  1. They can't make that big of an impact if they didn't impress you enough to make you remember their names. I think Lex Cath will be average next year and nothing close to what they have been recently. They are just getting thrown into the top 10 because people don't know how good anyone will really be. Its just name recognition.
  2. Sorry, it may be just me, but does Lex Cath really have a top 10 team returning next year? Besides Botkin and Sanford, I don't think they will be that good. I don't think that they have another returning player that played any significant minutes at all. Is it just because they are Lex Cath? Do they have good young talent that I dont know about? I think they will be top 25 but not top 10.
  3. We'll see about that. Too bad "average" at Mason Co is "great" by the standards of most schools. Mason County will be at least a top 25 team next year and will most definately compete for a 10th region title. I guess that is average compared to a STATE TITLE!
  4. Downing was a role player last year because that is what the team needed. If State tournament was any indication, Downing will have a breakout year and show everyone how good he really is. Setty, Pawsat, and Gilbert will all play big roles on the team next year as well, and all three can score. Ryan Hamm is also playing really well with the Shining Stars team this year. Mason County will be good, it is just yet to be determined how good.
  5. I just think its bad for High School Basketball that players can come and go as they please. It may not be fair for the kids that would have to sit out but it is also not fair to the kids who have to ride the bench and get their minutes stolen by a player who wanted to move for basketball reasons. Think about all the rules in life that are in place because of the few people that violate them. These rules are in place for the good of everyone. And I think that having a rule to make transfers sit out a year would benefit basketball as a whole.
  6. Because its not always for the right reasons. Some people move for basketball reasons and not life reasons. Some people get different jobs in different places so their kid can play basketball there. I don't think that is right. And since you can't tell the real reason people move, they should sit out no matter what. Otherwise these kids get to come and go as they please and change schools every time something doesn't go their way or a better offer presents itself.
  7. Most of those are positives for him. I never said it was a bad move for him. But it is bad for any region when players can transfer whenever they want and not have to sit out.
  8. They also transfered in when they were really young. Not in the middle of their high school careers.
  9. Barner was but he got limited minutes. He was not an impact player like Zollo will be. I think Barner should've had to sit out too, just like any other player should.
  10. Setty did in elementary school. That is not the same thing. Euton and Jackson transfering to Scott Co and Sanford transfering to Lex Cath is the same thing, impact players transfering in in the middle of their HIGH SCHOOL careers.
  11. Terrible for everyone but Clark. I don't know about you but I don't want Region changing kids transfering in and turning the Region into the 11th with Scott Co and Lex Cath. Players should not be able to transfer wherever they want with no penalty.
  12. The SEC Network may not have as many viewers as the Big 10 Network, but it would have enough to make the network thrive.
  13. Isn't this statement true about Clark Co too? What have they done to earn it? Nothing. They have alot of potential and talent but with or without Zollo they have alot of work to do any won't just be handed a 10th Region title. And Mason Co. doesn't rebuild, they reload. And they also have 3 extremely talented incoming sophomores that will battle with GRC in the upcoming years. As Pressrow said, Tradition never Graduates, and Mason Co. will always be a force in the 10th.
  14. There is a really big difference. Darius was a home-grown Mason County player and earned it on the court. Zollo has done nothing to earn it yet. And he isn't even on the team yet. If he does transfer to Clark, they are the team to beat, but not a 20 point favorite like some are saying. I think Mason County and others will put up a very good fight and maybe beat them even if Zollo transfers. And, its just my opinion, but I think him transfering would be terrible for the 10th Region.
  15. Rash isn't close to Middleton. Not even close. Rash is a good player but Downing is poised for a breakout season with the Royals. He understood his role on the team last year and focused on being a great rebounder and defender while helping some of Mason County's extremely talented players handle the offensive load. Rash may be as good as Downing, but he is not better by any means.
  16. The junior squad will consist of: Darrin Ballou -Adair County Wesley Cox - Ballard Keith Downing - Mason County Jonathan Ferguson - Elliott County Jon Hood - Madisonville Nick Hudson - Paul Dunbar Jacob Jenkins - Manual Chuck Jones - Hopkins County Central Russ Middleton - Mason County C.J. Penny - Anderson County Richie Phares - Scott County Vee Sanford - Lexington Catholic Corey Wilford - Christian County Both games are set for 7 p.m. Looks to be a pretty good team.
  17. This may or may not have been posted, but the best of the '08 class will play some of the best of the '09 on June 9th at Mason County and on June 11th at Lexington Catholic. This looks to be a very intriguing matchup and could be fun to watch. http://bluegrassinsider.com/Feature.aspx?FeatureID=139
  18. I agree Press--seems strange to let him go and perhaps even more strange that there is no discussion about it. Coach Turner was not only a good coach (at several sports) but was also a capable athletic director and from all indications a good biology teacher. St. Pat has big shoes to fill in all of those areas. I would have liked to see Coach Turner go out on his own terms--he more than earned it and stayed with St. Patrick in lean years with others would have left. Just doesn't see right to me.
  19. For those of you that saw this team play, what did you think? I was impressed but also saw alot of room for improvement. Thoughts?
  20. I never said they didn't. Almost every player on the team is on equal footing talent wise. It helps when you can bring players off the bench and not have a drop off in talent. The sad thing is that the coach still has very little idea about the strengths and weaknesses of his players. The longer he is with him, the better they will get.
  21. This may be true about the Derek Smith All Stars, but it is not true at all about the Shining Stars. This weekend was the first time that the Shining Stars had all their players at the same time, and that wasn't even until the two games on Sunday, after they played team Kentucky. This was the first time that Vee Sanford has played with them as well. You make it sound like they have played alot together and that is simply untrue. They rarely have a practice and are at full strength.
  22. Agreed McLovin--but the Shining Stars 17-u team has yet to be at full strength and has little or no playing time together as a team. On the other hand, the Derick Smith team has played about 20 games (and a couple of tournaments) together. Either way, should be fun to watch!
