If he had stopped and shot the ball or went around him (the CovCath player was ready and willing to take the charge) he wouldn't have received the foul nor missed the shot. Yes it was a foolish move by him. You like the showboating, I like the player who uses his head to score without getting a foul called on himself doing it...

 

It wasn't foolish, Miller was on a mission at that point. He was hammered a few times tonight without a call. He decided at that point he was gonna do whatever it took to get to the rim.

Hey, I was just curious if CovCath was ready for "bigtime" basketball? I sent an email to the radio broadcast crew and they must have misplaced it.

My first time at the Lexington Catholic gym, I have gotten spoiled by going to the Fieldhouse several times a year. I don't know what I expected, it's a nice gym, I guess I just expected more. In any case, to the game.

 

Mason Co played about as bad a first quarter as is possible and were still right in the game. Shot selection was awful, don't know if there were any positives at all. You give the Colonels some credit for that, but the Royals weren't helping themselves either.

 

It's a 4 point game at halftime and I told the guy next to me before the game, that the Royals have made 3rd quarter runs in every game this year. Sure enough, all heck breaks loose and the Royals take care of business.

 

It was an unfortunate injury, but facts are facts, the Royals have outscored Cov Cath by what seems like 30-40 in the second half of each of these games. When Mason Co turned up the heat, there was nothing the Colonels could do about it, it happened game 1 and it happened game 2. Doesn't diminish the fact that Cov Cath is one of the better teams in the state and will likely be a force in their regional tournament.

 

Nice job by the Royals, get through 1 more game and come HOME! :thumb:

The nicest gym in the state is Marshall Co. If you want to experience the nicest high school gym visit sometime. I'm not from there, but went to the Hoopfest, wow, awesome experience. The ribeye sandwichs were great.

 

about the game, Miller changed the game in the 2nd half by posting on the block, Cov Cath could not stop him.

Since when is attempting to dunk on somebody foolish? If anybody was foolish it was the CovCath player who almost ended up getting "posterized" like the little guy from poor St. Patrick's did last year when he ended up on the front page of the Ledger Sports page getting dunked on by D. Miller.

Oh he did, but he looked a bit foolish on one where he charged a CovCath player, and missed the dunk big time. CovCath before the injury had the other Mason County players puzzled both on the "D" and "O" and Miller for the first time that I have seen him play (5 times now) took over the game for MC. He is a dominate player and tonight he showed to me at least that when he wants to he can be the team.

 

Yesterday before the MC game, I was talking to the MC radio guy and he said he would like to see Miller being a little bit more selfish on the floor and with the ball. The man said sometimes he is just too much of a team player, well tonight without Miller MC loses this game....

Mason County coaching staff needs to make sure they have the halftime speech available for future use.

 

I thought Bondick went down with the injury just before halftime? If that's correct, not only were the Colonels within striking distance, but were 4 points ahead. Mason County outscored the Colonels 40-18 in the final 16 minutes. Bondick would have helped for sure, but I don't believe the Colonels overcome that kind of second half advantage with him in the game; even as valuable as he is. Looked like a nasty injury from floor level; I assumed it was a dislocation or a break. Hopefully he gets well in a hurry; I sure hate to see anyone hurt and it always seems a little bit tougher whan it's a senior.

 

Royals were way too passive on defense in the first half, allowing CC to run that motion offense almost to perfection. Darius did a nice job locking up #21 (as in the first meeting); but #32 hit a couple of open threes that kept the Colonels ahead.

 

Second half was a complete turnaround. Much like the first meeting, the Royals turned up the intensity; seemed to get every rebound. Good pressure after made baskets; according to the stats CC had 11 turnovers but it seemed like 5 or 6 of them were in the third quarter when the Royals took over. And something lit a fire under Darius as well. He played like a MAN in the second half. No hanging around 25 feet from the basket tonight. The best dunk (and there were several) was the twister with a couple of guys draped on his back; not many high schoolers make this play.

 

Solid game from all the starters as well as Tolle, who seems to relish mixing it up in the paint. Good luck tomorrow night; it will take the Royals' "A-game" to win.

CC was given kudos, and rightfully so, for shutting down Elliott County (although some say it wasn't CC's defense but just a bad shooting night for EC. It's my humble opinion that bad shooting nights are often caused by good defense) yesterday, but maybe - just maybe - Mason County has been playing a little defense as well.

Congrats to both teams. They both are quality teams and make their communities proud. :ylsuper:

Who got hurt for Cov Cath and are they okay. What kind of injury was it.

#15 Bondick, a guard for CovCath broke his hand or wrist (see post 6) just before halftime.

Sounds like O'Hearn earned his keep at halftime and Listerman...not so much.
