  1. Stein was a dual threat and was very effective running the ball when he was given the green light. Check out Trinity's last drive in regulation of the State Championship game.
  2. William Stein was named the District Player of the Year by the Kentucky Football Coaches Association and was honored at halftime of the 6A State Championship game with the other District players of the year. I am sure William was very honored by the individual recognition but regards the 6A State Championship as his greatest achievement in his athletic career to date.
  3. What you don't see watching Trinity's offense is the enormous amount of mental preparation that goes into playing the QB position in order to read defenses and coverages, set the line protection and put the team in the correct play. Trinity's offense is not simply lining up and running the play that is sent in. It is much, much more than that and requires a QB who can handle all of the presnap reads, reset the alignment, set the players in motion and execute the play after the snap. Further, throwing the short to midrange pass is not so simple either. Most of those passes require great precision to put the ball in the correct spot in order that the receiver can make the run after the catch. If the ball is not placed where it is supposed to be then the receiver's adjustment to the ball will, most likely, ruin his chance to run after the catch for any significant yardage. Further, the screen passes also require throwing the ball to an unoccupied spot with great precision and with an understanding of where everybody will be after the snap of the ball. Many of Trinity's pass plays, screens, etc. also require a great deal of finesse in order to get the ball over on-coming lineman or blitzing LBs and Ss. Go watch Trinity practice and attend the countless hours of Coach Coverdale's QB school, film sessions and QB meetings and then decide if the spread offense is simple enough that any team can run it, any coach can coach it and any QB can execute it.
  4. Matthew Stein was number 24 when he played for St. X. I know for a fact that he was and is very proud of his little brother and has always been one of little brother's biggest fans and supporters. Nothing to laugh about, just proud to keep the championships in the family.
  5. The sweeper on the left from 2005 is Creighton Jones and he does not have a little brother.
  6. It is my understanding that four players from Trinity were invited to the squad but respectfully declined to participate. I heard they want to take a long and much deserved deep breath and relax for awhile.
  7. Great team victory! Overcoming adversity is instilled in the Trinity players and they prove it year in and year out. Fighting through the bad plays and mistakes takes courage and a calm, cool resolve as well as trusting your skill and that of your teammates and coaches. Trinity epitomizes courage and resolve. Congratulations Rocks.
  8. Congratulations on a great year Bluebirds. Trinity started the year with a win over Bowling Green and you finished it. However, as to "who is Kentucky's finest?", a win over St. X gives Trinity the edge in my opinion. Wow! What a great year for Kentucky High School football. Kentucky definitely is a football state.
  9. Q. Did HC do something to have Stein in late in the game throwing a TD pass? A. I think it was because he was one TD pass from breaking Brohm's school record and Brohm was in attedance.
  10. St. X defense, special teams and balanced offense will be very difficult to beat. Will Manual's speed be enhanced playing on the artificial surface? If so, will this even be a factor? Manual will have to create points and great field position with its kick return game in order to have a chance. Getting loose against the St. X defense for big plays is not to be counted on. I think St. X advances and wins by two scores.
  11. I heard William had strep throat, but will be fine for tonight.
  12. I'm not sure, but I thought the thread was about Trinity 41 Dunbar 7. Now I'm learning about how much Jimmyref knows about officiating. What's the deal? Quit trying to disguise your dislike of Trinity with how much you care about some of its players or how officials call the games. Enough of the insincere praise and appreciation of Trinity, its players and coaches.
  13. Trinity and Highlands have great FOOTBALL stadiums. St. X has a beautiful facility with huge home stands, a nice turf field, a terrific track and impressive press box. But, as a fan, you're too far from the action, like Male, Dunbar, Henry Clay and every other field with a track around it.
  14. I checked out the stats from last week at http://www.geocities.com/trinityshamrock/ and it appears that the first team offense played only 5 plays in the second half, given the running clock. I can't understand why anyone with the slightest knowledge about football and football coaching/preparation for playoffs, would even suggest that it was a mistake or mean spirited, etc. to play the starting O for 5 plays. Further, I saw coach Beatty and coach Dover shaking hands and talking on the field after the game and it appeared to me that both men were very civil and respectfull of one another and each other's team. Lastly, how about the players who have waited their turn for so many years and play only 5 plays in a half? None of them gripe or complain, so why should people from some other school? People that don't get it never will.
  15. Wow! Seems like a lot of hurt feelings out there about Trinity playing sophomores in a freshman game, which, I understand, Trinity lost. I don't think Elder had any objection. I am also tired of Trinity bashing over playing time issues for kids of any class. If the kids don't like it they can always go somewhere else and play. As coach Claiborne used to say, "that's why they make chocolate and vanilla ice cream." It is just a fact of life at Trinity High School football that most everybody has to wait his turn to play, if at all. The trade off is what it is. Either accept it or move on. Period! News flash to those who don't get it or refuse to accept it, playing football at Trinity is much, much different than virtually anywhere else.
  16. St. X can name the score. PRP should not get more than 3 first downs against St. X's first defense. St. X should score every possession.
  17. The Rocks are still stinging from the game in Cincy. Poor Eastern, that they have to take the brunt of the Rocks lingering anger. The 45 point rule will go into effect before halftime...No offense to the Eagles.
  18. C'mon guys. The player of the week is Will Stein from Trinity. 23 - 43 for 375 yards with 3 TDs against the top ranked HS team in the nation on their field! The Rocks rushed for 33 yards in the game and Stein had 27 of that!
  19. QB Nick Petrinno. Sorry I wasn't thinking. I would rate him at 2A with Desensi. DL Jimbo Schaefer, Joe Plomin, Doug Scales, Carl Brady, Blake Nix & Luke McDermot need to be mentioned. LB Greg Metry, Greg Scales, Charlie Singleton, Johnny Miller and Joe Babey are in the mix. DB Alex Hennesey deserves a shout out. I can't recall enough of the outstanding DBs. The S from the '85 team needs mentioning, but I can't remember his name.
  20. Trinity's All Time Best include these players: OFFENSE QB Brian Brohm, Craig Desensi, Brandon Barth, Jeff Brohm RB Allan Hennessy, Mike McCarty, Jaimey ________, Corey Taylor FB Andy Murray, Vince Phillips, Greg McGuire TE Jim Campbell, Bob Thistleton, Mike Smyth WR Leon Smith, Tayshaun McBroom, Keith Calvin, Kyle Flynn C Mark Keane, Dane Spoelker, Mike Brotzge OL Brian Hemmerle OL Dylan Thiery OL David Burry OL Doug DeJarnett K Rob Bironas, Wade Tydlacka, Robert Roney P Ryan Tydlacka, Charles Roney, Mark Gatewood DEFENSE DE Chris Bratcher DL Louis Cristofoli DL Donnie Gardner DL Tony Tricase DL Will Ruef DL Mike Pfeifer LB Shawn Johnson LB Reggie White LB Carwell Gardner DB Devian Logan, David Block DB Eric Senn S Tim Schoen Please add to the list.
  21. According to a Henry Clay coach that I talked to today in Lexington, the real state championship is to be played at Henry Clay the following Friday against the winner of the Male - Trinity game. Henry Clay is hoping to get a shot at Trinity. I think Henry Clay will get its wish.
  22. Neither team has played a team like they will on Friday night. This is going to be a great game and Trinity will win by one point.
  23. The reference to more talent and better coaching was not a comparison to Trinity but to the teams Trinity has been playing. I do not beleive there is a better coaching staff than Trinity's and Trinity's overall talent and depth is as good as they have had. I admit, my comment was poorly worded. Sorry for the confusion.
  24. Trinity's defensive personnel is as good as it has had for a long time. Big, physical and speed at LB and DE. However, the schemes they run are cause for concern. A much more talented and better coached Male team will look to take advantage of the gaping holes in Trinity's pass defense. Trinity will have to control the ball on offense and spread the ball around the field, maybe even go to the TE. Male will bring its superior line speed on defense to pressure Petrino and flush him out of the pocket or force Trinity into short passes, screens and draws. Petrino can play that game very well too. Also, Trinity is faster than St. X on both sides of the ball. I don't beleive either of these teams has faced a team like the one it will face this Friday. Both teams are in uncharted waters as far as their opponent's talent, speed and execution is concerned. It will be a great football game for the fans. It will be played at a very high level with little to no mistakes. Each team will give the other its best shot without any excuses. I look for this game to go into two overtimes. Male has the home field advantage but Trinity has the big game advantage as the defending state champion. The kicking game will be the deciding factor and I beleive it will go to Trinity. Trinity by one point in the greatest KY high school game ever played round two.
