  1. Guyn is an irresistible force when it comes to attacking the basket but he needs to develop his ball handling and control his energy better. When this happens watch out! Probably the best underclassman in Central Kentucky right now. UB, I agree that Tribble needs to quit getting into traps and he did so after losing the ball on two consecutive trips up court. Played solid after that. I think he will be one of the most important players for Catholic tonight. His energy matches that of Guyn and no one has more heart. He pushes the Catholic offense but will need to recognize the BS Defender that is always back when an attempt at a fast-break occurs.
  2. Catholic could win by double digits if they take care of the ball and force a half court game. BS could do the same if they can create a tempo that is too fast for the Knights. If the game is close late, I like Catholic's chances.
  3. Dunbar reduced their margin of loss against Catholic from thirty at Dunbar to nine in the District finals. Dunbar is playing very well and has the quickness and height to beat Bryan Station if BS isn't at the top of their game. It also is difficult to beat a team three times in a row. I'll go with Dunbar.
  4. I'll go with the Sweet Sixteen. The first round of it and the 11th will have blowouts but things tighten after that. I'm not sure about the top three 11th teams being among the top five teams in the state. There hasn't been enough interplay with the other 16 regions especially the West. I would be surprised if the 11th region champion wins the Sweet Sixteen. I would say they should be the favorite but beyond that you are getting on thin ice.
  5. Trust me on this UB, LexCath needs to go to their strength inside against BS. If we try to run with them we are playing to their strength.
  6. If Bryan Station plays Dunbar in the semi-finals, they will be up against a team as quick and slightly taller than they are. Don't bet the house on Station yet.
  7. It was a draw. I don't understand your thinking. Can you elaborate? Not the math but who would play each other if the process was seeded.
  8. LexCath and Scott County have to play each other most likely in the semis, while Bryan Station gets the Madison Central/ Dunbar winner. Neither is easy but I like the BS route better. Dunbar does match up better with BS than SC or LexCath so it could be hard for BS.
  9. Looks like Bryan Station got the easiest route to the finals among the top three. Congratulations.
  10. So did Bryan Station create havoc with their defense tonight? The one time I saw these two play, SC handled the BS pressure very well, then killed BS inside.
  11. They were announcing the scores at the LexCath game and it seemed that Bryan Station extended the lead steadily every quarter.
  12. Tourney MVP Nathan Novosel scored 29 points along with 15 rebounds to lead the Knights over a very tough Bulldog squad. The regular season games were both blowouts but Dunbar came to play tonight. Vee Sanford got in foul trouble getting his second two minutes into the game so he sat out the rest of the first half. The Bulldogs led by one after a quarter and trailed by one at the half. The dogs played very tough defense and banged the boards. The Knights got untracked in the third quarter when Taylor Stewart started scoring along with Sanford. The game was still close until late in the fourth quarter when the Knights finally got a double digit lead with two or so minutes left. The bulldogs still battled to within five before Catholic won at the free throw line.
  13. This is a terrible loss. As for our tourney hopes, why not wait and see how things develop? It won't be the first time a team comes together after a big loss and pulls off a few surprises. Back in my playing days a half century ago, I had a big metamorphisis when a starter went down and I realized I would have to step up. Maybe one or more of the group of Stephenson, Stewart, Harris and Carter will begin to play more like a starter. It doesn't hurt to be optimistic. My main concern is that the teamwork that Gillespie has so painstakingly developed will disintegrate.
  14. I voted other. I'm a homer and I picked Taylor Stewart of LexCath. He has a good inside and medium range game. He gives 100 percent all the time unlike the two top runners. I didn't look at stats but think he is in the ballpark with the top two. He's committed to Air Force so he is D-1. If his team makes it to Rupp, I'm sure it will be on his shoulders.
  15. The strong 11th region loses it's glitter once the regional tourney is over. I can see a Madison Central winning the region and losing badly in the first round to UHA. If this were to happen I can see UHA going all the way. A player like Hopson can win the day on Saturday ala Antoine Barbour of E-town a few years ago. The team with the best conditioned athletes usually wins on Saturday because of playing two strenuous games. That would favor UHA/11th winner or Mason County.
  16. Teams are too evenly matched for Mason to win twice in a row. Disappointment on senior night.
  17. This was a big surprise to me. LexCath led by nine after the first quarter, SC led by nine at the half, LexCath led by nine after three quarters. SC tied it up at 66. Vee Sanford made 4 free throws and stole the ball to end it. SC did a good job of stopping the LC inside game but Jordan Smart made a couple threes to really get the momentum back after the half. Guyn fouled out for SC and all the other important players for both sides had four fouls at the end. There were missed calls both ways but the officiating was pretty even I thought.
  18. I think LexCath has an edge in the starting five but Scott County is deeper. The SC homecourt advantage is the best I've ever experienced. SC needs to get LexCath into foul trouble and probably will. I think LC is slightly better but SC will probably win by around ten points. My view is colored by seeing SC in person against Bryan Station when they were simply awesome.
  19. I saw Elliott play twice in the 5/3 and they don't seem to be in Mason's league in quickness. Elliott does have one edge and that is their teamwork. They are very familiar with each other but not enough to overcome Mason's edge in athleticism. The Mason bench will destroy Elliott if fouls become an issue. I have no love for Mason but do respect their program. This is Elliott's cinderella year, but if they beat Mason at the Fieldhouse it would rank as a major upset. Good luck.
  20. Madison Central always seems to play LexCath tough but this year I predict a ten point win for LexCath.
  21. I can't think of a single factor that favors Elliott against Mason. Mason has the edge in shooting (slight maybe) rebounding, coaching, home court, big game experience, quickness, and bench among others. Why would Elliott win this game?
  22. Did they use peach baskets for goals and have center jumps after every basket?
  23. Phares has the most efficient game I've seen this year. No flash, just solid good leaper, who passes well and plays within himself. He never seems to take a bad shot. He may not have the talent of a Darius Miller or Hopson but I would pick him above these two as a high school player this year.
  24. Eta Rho, Holmes looks like a good team and may belong with the top four but how can one say? You place a lot of weight on a Holmes overtime win over CovCath who beat LexCath in a close one in the first game of the season. A lot has happened since then. The top four have intermingled and only the amazing Kreskin could sort them out. Holmes isn't in this group yet and may be above or below it, my guess is below.
