These two split two games last year, each winning at their own gym. LexCath lost in to two overtimes at Mason. LexCath is significantly improved with the addition of Vee Sanford. LexCath already has a signature win over then #9 Chicago Simeon in the Hoopsfest this year. Simeon had a 6-8 inside player who was a commit to Illinois. They were very quick and athletic. LexCath does have a couple losses but wins at CovCath are hard to come by. The loss to a Fl. team is difficult to explain.

Mason County will have more fans there I'm sure. If the officials are influenced by the crowd (I don't think they will be), the game will favor Mason. LexCath hasn't played well against their last two opponents. I hope I'm right in feeling they were going through the motions in preparation for tonights game.

I don't see Mason being able to contend with the LexCath inside game. Mason will win it if they can make their outside shots. LexCath needs to play to their strength, Novosel and Taylor on the inside plus Sanford slashing to the basket. Catholic has a better inside game and this combined with the outside shooting of Smart adds up to about a ten point win. The main stumbling block for LexCath as I see it is that this group has not won such an important game to date, hopefully this will be a prelude to bigger things.

A lot of those people come early and stay late. There is a high percentage of basketball junkies there and they only watch except for the outstanding play when they may clap. Elliott County had by far the loudest crowd of the four games I saw. Mason probably had the biggest number of fans.

I love the small school story but think CovCath bursts the balloon today.

Elliott possibly could beat anyone in the state on a given night. I was very impressed with them. I was more impressed with Mason County and their ability to win by thirty on a night when I'm sure they played very badly. In two more games I think Mason will win handily because of their depth and size advantage.

I agree on the balance issue but I don't see anyone other than the top three being able to do well in the Sweet Sixteen and none of those would be my favorite over Mason County, Covcath or even UHA at this time. The 5/3 should clear some of this up.

The 11th has no dominate team like last year's Scott County. Early on the best appears to be LexCath who already has lost at CovCath. All the region teams have suffered multiple losses except for Bryan Station. The 11th is a strong region but not up to last year. Only LexCath and maybe Bryan Station seem improved and the rest are weaker. The 11th may be the strongest but it is hard to support this statement at the current time.

Of the teams I saw in person:Louisville X., Trinity, and Highlands. I think LexCath may have been able to better hang with X if it wasn't for Deuce Finch. He was a one man wrecking ball the night we played him.

Maryland may be an exception but it is obvious from the scores that most states have the publics and privates playing together.

The relatively slow pace seems to be helping JBS. Last nights game against tates creek seems to have given LexcCath tired legs.

LexCath has improved a bunch since last year and will win by 20+.

I think it will be closer if Clay County has the homecourt advantage they once had. Scott County lost a lot from last year and no one seems to think they will be missed. I suspect they will be in the 11th region if not this weekend.

Agreed. I love Corvin's game. He is a real garbage man who dives for loose balls and fights for rebounds like no one else on the team.

I believe this was Simeons' first game so I can see why they would be easily rattled against a team like LexCath.

LexCath's strength defensively all year has been their ability to pressure the passer. Most teams are able to counteract this by running the ball effectively. When I saw that lone Oak passes 90% of the time I thought this might be a blowout. If LO could have delayed the rush somehow, they could have given us fits since our secondary wasn't as strong as recent years. In other words, Lone Oak had the perfect scheme for a blowout by the LexCath defensive strength.

Highlands is a pretty clear cut number three in my book. Congrats to Trinity on your surprising win over X.

LexCath scrimmaged and lost to Trinity and played St. X. and Highlands during the regular season. Highlands doesn't have the depth or talent of the other two but could win on a given night. Highlands is a competitive three.

What about on air broadcasts in Louisville? What statiopn carries the game?

I don't follow Highlands that closely but from an outsiders view, I would say the '98 team was much more dominate than this years version. They destroyed teams whereas this years team won solidly. Congratulations on another great championship.

I agree the announcers seemed to favor LCA, but I liked their enthusiasm. Reminded me of Dukie V. I do think that Beechwood might not like this and that would be understandable but at least they get to go home with the win.

I would love to have Revere this week. But we don't and we'll have to make do. The LexCath Dbs are going to be tested in a way they haven't been to date. Robinson releases the ball very quickly which may negate the defenses main weapon, the sack. I think it will be a close game for the first half with neither team being able to stop the other. The LexCath depth should come into play in the second half. The pass rush should also be more effective then.
