  1. Pretty sure Taylor won this last year too. LaRue is starting a ton of young kids, and are improving weekly. LaRue had a kick off return called back and was in this til the end. Good win for the cards, but lets see how the next 4 weeks go, I will wait til then to see how this fiasco plays out.
  2. The smell of the fresh cut grass, the feel of the lights on Friday night, and tailgating with old friends.
  3. Having watched Graves play this year I was a little disappointed. I guess my expectations were a little too large for them after last season. Mayfield by as many as they wanna score.
  4. Gotcha there Lion...just don't understand why it's Cow Days...what's the significance of the Cow celebration?? Did Aaron and Moses stop in with a golden calf?? :woot:
  5. He's a stud...deserves everything he gets. Love the fact that he plays for his local school instead of opting to try and go somewhere else to "win the big one". Gonna have a tough decision on where to attend college.
  6. Boyle wins easily, but I have always thought GRC looks like a small college team when they get off the bus!
  7. With Griff, it is what it is. Coach Gupton would tell you how things really went down...but that isn't important. Here is the roster from that 8th grade year for KY. There are 3 kids from Green Co. not 6. 2013 future stars: 8th grade Offensive Line / Defensive Line Jaden Washington Will Bischoff Jedrick Wills Michael Clark Xavier Douglas Dominick Williams Wendell Stewart Marquellis Tutt Brendan Sullivan Mathew Holder Cole Spencer Anthony Timmering Steven Franklin Durwood Forrest Carter Hayslett John Page Quarterbacks Dessi Austin Walker Wood Tight End Andrew Davis Specialists Bryce Webb Jackson Wine Wide Receivers Jalen Mcfadden Quinten Brown Konnor Polson Trintin Ashburn Quinten Floyd Jaylon Carr Running Backs Kyree Hawkins Domonick Lewis Gregory Bethel Keegan Gassett Donald Smith Demonte Johnson Defensive Backs Quinton Hayden Jr Odell Smith Christian Babin Ethan Pierce Justin Richie Stephon Bullock Chauncey Greer Dylan Lee Rogers Linebackers Johnathan Ford Sa’von Brewer Nathan Collett Domynik Bell Alex Cima Isaac Marti
  8. Little off topic, but.... why is it cow days? Understand Lincoln days in Hodgenville and the bourbon festival in Bardstown...but what's with the cow? Option...can you enlighten me on the history on the festival?
  9. That group of sophomores had 3 kids in the all star game in the 8th grade. Brewer, Davis, Pierce. Davis and Brewer both were listed on the starting lineup vs LaRue according to the radio broadcast. However, I wanna be clear that I'm not trying to knock at Green...at all. I'm a big 5th region fan and think highly of GC and the AD over there...in fact most of the GC folks i know are great people, and the guys I work with are nuts about the place. Good luck to Dragon nation on Friday.
  10. You can disagree coach, but how many of those kids moved away that we're on that team?? Several. Look at the track program this coming season, and the fact that Hodge resigned, coaches don't get out when there is talent and I will be proven right this spring. Not the first time the former ball coach got out when there was a dip in talent, when talent goes back up in a few years see if he comes back. That isn't a secret in the 5th region, have heard that on several occasions. Those aren't coincidences. Not just at green. Brown at John Hardin, Armes at LaRue...etc. just part of it. Now Brown is back coaching at Etown...didnt retire long. I will also add that there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. In fact, probably a smart move and every guy has the right not to suffer through tough years if he doesn't want to. Middle school all star games mean zilch...especially when several of the coaches were green co. coaches. I had several kids play on that team and they were not my best players, but could afford to go. Talent does change at small county schools to say differently is a homer mentality and a way for the former coach to stroke his ego. Jagger's was a stud...he would have started at 100 schools in the state to say different is to say that a 4.5 40 yd dash isn't welcome in other schools. Speed is a commodity that is not at green and isn't going to be there for a while. But enough about Green. Campbellsville is on an upswing and the Young kid is a stud and sought after by D1 schools with charlie strong stopping before he left for Texas. Locally nobody has a kid like him...nobody. Did they appeal the KHSAA to see if he could play? I hope to be able to see him play next week if I'm able to get down that way.
  11. I hope not fired. This has become a trend this season that is becoming a little reckless for high school football. Courier have a write up on it?
  12. I remember when they started this program when i lived near dry ridge. The way they did it was first class and they have been building on that ever since. Congrats to this young man.
  13. It is no secret in the area that the talent pool is down at Green and on the rise at cville, and in many cases coaches don't get out when the talent is at its highest. The speed Green has been used to isn't there and will be especially noticeable come track season. Lets face it, speed kills and has been in the GC backfield for years...but not this year from what I have heard from those who have seen them play. Perhaps I have bad info. Good luck to both teams...how long has this game been played as a bowl? Is it always played at GC?
  14. I also think it's fair to point out that Barren may not be as bad as the tradition dictates. I was at the Barren/Glasgow game and they look like a team now with a little confidence and swagger. We all know that in HS football confidence (lack of or lots of it) can make a HUGE difference in how a team CAN play. I'm just glad to see their coach seeing some fruits of his labors...that is a really tough place to be a football coach. This game could have gone either way and if it were played 10 times I bet the teams would split. Barren has kids that have been in the system now for several years and perhaps even culture is starting to move in the right direction. Monroe has the tradition, but lets face it, when you have some of the injuries they have had up front, it can shake a team. The oline works on continuity, its not really a plug and play type of unit like some other positions. Monroe has an outstanding staff and community and with the current Junior group, they will find a way down the stretch to return to form. I honestly believe that!
  15. Both teams are young/inexperienced but have a ton of heart and fight. This was a dog fight and I bet a fun one from the stands and hear on the radio. LaRue will be REALLY good over the next 2 years...Green is rebuilding with a solid Junior/Soph group but lacks experience where it matters but have a dandy middle school group coming up. LaRue is young and Green is on running back number 3 (couple of season ending injuries in the backfield) for the season with a Soph. taking the work load. I would wager these teams would have split if you played it 10 times.
  16. Which would be ok if the pay were commensurate! However, when Sheldon Clark and Taylor Co. both get left without coaches and NO coach wants to go there, then they will reap what they have sewn. What coach will want either of those jobs in a year when they are vacant?
  17. Nothing...and their basketball team is under a full investigation by the KHSAA for recruiting violations.
  18. Brian Miller, former Lincoln County player I believe...I played with him for a few springs in college(long story on why he never made it to fall camp) but he's as close as I have ever seen. Legit world class speed. I mean Olympic type speed is 4.3...Nobody in KY is running that right now and hasn't in a LONG time. Tyson Gay type speed people.
  19. Actually Ram, they don't handle heat as well: According to the APA: There are quite a few basic differences in the chemical makeup of children that make it harder for them to regulate body temperature than adults. 1. Children have more body surface area than body weight, so when the outside temperature is higher than body temperature, children tend to gain heat faster than adults. Don’t let their smaller size deceive you. 2. During exercise, children generate up to 20% to 25% more heat for their body weight than adults. Youngsters’ higher metabolic rates also contribute to the higher amounts of heat that kids can generate with exercise and activities. 3. Movements that are unrefined and inefficient produce more heat in kids than older athletes who have mastered their techniques and have more smooth movements. 4. The amount of blood pumped during exercise is less in children than adults, so there is less ability to move heat to the skin to give off heat. 5. Children have immature sweating mechanisms and also sweat less than adults, so they have less ability to get rid of heat by evaporation of sweat. They do not have as many sweat glands, and those sweat glands are not as efficient as adults. Getting sunburned also decreases the ability of the sweat glands to perform, so wearing sunscreen is a must (in addition to protecting their skin from premature aging and skin cancer). 6. Children adjust to the heat more slowly, so it will take longer for them to get used to summer temperatures and humidity than adults. This process of adaptation is called acclimatization. This ability to adapt is what allows your Baby Bear not to get too hot or too cold, but to be just right. 7. Core body temperature in children rises higher and more quickly with dehydration, so it is even more important to provide drink breaks for young active children. The thirst drive in a child is not as good as an adult’s thirst drive, so taking frequent breaks to drink fluids should be mandatory. 8. Children who are overweight are even more at risk for heat illness because extra weight can compound most of these problems. They have to generate more heat to move the larger body mass, it is harder to give off heat (so they retain more heat), and they adjust even more slowly to the heat. I don't disagree with the acclimation statement though, with that said people don't walk down the street in football gear either..lol. But it would make walking down the sidewalk interesting!! You tube videos would be interesting with amazing sidewalk hits!!
  20. I will say this, high school football does a fair job with heat...but the youth leagues need regulation more than any other group (the younger the player the tougher time their bodies have regulating heat). That is the group that is most concerning, heat delay in high school football and out in front of the school the youth team was full gear full go!
