Should there be no district tournaments?
BogeyMan replied to Tubby's Best Friend's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Sorry TBF. I usually agree with you, but not this time. The Districts are here to stay. If you there is whining now, wait until the coaches get together to determine seeding for a regional. The politics would make our regular elections for office look tame. This would only be another way for the bigger schools to perpetuate their dominance.I'm afraid your Ramblers would suffer greatly in the near future due to the coach's great popularity among his peers. It would not befair to the kids to have their fate determined by the coach's ability to play politics. -
Elliott led 40-28 at halftime and was nevr really threatened. Fairview hit some quick threes at the end to set the final score. I am really looking forward to some exciting games in the 62nd District Tournament. Elliott's schedule continues to get tougher as the season winds down, but they seem to continue to find ways to win.

The loss to Bath was very early in the season with a team starting three freshmen. It is obvious those freshmen continue to grow and improve as the season goes along. The Dow Jones comment is pretty stale at this point in the season. They are playing pretty well.

Fairview At Elliott County
BogeyMan replied to thewalrus's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Fairview has to be the favorite after pounding Elliott in the All-A. They have size and experience on the Lions. But... if Weddington comes to play and the freshmen get hot, anything can happen. -
I hope any player gets in the 16th gets any basketball scholarship. If he gets it I'll support him 100 per cent. My post was simply my opinion on the level of talent in our region.

Elliott County 67 Morgan County 65

Absolutely! :ylsuper: -
I am sorry, but no upperclassman in the 16th Region is high D-1 caliber. Owens may be the closest talent-wise, but he is not a great outside shooter and apparently has an attitude problem. I predict he will play mid-major somewhere. There are some mighty fine 8th, 9th and 10th graders in our region who may get a shot down the road if they continue developing and get some exposure.

Elliott's schedule is not all that weak. Morgan on the road, Boyd at home Fairview on the road and at a neutral site. West Carter is not a slouch this year and Elliott beat them on the road and at a neutral site. They also beat Greenup in the Raceland touornament. The Bath County loss was ridiculous, but 17-4 aint bad against a schedule that is similiar to most teams in their District.

Morgan/Lewis 2-03-06Thoughts and/or predictions
BogeyMan replied to BigCat23's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Morgan will be mad and ready to play and Lewis has far less talent than in many years. Recipe for a blowout. -
East Carter 48 West Carter 38
BogeyMan replied to Cubster's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Amazing turnaround from West's 54-30 rout of East at Grayson. When those two play anything can happen. -
Good poll, but after Elliott beats Morgan and goes to 2-2 against the top three, maybe next week we will see them move ahead of Russell who struggled with a week Lewis County team this week.

Allen Central 64 Sheldon Clark 58 15th All A
BogeyMan replied to Crazed 15th's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
After watching Allen Central play Elliott County a close game, it was clear that they were a much better team than their record indicated. Nice win. -
Elliott County 67 Morgan County 65

Elliott shot well, took care of the ball, for the most part, and got a huge win in a game that could have gone either way. Starting three freshmen has led to some inconsistency, but they keep on winning. The 62nd District Tournament will certainly be fun to watch. By the way, it is interesting that Elliott is now 2-2 against the recognized top three teams in the region. -
Owens cannot be stopped unless he stops himself through poor shot selection or foul trouble. However, Boyd appears to be weak at the other positions and not deep on the bench. That being said, I haven't seen anything from Ashland this year to make me think they will pull an upset at Boyd. Maybe if Flynn goes back to holding the ball...

Fairview 78 Elliott County 48
BogeyMan replied to Fastbreak's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
If Fairview continues to play like they did against Elliott they could make some noise. Elliott didn't shoot well and seemed to play selfishly, but the way fairview took care of business it would not have mattered if Elliott had played a good game. The score might have been closer but the result would have been the same. -
That gym does not hold 1100 people. If a larger gym could be found at a reasonable rental fee it should be done. However, as it stands, the schools rotate hosting the Class A. It was Fairview's turn and they probably did the best they could. No one expected the large Rose Hill crowd for the girl's game to stick around for the boy's game. It should have been anticipated because many thought it would be an exciting game. Those that had to leave should be happy. Fairview played extremely well and blew out an Elliott County team that suddenly became very selfish.

I'm sorry. I always consider Ashland a big threat to win the region, not a sleeper, regardless of their record.

Anybody that can stop Owens will beat Boyd County. Morgan plays good team defense and moves the ball well on offense. They should win this one at home.

Elliott County 90 Rose Hill 81
BogeyMan replied to Fastbreak's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Agreed. Elliott and Rose Hill will have some monumental battles over the next three years. That being said, the larger schools will still have larger pools of kids to draw from and will remain contenders every year. -
Menifee has played very well in some close losses lately. Fairview is still a clear favorite playing at home Saturday night. They have a huge size advantage. Elliott will have to force the tempo, get rebounding position, and make some shots to win.

Fairview is one of the top three teams in the region. Sleepers--Elliott County, West Carter, Rowan County.

Elliott County 90 Rose Hill 81
BogeyMan replied to Fastbreak's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Euton played but seemingly couldn't make a shot. Rose Hill is extremely talented and only lacks experience. These two teams will be fun to watch over the next few years. -
Elliott played a solid team game from start to finish for the first time in a couple of weeks. Ferguson found his shot and Weddington did a good job in disrupting Jone's offense. The game was called pretty well. I thinl many teams try to get overly physical with Elliott due to Elliott starting three Freshmen and when this happens, more fouls are naturally called. Addionally Elliott proved to be quicker than West resulting in West committing many holding and pushing fouls.
