tie it and Darius had the ball with 15 seconds to go, he dribbles past half court and waits until there is about 3 seconds left and shoots a 3. This was NOT EVEN CLOSE to the shot Mason Co. needed. O'Hearn should've called a timeout and set up something, or at least called a play from the bench that would lead to a better shot than a fadeaway three. You want the ball in Darius' hands in crunchtime but you have to want a better shot than that. Its one thing to get beat by a good team, which Catholic is. Its something totally different to have the feeling that you had the game and let it slip away. Kudos to Lex Cath though. Mason Co. just ran out of legs at the end. They have played 10 games in a little over 2 weeks and it eventually takes a toll on you. No shame in losing to Catholic on their home court in their tournament. Hopefully it will refocus the Royals, make them realize that even though they are a good team, they are not invincible. Alot of work needs to be done before tournament time.

If you read my post I was talking about the Mason player having no bad intentions, then I said he went strong to the whole.

Maybe when he plays hard. He has all the physical talents in the world but doesn't always use them on the defensive end. Unless Darius is playing hard, he isn't even the best defender on his team.

This will be a tough, physical game. I believe that Mason is about 10+ pts better than Lex Cath, but taking into account that Mason Co. will be playing its 10th game in a little over 2 weeks, Mason Co will be a little tired. They also are a little banged up and are playing Lex Cath on their home floor. With all that said, I think Mason Co. wins a nail biter, by 3 points.
