  1. Scott Co did not play a lot of zone that is their Man defense that sinks to the ball side. Match ups were the problem but I will say that no one expected them to be 26-4 when starting 3 freshman, a sophomore and a junior. I do believe if they are fortunate enough to play again, it will not be a blow out. The youth show a bit last night and they will learn from it. I can say that the team they lost to in the Toyota classic from Florida is much better than Dunbar and Scott Co should have won that game. You can't turn the ball over 25 plus times and expect to win and they know that. Hope they meet in Regionals it will be a great game.
  2. I had the pleasure of playing against his teams and got to know him real well thanks to the relationship he had with Bryson Warner. It was so great to see him come to practice and talk to him. He was such a great man and ambassador for the game of football. A legend and a man of integrity. Anyone who came into contact with him was a better person just by talking to him. RIP coach.
  3. It was actually 50, freshman Glen Covington had 7 points. Amazing young talent the Cards have
  4. Why does the 11th region not have a freshman and JV tournament like other regions? I would think that it would be a great venue and make for some fine basketball. Just curious.
  5. Nice win by the Cards. How good is this team. One 2 point loss early in the season and they just keep winning. They start 3 Freshman, a sophomore and a Junior. Last two games they have been without Freshman stand out Moreno and just keep plugging. They are playing about 10 guys right now and only 1 is a senior. They are starting to get good help from the bench with Senior Damron, Juniors Covington and Allen, sophomore Davis and freshman Fluker. Wilson is a 6'6 sophomore who is starting to come into his own as well. It seems like it is a different kid every night who shines. No selfish play, running the system that has made Hicks the winningest coach in Kentucky. They beat a very good team today. Hope they continue to improve because they just keep getting better and better. On a side note, 3 of the 5 starters are also football players and Davis, Fryman and Wilson also play football. They athletes on this team just keep brining it. Long use to play football and Moreno does track. The multiple sport athletes proving their worth at Scott Co. Good job boys, keep it up
  6. Not only are they young but 3 of the 5 starters are multiple sport athletes. Robb, Watts and Covington all play football and Robb is also a standout in baseball and Covington in Track. They have 3 more subs that play football on the varsity and Moreno finished 2nd in the shot at the middle school state meet last spring and help the 4 x 400 team set the Scott Middle school record. Long was a standout football and baseball kid as well through middle school. This group only has 1 senior who is high quality off the bench and is loaded in the sophomore and freshman group. They are playing extremely well right now and are only getting better. Will they win the 11th? I don't know but they sure will not be afraid to try. By February, I believe they will be 10 or 11 deep and will be all over you defensively. Very good game Robb and Moreno but the whole team played well. Exciting to watch. Going to be fun to watch the rest of this year and the next couple of years.
  7. Scott Co. starts 3 freshman, a sophomore and a junior. The 2nd 5 only has 1 senior a freshman, 2 sophomores and a junior. The future is bright and Moreno is legit. has great touch and very high basketball IQ. Only going to get better. Nice to mention that Scott Co. beat Lex. Cath at all 3 levels.
  8. 1. Male 2. Trinity 3. Lafayette 4. Scott County 5. Saint Xavier 6. Simon Kenton 7. Bryan Station 8. Cooper 9. Central Hardin 10. Manual I think this is pretty accurate from the games I saw and the teams I saw play and I saw all 10 of these on film.
  9. I agree that there are better QB than Hergott, but Riley Hall is the best IMO or Andre Davis from Bryan Station.
  10. I think Trinity and Scott Co. were better teams than Lafayette to face Male. But Lafayette won the games they needed to get there. They should have lost in the first round vs. Dunbar but somehow pulled it out and did it every week after that until they ran into Male
  11. I think that two possible ones I see is Grant Co over Madison Southern and Dunbar could give Lafayette all they want, especially if Lafayette tries to live off of the win they got in week 1 over them. This Dunbar team is a lot different than the team we saw in week 1.
  12. I am not saying that she has not gone through a lot BUT you have to respect authority. They have the SRO for a reason. When I was in school there was no SRO, but the paddle and guess what it worked and my parents taught me to respect authority and my elders. My parents would have beat my butt and I would beat my kids butt if they acted with disrespect. When is enough enough. Kids in todays society are being raised and taught that they have NO accountability. I do believe it may have been excessive but being in the schools I can tell you it is not getting any easier to discipline children and they run all over the school personnel because there are no punishment for the disrespect, foul language, and disruption that is going on daily in America's school and when something like this happens it just justifies more of these behaviors. Eventually the inmates are going to run the asylum if something isn't done to bring discipline back in school. I do know this if I do not follow my bosses orders I lose my job. If I do not follow a cops orders I go to jail, If I become defiant and disrespectful with the cops I am taking a butt whooping on my way to jail. It is SIMPLE, do what you are told and none of this is necessary. Lesson learned by all.
  13. Scott County will be very young but have a lot of players. You could see a team full of Freshman and sophomores playing significant minutes. Look for Moreno, Long, Fluker, Williams, and Covington to all play as freshman. Also look for sophomores Robb(started at PG late last year), Davis, Fryman, and Thompson. Juniors Watts, Hamilton, Lewis. Only seniors are Guyn and Damron. Several of young players to build for the future but don't be fooled they will compete. Now several of these kids play football and are all big players for the Cards playoff hopes. Freshman Covington, Sophomores Davis, Robb, Fryman Juniors Watts, Hamilton, (All start on football team). Once they all get in the groove they will be able to compete at a high level in my opinion.
  14. Thanks Harry, one of the things that jumps out and I do not have accurate numbers in front of me but from following football MOST of these teams have been quite successful. Maybe loyalty, consistency and longevity might have something to do with this and the fact they have built their programs and kept them sustained. KUDOS to these schools administrators for doing this.
  15. When was the last time a team that played in the State Championship game not make it out of districts the following year? That could happen tonight with Scott Co. They play Henry Clay @ HC for a shot at the regionals. They have lost to HC twice this year, but the last time it was on a last second shot. I can assure you that Coach Hicks will have the boys ready and this will be a war. Should be a great atmosphere to watch a game
  16. BBN baby, that is the reason why!! This state and not others. It makes no sense for a player to be involved in 7 on 7 or any other drill with out the most protective piece of equipment they wear, A HELMET!! I just don't understand why we keep adding more and more restrictions to football, and who is voting on this? Are coaches being polled about what they think, maybe a select few, but for the majority, the coaches in this state are getting tired of the misrepresentation that is taking place. What about camps? What about the fact the basketball program at my school starts the first day of school and will start back up the Monday after the state tournament. Fall baseball gets to wear helmets, what if you told them they could not wear helmets, what storm would that start. Makes no sense what so ever. How about the KHSAA attack AAU basketball, if you read the basketball threads, over half of the transfers they deal with has some sort of AAU connection. Maybe someone could start AAU football. They won't touch AAU because of the almighty $$$$, too far gone to ask for this. I say as coaches we need to stand together on what "we" want and not what a select few want.
  17. Them and the coaches that push this stupid idea. The amount of scholarships given out to kids a year is very very small compared to the number of athletes trying to get them. When you enter your freshman year you have 4 years to be a kid, then you will make big boy decisions. Let them enjoy it, also they can work through two sports, still have the skills necessary to be successful and will get as much opportunity to earn a scholarship as the next person. Better yet, take all the money you will waste on the personal coaches, running all over God's green earth to every tournament and showcase out there, and put that money into ACT prep and get your score high enough to where it does not matter what sport you play. This is a culture that is fostered by ESPN, because they live a pipe dream that they are going to be on the show one day. Nice dream not so much a reality.
  18. Oh well just another example of how our society has become a NOW world and if you don't win then you are gone. Maybe if they paid coaches like they do in Texas, GA, and college, I could see this philosophy but in this state it is a joke how much turnover is becoming the trend every year. Also must of the people making these decision would know how to put knee pads in a pair of pants. Good luck to Johnny and the rest of the coaches out there.
  19. If this is true then there may be the problem. Maybe just maybe they should look at the athlete. LeBron was a great football player. I think back to Mason Co with Lofton and Grutza( sorry if spelling is off) oh Darious Miller. It is shameful in my opinion for ANY high school coach to try and persuade a player and his or her parents to have a kid specialize and if that is the case they shold be FIRED. But if they are winning they get away with it.
  20. I will 100% respectfully disagree. You can ask any recruiter out there if they want specialization and they will tell you absolutely not. We have become a society of if I train in one sport year round I have a better chance. That is false and it is proved over again and again at the college level. But high school coaches think that you have to have them 24/7/365 and that is just not the case. I wish more and more people in this state would understand this.
  21. Congrats to Lex and Kenny. Lex is a great kid and I know this is the first of many. Keep working hard
  22. Just for the record Ryle as went back to back Region champs and an 8th place finish in the state and they do not practice during spring break.
  23. Football starts on July 15th ended Dec. 3rd this year that is 141 plus 10 days of spring ball = 151. Basketball starts Oct. 15th ended March 10th that is 147 plus 24 days in June = 171 days. Plus there are tons of states that only allow 20 regular season games and tournament. I am all for basketball and kids playing all they can but both sports are fortunate as to what our state allows us to do, look at many other neighboring states to see how limited they are.
