The technology that is proposed doesn't and cannot do that. Think about it. You talking about something that's on a swivel, moving 9.8 m/second squared, and hitting an object that does not move. To slow the head down from the time the helmet makes contact with the ground is the equivalent of pulling your parachute 50 feet before you hit the ground. It's just not going to make a big difference. I think we can improve helmets, but preventing concussions just isn't possible unless we place kids heads in some type of gyroscope where gravity is used against itself. I do also believe, and discussion with the KMA and the KHSAA, is the over diagnosis of concussions to kids who don't have a concussion. Better education is a must in the medical field as well as at home.

Which is, unfortunately, not really possible. This is physics at it's finest. Unless the brain is placed in situation where speed and acceleration are no longer existent, then the brain continues to travel at the same speed the head is traveling until it meets a force that brings it to stop (skull). That's why helmet technology is great and can help, but can't prevent. As Ram said earlier, the tough part is the head in contact with the ground. The worst concussions I've seen are head to ground contact, not nearly as often with helmet to helmet. You just don't see the velocity issues with head to head as you do head to ground. The whole immoveable object part of the equation. But I am in favor of any resource that helps in recovery and prevention.

I'm also fairly certain that both basketball coaches live in Taylor and Adair respectively. Someone correct me if I am wrong on this one.

I created this account because I knew this would hit sooner rather than later and after talking with Chris Thursday night and knowing he was going to meet with the kids Friday, I figured someone who actually knows should and was on staff should post and put the truth out there before little man and his supporters spread their propaganda. And it will happen, just wait and see what the who’s who of green co. begins posting. But understand, this is the reality and only post I will make. Take it or leave it, I have no axe to grind. I coached with both Mike and Chris and can say without a doubt this was the good ole’ boy system at its best. Thursday Chris had a closed door meeting with the super, the principal and AD did not attend as they did not support what the super was doing. The super asked Chris if he was going to move to Green Co. this year and when Chris told him that it wasn’t an option at this time…he was forced to resign. The super knew this and used it knowing Chris couldn't just pack up and leave and especially if his job was in question after every tough season. I know when he won the job he told them that he could not move to Green for some time due to obligations he had in other arenas, and they knew that when they hired him. With that said, this was a few board members and a “little” problem that can’t stay away from the program that has stirred the pot enough with the super to make this change less than 2 years after they knew they needed to go in a completely different direction after Mike resigned during the DeSales game 2 seasons ago. The reality is that these kids played hard for Chris. They were held accountable as players for discipline, attendance, and their actions. Something that hadn’t happened before if you were a star player. Some will say the off-season program was non-existent. Not true. At GC we have strength and conditioning classes so Chris made workout books for every kid in the program, had the weight room open 4 days a week for 2 hours for kids who didn’t have strength class or didn’t play another sport, and also had it open 3 mornings a week at 6am for kids who played other sports or had to work. Chris attended all the home middle school games but one and traveled to several. He was at home little league games and interacted with the kids, rather than just standing up by the gate and watching from afar. He also brought up the 8th graders to play with the freshmore team to acclimate them to the program early. In short he was involved. He didn’t run the little program, that has been done by an assistant coach for years even though another will take credit where it is NOT due. I know in my conversations with the principal and AD that discipline was at a premium in the building with our football players and that had not happened before. The bottom line is Chris didn’t win enough games (7-12 and 0-2 playoffs). Won the same games as we did in Coach G’s last year (except we replaced Caldwell for Clinton) and from game 1 to the playoff game we made great improvements nearly beating Bardstown whom had beaten us by 35 to losing by a TD in the playoff game. This past season was odd, lost 8 players with season ending injuries, and had more than 20 total (cant recall the exact number, you lose count after a while). This was just one of those seasons we have every now and then. We have been trending toward this for years, winning one less game every year since the 11 win season. I know Chris was excited about the upcoming year. He had already started "optional" weights before Thanksgiving, was going to get to play his schedule, and this freshman group was his first real class. I certainly hope that whomever we hire next will get a fair and decent shake. A coach deserves that much. Having coached with both coaches, and having coached here for many years, they had different philosophies but both were very good. The district hired Chris to bring in discipline and accountability, and it was something that we as assistants wanted more than anything when we met with Chris in our first staff meeting. It’s a shame he won’t get to see the foundation he laid come to fruition. But with everything I have seen this year in high school football we are trending toward a “win or you’re out” mentality. We will probably win 7-8 ball games next year as nearly everyone returns and the 6 starters we lost during an injury plagued season will be back. Some will get on here and bash Chris, I know he doesn’t concern himself with it, but I think it’s only fair that someone from the inside give an actual account versus those who will draft lies to defame people. Heard this a few days ago. He had the full support of the principal and AD, but because he wasn't willing to move there the super forced his resignation. Par for the course with 5th region schools. I got this from a current Coach on staff.

Duncan would be a good hire. But he didn't raise a family as a head coach. Zipp and Dre and his daughter graduated from schools where he was an assistant. He didn't become a head coach until his son Christian was going in to high school and he left for Logan shortly after. There are also head coaches who have won and won't get hired by another school because they lack character and decency. There has to be both in my opinion. I do believe Duncan has both going for him.

But didn't he leave Murray to go to Logan to be near and coach with his sons? I thought I heard that at some point. Two of them are in the BG area I think. I could be off, but thought I had heard that along the way. I do agree that he would be a homerun. Wonder if the super has forgotten he took his son over to their rival Etown, after he didn't get the job over Armes? I think he would be a great choice though.

They are part of his teaching position. The Life Connection is a group home and the teachers there go in over the breaks. Quite a few days, but I can't recall the exact number. Deep down though Josh is a coach, I can see him possibly applying at a few openings or joining a local staff. I hate this for him so close to Christmas...I know it has affected him.

My guess is the super would go after a retired coach, one where a job isn't necessary. Speculation of course, but a few local schools have done so and he maybe thinking along the same lines.

Where is he going? Still at LCHS right. Oh, and I never swear. They won't put another head coach in his cushy spot, it's not in the building. It's miles from the high school and the super hated him being there instead of in the building. Sure they could stick him anywhere, but with him being as far from the building as he can possibly be, he's now where they would want him. Several former coaches already teach out there. I have all the inside info from all but one guy, and I cannot fathom what he was thinking. I do know him very well, but even this is a bit irrational. With all his extended days and what he makes, he won't be a lunchroom monitor, that's for sure! Lol

Only positions he is certified to teach, and there are zero open nor anticipated. He's gonna stay in that cushy job as long as he wants.

He's tenured and has a sweet teaching gig...unless he chooses, he's not going anywhere.

Josh is first class and I know didn't see this coming. Neither did the principal and AD. The Hawks are set for the next 3 years and have the talent in place for success. Bad part is whomever they bring in will look like Lombardi and the super will be able to say see, I told you we needed a change. That really is a shame. I am VERY close to this school and Josh and can say I am disappointed. Loyalty used to matter, it used the be the fabric of trust and stability..just a dang shame that we are seeing a trend in this state when the pay is often less than 15% of the teaching pay. I understand if coaches are making a livable salary to coach, but this is KY. We are 20 years behind TX, FL, LA, GA, SC, AL, AR...etc. This should be about the kids. I could understand if he got a DUI, or his 3rd DUI and was off to the penn, or if he screwed a kid, but clearly that DIDNT happen. Loyalty mean squat anymore and a handshake is a fools contract. Before long you will have programs that have vacancies that wont be filled, and that's not good for anyone. Josh will be fine. Josh will move on. LaRue will be fine. LaRue will move on. It's just a shame they couldn't move along together. Keep your head up brother...let's go play golf and forget coaching!

Colleges and the NFL don't stress tackling enough...it is far more emphasized in most high school programs vs the next 2 levels. It's a lost art folks!

Read a study years ago that indicated more concussions came via head contact to ground than head to head. Will try to find that article.

Head shots in a solid game of monkey in the middle, jumping ramps with your bike...etc. Also, this just in. Too much exposer to the sun can cause cancer. Better not ever go outside. Yet, beaches are packed. Point of my rant? Every sport has head injury capability, but we still sign our kids up to play. Ever seen a hard charge in basketball, kid get undercut on a lap up, two kids collide in soccer, heading a ball that is going 40 MPH in soccer? Those are shots that affect the brain...but let's pick on football, a sport that is actually trying to protect it's players. When soccer and basketball comes out with a helmet that is mandatory, then I will buy into the fact that we are really concerned with the brain health of our kids.

Oh...this one is a doozy! Let's keep in mind that Gabe Stone's dad (Stone was the QB at the time) was developing homes at the time in Nelson Co, and if I recall, a pair of REALLY good athletes were able to transfer from Bardstown and move into Nelson's district, therefore eligible. The Boggs brothers were UNREAL (Anthony maybe one of the best that ever stepped on EKU's campus, that never panned out according to a friend of mine that coached there at the time)! Just coincidence though I am sure that they were able to move into the county. LOL. They also came into a really good crop of kids to go with them, and a great coaching staff. They were good for several years there during and after Coach Brown.
