wow... Mason must have really dominated the second half.

Mason didn't really dominate until late in the fourth when the defense stepped up it's intensity. Game was close until then. Good luck in the finals Royals, bring another Holiday Classic Champs trophy back to Maysville!!:ylsuper:

Congrats to Mason County in a very entertaining game to watch. Before I posted my comments, I read all the posting about this game, and no where did anyone post this. Mason County came back strong at the start of the third quarter but CovCath was still within striking distance when Senior guard Chris Bondick was knocked (was not a dirty play at all) to the floor under the CovCath basketball and landed on his left hand/wrist breaking it. CovCath after Bondick went out of the game, never seemed to be the same team the rest of the way....

 

Both teams played hard and CovCath should be proud of what they accomplished against one of the best teams in the Nation. MC knew they were in a game tonight and I think the Mason County Coach had a few words to say to his team at half time as they came out playing with fire in there eyes at the start of the third quarter. CovCath to there credit, didn't back down at all and were within striking distance until Bondick went down. His injury just seemed to hit CovCath players hard seeing one of their seniors go down.....and they just didn't seem to have their hearts in it the rest of the way. Now I am not saying at all that CovCath would have won the game without the injury, but I think the score would have been a whole lot closer....

CovCath before the injury had the other Mason County players puzzled both on the "D" and "O" and Miller for the first time that I have seen him play (5 times now) took over the game for MC. He is a dominate player and tonight he showed to me at least that when he wants to he can be the team.

 

Yesterday before the MC game, I was talking to the MC radio guy and he said he would like to see Miller being a little bit more selfish on the floor and with the ball. The man said sometimes he is just too much of a team player, well tonight without Miller MC loses this game....

Now that this has been posted in the Lexington Herald Leader I can tell everybody that the Sunday Consolation game between CovCath and Paintsville has been canceled. No reason to play this game at all.....

 

NOTE: The third-place game between CovCath and Paintsville scheduled for Sunday at 5 p.m. was canceled. Neither coach wanted to play because of injuries and schedule restraints. The only game on Sunday will be the championship.

If he had stopped and shot the ball or went around him (the CovCath player was ready and willing to take the charge) he wouldn't have received the foul nor missed the shot. Yes it was a foolish move by him. You like the showboating, I like the player who uses his head to score without getting a foul called on himself doing it...

I think Mason came out a different team, and would have won this game regardless. Darius is relentless when he gets a little what I call "basketball angry." He was the difference and the injury was huge, but I think Mason still would have came out on top had Bondick not have gotten hurt. By the way I hope he can return to the team, I hate to see a senior get hurt like this.
