West has much better athletes than East. When you have good skill players and speed you do things like return kickoffs for touchdowns. Just curious when is the last time East has returned a Kickoff for a touchdown against a quality opponent? West has a few other players for East has to worry about other than their QB (B. Brown). East has struggled lately not because of coaching, scheduling or community support. They have struggled because they have not had a good group of athletes come through in a long time. East has maybe few kids that would start at West this year one of those being their kicker. Not sure with your logic about East playing Raceland close? If East capitalizes on turnovers, don't give up to many big plays to B. Brown, successfully moves the ball, they will only get beat by two scores at best.

You should try to watch the film he was held by #63 of Raceland almost all passing plays all night the times he didn't it was because he didn't touch #70 . Kid had 10 tackles according KHSAA.org and don't know how those broke up but a few were tackles for a loss and a sack I think. Plus a TD. "Decent Game"??? Maybe you will come back to reality after Ashland wins Friday night. But I'm sure it will be because of the officials or because Raceland had a bad game. Not because Ashland has superior athletes.

Scenario: How do you explain a interception with a 10 point lead with 1:30 something yet in a game? Why would you stop the clock with a incompletion? When all you have to do is take a knee. Raceland will be defended on the forum no matter what goes on in a game. Bottom line that is not smart football.

Raceland has a great program and a entire community behind them. I don't think anyone has ever questioned that. Feeling that a team is overrated does not mean I have a poor attitude, it simply means that I feel this years Raceland team is not as good as advertised. Raceland lost a lot from last years team. Conner Messer was the most important part of all three phases of the game and has not been replaced. Raceland should have taken a knee or been very conservative with their play call, that is smart and classy football. It's not a shot at the kids either they are going to do what they are told. You can twist it how ever you want but Raceland was trying to score and did. Then West returned a kickoff for a TD so what was the point? Run the clock out and be glad you avoided an upset. Ashland, Lawrence, Fairview, Paintsville and Russell are just as good as West Carter and most are better. West Carter did not play well in this game either. A good contest between Raceland and West Carter was not a result of West having a some kind of perfect game. Raceland may very well win a State Title this year and that would be a beautiful thing. But then again its not how good you are it's who you play and maybe Class A football will be like that this year?

Because Raceland only beating West Carter by 10 is not acceptable. They think they are going to win a State Championship. Not a very classy call by the staff. Plus their quarterback got rocked on the play good thing no injuries accrued by keeping the game going by greedy coaching decisions. Raceland is slow and if they are going to make some kind of title run they have a lot of work to do to make up for that. Raceland got the job done up front. How will they fare against better competition up front? Raceland could very well loose 4 games going into the playoffs. Congrats to Raceland on getting the job done last night. But I think the Raceland fans on here really need to check themselves with their expectations for this season.

West Carter 28 Raceland 24 B. Brown's last game against a good Garrard County team was his best game of the season in round one of the playoffs last year. He went 23/9 233YRDS 3TD 1INT passing and 13 for 106YRDS 1TD rushing. If he has a great game he will give the Raceland defense problems. Also younger brother P. Brown will be a impact player for West this year. He is a tremendous athlete as well. The Comet defense has great team speed that can handle the Raceland passing game. Question is will they off the Raceland running game for 4 quarters? Optimistic prediction...yes but not ridiculous.

Any thoughts? What teams and players looked the best? Who needs to improve?

Rowan Co. has the potential to score big points. Cross is very dangerous on special teams very hard to defend if you kick to him. Wing is an Elite 11 Quarterback that scored that ran the ball all over Lawrence a quality opponent. I seen were Knox played very well against Johnson Central, but the offensive look that Rowan will show will be much different Johnson Central smash mouth football.

Hats off to Belfry. By far the best defensive team West has played this year. The game was very close in the first half with the score at about 5:00 minutes in the 2nd of 14-7 Belfry. The second half Belfry's depth and along superior play in the trenches took over. Belfry is a contender for at least the semi finals IMO, and West Carter is not. West Carter has had trouble up front all season, but had a much over due season of 7-4 because of great team speed. Belfry is a very physical team that will be big trouble for Mason next Friday at Mason. West Carter had their shot this year with only 24 players but never could get over the hump and beat a quality opponent. On a side note West Carter's Danny Cline whom was averaging 10+ yards a carry and rushing over a 1,000 yards this season. Was injured on the 4th play of the game and did not return. May have not be a factor in the game but definitely crippled West Carter's very balanced offensive attack and also made a very strong defense show it's lack of depth. West Carter is on the rise with it's program but still no match for a program like Belfry.

I feel that West Carter has better skill than Belfry and Belfry having better Line play. So I think this one is a toss up I could see it going either way by a lot or a little. But if Belfry is not ready for the Comets like a few years back could be an upset at pound creek!

Well said, I think Coach Evens is one of the better coaches in the area. Big school with a small roster is always going to be bad. Not for sure what the problem is at Boyd but the basketball program has dropped way off also. Maybe the new high school being constructed can create some buzz in athletics at Boyd?

McGlone for West had 20 tackles 144 yards rushing and 2 TDs. Cline for West had 2 interceptions and 160 yards rushing and 2 TDs. All backup action in the 4th quarter.
