The most recent BGP pole has seven 11th region teams in the top 20

 

#3 Lexington Catholic - 7 wins 2 losses..... The Knights have had a tough early season schedule that will prepare them for an even tougher road ahead. Have beaten everyone in their district and a highly rated Chicago team. Also played out of state competition in Vegas. Only losses are to Cov Cath (on the road) and an out of state team Boyd Anderson.

 

#4 Scott County 7 wins 4 losses.......Scott Co. scheduled very tough early. Scheduled alot of stiff out of state competition . Record would be better if Mackey was still with the team. They have 3 out of state losses, a loss to Ballard, and 3 out of state wins. The early season schedule will serve the Cardinals well, as they will be ready for the best in KY.

 

#6 Bryan Station 8 wins 1 loss.......Lost to #1 Mason Co. 84-71. Beat #13 Henry Clay twice handily, and came back to beat a very fast #16 Dunbar team . Station is very good.

 

#13 Henry Clay 6 wins 2 losses ......Blown out by Bryan Station twice, beat a highly pre season rated Dupont Manual.

 

#14 Madison Central 5 wins 3 losses....... Have not beaten a top 20 twenty team. Losses to GRC, J Town, and Corbin(W/O their stud). Missing key player Keshawn Simpson. Will need to get him back to get back on track with the success they have had the last two years.

 

#16 Paul Dunbar 7 wins 2 losses.....No top 20 wins. Beaten handily by Lex Cath. Lost a big lead and were beaten in a tough one to Bryan Station. This team is very fast and should never be underestimated.

 

#19 Tates Creek 4 wins 4 losses.......Lost to three top 20 teams and a very good Paintsville team. Played Mason Co. tough. Difficult early season schedule, but are not having the success they had last year as they graduated several seniors.

 

There are several other decent 11th region teams, but must prove themselves against the above seven to get any mention.

The 11th has no dominate team like last year's Scott County. Early on the best appears to be LexCath who already has lost at CovCath. All the region teams have suffered multiple losses except for Bryan Station. The 11th is a strong region but not up to last year. Only LexCath and maybe Bryan Station seem improved and the rest are weaker. The 11th may be the strongest but it is hard to support this statement at the current time.

The 11th has no dominate team like last year's Scott County. Early on the best appears to be LexCath who already has lost at CovCath. I decided to hop on the KHSAA scoreboard to add some facts to my opinion. Here's what I found.

 

* Woodford is 9-2 with both losses coming to other 11th region schools. No one ever mentions this school.

* Bryan Station is 8-1 with the loss being to Mason Co.

* Franklin Co. is 7-1 with the one loss being to a team from TN. Again, no one is talking about them - because they are in the 11th IMO

* Lex Cath is 7-2 with losses to Cov Cath and a team from Florida.

* Dunbar is 7-2 with both losses being to other 11th region schools.

* Western Hills is 7-3 - no one talking about them.

* Scott Co. is 7-4 and playing the toughest schedule in the state.

* Henry Clay is 6-2 with both losses coming to other 11th region schools.

* Sayre is 6-4 :thumb:

* LCA is 5-2 with both losses coming to other 11th region schools

* Madison Central is struggling, but has a solid win over Fairdale and everyone knows that they are dangerous.

* Tates Creek has wins over Ryle, Boyd Co., and they whipped my Indians (Montgomery Co.). They played Mason Co. very tough in the Mr. Basketball Classic. At Paintsville they were missing 2 starters to injury and still only lost by 1.

* Lafayette is off to a rough start, but 5 of their 7 losses are to other 11th region foes.

 

Other regions may have 2 or 3 teams that can compete with the top 25 calibur teams, but IMO the 11th is the one region where you see top competition almost every game. It's the depth of talented teams that make the region #1.

GRC beat them in the LCA tourney, and lost to them in OT the second game of the season.

This kind of makes my point... LCA is a middle of the road team in the 11th and they have split with the 2nd (or 3rd) best team in the 10th.

I agree on the balance issue but I don't see anyone other than the top three being able to do well in the Sweet Sixteen and none of those would be my favorite over Mason County, Covcath or even UHA at this time. The 5/3 should clear some of this up.

I agree that the top three are clearly better than the rest in the 11th.

You make a very vaild argument Plato, solid research, something a true history major like myself enjoys

They have to regroup after the 5/3. They played Cov. Cath and Desales without Hicks and Hall and the defense really suffered as much as the offense. Hicks was averaging in high double figures, and there is no replacement for his kind of athleticism especially on ball defense. Hall (21) is a scrapper, he hopefully will be healed up soon.

Is there any love for Scott County after all they did win it last year. They still have Tyler Portwood and Jordan Lee.
