  1. Perry still ranks as one of, if not, the best coach in the region. That being said, McCowan should have gotten more touches in the 4th quarter. West Carter could do very little to stop him in the paint other than collapse and foul. He dominated the first 2 1/2 quarters.
  2. Sounds like Ashland pulled out a tough one. Great season for Rose Hill. I noticed in the paper Ashland shot 42 free throws. Why the complaints from Cats fans? hit a decent percentage and you win by a bunch.
  3. Good win for Elliott. Ferguson had 24 and Evan Faulkner 22. Elliott's press really took east out of the game and Elliott controlled the boards. Ferguson had a monster game inside and Evan Faulkner hit 3-4 three-pointers including two in a row from the corner that sealed the game. Burge tried to take over for East late in the game and hit some big shots. Elliott-West should be a good game. Elliott has beaten them twice this year, but I look for West to play the same good defense that they did against Morgan County. Both teams may suffer a little of a let down after highly charged wins. By the way, the officials called about the same as they have all season. I thought the youngest one may have been in a little over his head.
  4. Hampton proves once again why he is one of the best. I heard he got a technical late in the game. For him to get that fired up at that stage...that call must have been rough.
  5. I think Fairview should be the favorite, but Owens has enough talent to take apart anybody single-handidly if he is on his game.
  6. I think the big upset will help get Elliott's attention. East plays some of the best defense in the Region. They are well coached and have a big advantage in experience. Elliott is much better at putting the ball in the hole, an area where East truly struggles. I look for a game that is decided in the last couple of minutes.
  7. McGlone put in a great game plan and his players executed to perfection, only committing 4 turnovers. Jones simply took over offensively and defensively. Barker played an excellent floor game. McGowan was unstoppable early, but inexplicably, Morgan County completely quit trying to get him the ball in the last five minutes. Great win for the Comets and Coach McGlone.
  8. Look at Ashland's record in their last 7 games, plus their record within the region. They are hot right now. I also think Russell is starting to play well and Morgan has played tough all season. Fairview, Boyd and Elliott have slid a little, but will still be tough outs for somebody.
  9. Morgan County has one of the few coaches in our area that can keep his team focused on winning one at a time regardless of how much they are favored by. West Carter is a decent team that got a very bad draw. Morgan by 15-20.
  10. Owens just is a little better athlete and carries his team out of necessity. He gets my vote, although Vanhoose and McGowan can each make a good argument.
  11. Elliott and East will be a battle as always and Morgan may play a little over confident against West. I fully expect very competitive games in the 1st Round and no result would be truly surprising.
  12. I thought Ferguson had an excellent game for Elliott but Sparks was outstanding for Raceland. I'll never figure out why Mays puts his worst defender on some of the best players in the region. The foul count had a lot to do with Elliott's penetration on offense and pretty good defensive blocking out on the boards, as well as Raceland having to foul at the end of the game.
  13. Not in this fight...but how can RH blame Ashland for RH's Athletic Director and coach not being aware of the tournament schedule and the KHSAA rules?
  14. Stockton was much more impressive than Owens in high school. I'm always in favor of 16th Region kids getting a chance, but this is a reach.
  15. Seems to be a very accurate poll. Arguments can be made to move a team a place or two any time. Any team in this region is capable of beating any other. That is what makes these polls so fun to talk about.
  16. Congratulations to fairview for beating Elliott and congratulations to Elliott's staff for not making a bone-headed decision in playing the three varsity starters.
  17. Mayo will go farther. He has a good head for the game. Walker will need time to develop a jumper in college.
  18. Tough year for Hampton and his kids. I condsider him one of the top three coaches in the region but there just isn't much talent there to work with, and there doesn't seem to be much coming up.
  19. Very few, if any, officials are quick enough to determine on the spur of the moment how to make a call that will adversely effect one team on purpose. It happens too fast to go through that thought process. Some officials are just consistently bad, some are consistently good, and the vast majority fall somewhere in the middle just like in any other profession. Good teams adjust. Bad teams whine and generally lose.
  20. Somebody finally found a legitimate use for the Cantrall ratings.
  21. If Elliott plays the Faulkners or Ferguson, the coach should be checked out by a shrink. Why risk injury to a varsity starter with only 4 games left in the regular season? Elliott has a chance in the post season, but cannot afford to lose any of those three kids. They play the most minutes and are the three leading scorers. The freshman tournament is meaningless and from looking at the brackets the home team has set itself up to reach the finals. That is not a criticism. In fact, it is probably a smart move.
  22. Rowan and Ashland in? Boyd and Elliott out? Cantrell once again proves his knowledge of the 16th.
  23. Nets, Elliott is playing pretty good right now, but I don't think they will get many votes for being #1.
