  1. 3 and out Mayfield. MC already has a first down at midfield.
  2. Metcalfe has a tough team, but style of play puts them at a disadvantage. Mayfield has an explosive offense that can score quickly. Metcalfe relies on ball control and moving the chains. I have seen in some of their games online where they onside kick for every kickoff. They recovered the opening kickoff against Danville, and then another one with 4 minutes left to seal the game. If they can get a few of those tonight, and score on the majority of their possesions, then they will have a chance to be in the game. If Mayfield gets up by multiple scores I don't see Metcalfe having a chance. I don't know the stats, but they throw 5 times a game, maybe not even that.
  3. MC schdeule is soft for sure. But they did what they were supposed to do, and that's beat all the teams they play, good bad or ugly. I watched a couple of their games on Youtube. Looks like they are tough/gritty team. Ball control, want to grind you down running the ball. I don't see them throwing the ball much. They have some good size up front. Not much team speed (except #5). They didn't exactly play any offensive juggernauts, so I'm not sure what to say about their defense. I don't know anything about Danville except what I read on here. Power Rankings have these two teams nearly dead even, so I would give the edge to the home team. But I can also see where some think Danville speed will be the difference maker. Hard to argue that point after watching a couple of MC games online. Either way, it should be a good matchup.
  4. Murray just doesn't have the horses this year to hang with Mayfield this year. I think if they play a really clean game they could possibly make it close. Mayfield hasn't been playing the cleanest football. Right now I see them getting away with mental lapses because of the level of competition. Not gonna stay like that for long.
  5. TC played hard. Decent size on the line. But they only have maybe 10 bench players. No depth. QB looked good running the ball. Mayfield played ok. Still looked a little sluggish. I'm ready to see them play a good team. Not sure if Murray is up to it next week.
  6. Owensboro Catholic remaining oppenents records are 5-1, 6-1, and 5-2 with their last game being a higher class opponent. And two of their three remaining opponents are ahead of them in the RPI, Hancock County is the other team in between them and Mayfield and OC already beat them. Mayfield remaining opponent records are 0-5, 3-3, and 5-2 with their last game being against a higher class opponent. Seems to me if OC wins out they have a legit shot at making a big jump in the RPI. Will it be enough to take the #2 seed?? Lotta variables but I see that as the biggest wild card right now. I don't think Butler or McLean have a shot at beating them (even tho I think McLean came away with the playoff upset last year).
  7. These initial polls are a good jumping off point. Those of us that follow along thru the season understand how skewed these rankings are when they first come out. By the end of the regular season, it usually works itself out and is close to where it needs to be. It will be an interesting finish this season. Beechwood with one loss, LCA with two. Normally I would complain about Mayfield's lack of quality opponents, but this season they need some easy games to recover from injury. Not to mention, getting some of these younger guys some playing time. There is still a chance the Cards take a loss. Murray has been a thorn in their side recently so who knows. The Tigers don't have much of a defense, but have been putting up lots of points, so who knows. Beechwood and LCA easily have the two toughest schedules and its not close. And both of those teams have had the injury bug too. I do think, talent wise, Mayfield has closed the gap this season on both of those teams, so if they do happen to match up with either I suspect a tighter game than last years semifinal game with Beechwood and Mayfield. Owensboro Catholic is a hard team to figure out. I have watched them play Mayfield several times over the years, and they didn't meet my expectations. Maybe they will turn a corner this year. They just haven't made some post season noise in quite some time. I will say, their three losses are to some tough teams. Hancock and McLean haven't played anyone of note, so I don't consider them a threat to the top 4 teams.
  8. Physically they can hang with anybody they play. They roughed up Mayfield pretty good.
  9. The top four look good. I would switch LCA and Mayfield. But I feel like Mayfield is closer to second place than the last couple of years. I know OC just beat Owensboro, but I think they are pretenders until they prove otherwise come playoff time. The gap between the top three and everyone else is pretty wide.
  10. This is a hard game to read. Gotta give PT props for their strength of schedule. Three out of their next four games are tough ones. They will be battle hardened come playoff time, regardless of outcomes.
  11. I can't say with certainty that there was malice involved. I did watch it replay several times. #71 was clearly yelling in the Mayfield players direction as he limped off the field. Just didn't seem very sportsmanlike or respective of his opponent. Obviously, this is just my opinion. And for the recond, I like reading your posts. You are knowledgeable about the the PT program, and seem to have good insight into the game of football in general. You guys have a good team this year. Hopefully you can harness the potential and turn it into something special.
  12. I was in the stands at the game. Rewatched on Red Helmet video later on to catch anything I missed. As previously mentioned, not sure why PT didn't keep running the ball. They were wearing Mayfield down and Cards were dropping left and right with cramping. Not to mention, PT would starting throwing and give the ball back to the cards via an INT. I hated Mayfield's redzone wildcat package. It wasn't fooling anyone. They would have been better off keeping the regular QB in and throwing the ball. As far as the emotion of the game and the refs, I don't have much good to say so I will keep it short. I've watched PT play football for decades now, and I don't think I've ever watched a game where they displayed such a low level of class and respect for the game, or their opponent. It was particularly disturbing watching how #71 acted after Jax Rodgers got hurt and limped off the field. As far as the refs go, everyone has been on a team or rooted for one where they thought the refs screwed them, me included. But it can't be left up to the refs. Don't like the spot of the ball on your 4th and short?? Get more yards next time and leave no doubt. Don't like getting personal fouls called on you or your team?? Then shut your mouth and play ball. Let your game do the talking.
  13. Mayfield needed to pass on that last play. Incomplete pass would have stopped the clock. Mayfield had momentum early, but PT hung in there and has kept it most of the first half. Mayfield offense hasn’t been very productive, and their defense has had to play a ton of snaps and looks gassed and it’s only halftime. Right now this is PT’s game.
  14. Not a good look for Murray. Trigg strength of schedule isn't the greatest. Murray must not have much of a defensive unit.
  15. PT will easily have the most potent offense that Mayfield will see in the regular season, so this game will be a good indicator of how stout Mayfield's defense really is. If Mayfield has a weakness right now, its consistentcy on offense. Outside of Starks with a couple big plays each game, the offensive consistentcy just isn't there. Passing game is hit or miss. I think Mayfield wins a low scoring affair, but a shootout would defintely lean in PT's favor. I do see the difference in Mayfield the last couple of years versus this year, and that would be team play. This year everyone seems to be filling their role well, playing together, and there is quite a bit of depth on both sides of the ball. Defense has been great, but we will see Friday night if that's more about the quality of opponent, or maybe they really are that good.
  16. Starks breaks 15 tackles on his way to a 70+ yard TD run.
  17. Pick six Mayfield. Two point conversion good. Cards up 22-0.
  18. Hoptown went three and out to start game. Big punt return for Mayfield inside Hoptown territory to set up a rushing touchdown. Hoptown fumbles on next possession, mayfield throws a TD to go up 14-0
  19. PT is def closing the gap on Mayfield. The streak has to be broken at some point. PT has their best squad in quite some time so this year might just be the year.
  20. Not too sure. 22 years of coaching will wear a man out. I suspect he is legitimately done and they will hire within. That’s just my guess. It appears things have been setup over the last few years for a smooth transition. We shall see.
  21. I checked incoming weather midday Friday. Decided going to my mothers in southern Marshall county would be safer (she has a basement). My house in mayfield isn’t far from the candle factory, so I’m glad I was gone (no damage). Today was my first time to drive thru town. Doesn’t seem real. So many are suffering. Some cleanup has started, but still mostly focusing on search and rescue. I fear the body count will continue to rise the further we get along in cleanup. So many structures are either a pile of rubble, or there is no pile because the wind carried it all away. I hope I never have to see something like this again in my lifetime.
  22. Their offense was good. Their defense was lock down. They only scored two touchdowns in title game, the rest were field goals. Mayfield just couldn't move the ball, and also missed on several deep passes that were open but couldn't be pulled in. Michael Dawson (freshman RB) had his best game of the season and appeared to have a bright future. He subsequently tore his ACL during basketball that winter and was never the same.
  23. I agree none of those Mayfield teams were up to snuff and wouldn't have beat Beechwood, or alot of other good teams.
  24. He went untouched pretty much. I just don't know how the PT edge defender doesn't string that play out and turn him back in. Pre-snap motion went that way. Not sure how they weren't expecting that.
  25. I was less impressed with that TD run, and more disappointed in how PT let them get to the edge on 4th and 7.
