(update of Russell #11 Nick Lewis) Heard from Nicks parents this evening. Nick's doctor visit went great. He is now conditonally released to do Cardio and tossing. And if there is no setbacks doing those things, the doctor will release him for full-contact next thursday in time for 1st round of playoffs. They would probably only use him on that Friday in an emergency and give him a week to get back into better game shape.

Just clicked on the forum and seen the news. Congratulations to you Laura. A fine young lady. I'm looking forward to watching you and the girls this year. Any news on how the team is shaping up for this year? With the loss of 3 starters, does anybody know who might step in to take their place?

This is my first trip to Fleming County, so when you speak of the visitor seating, can you compare it to any of our other district foes. In other words is it better or worse than : East Carter West Carter Lewis Co. thanks, and I look forward to seeing everybody at the game. Weather is predicted to be colder than normal.

I don't think so, but maybe I'm wrong. With Belfry at 4-1 in the district and Sheldon Clark 4-1 in the district wouldn't Belfry get the 2 seed because of head to head? If that is the case then if Middlesboro has the 1 seed because of its win over Breathitt, then Middleboro would host round Belfry in round 3 Also for the semi-state. I know that since this is an even year ('06') the even numbered region would host, which would make m'boro (region 4) hosting the game.

Nick goes back on monday for an updated x-ray. Will know more after that. He's of course hoping to get good news. He thinks it is feeling better. But xrays will tell for sure

Actually my son has told me from watching on film that they run a spread offense. That it is alot like the Tony Franklin offense. Well they run the offense but they have thrown in a few of their own plays. Although they have been known to go back to their own offense, you know the one with the fullback pass. At least thats what they did against Morgan.

I ask one of the players this exact question and they told me that Beekman is moving into Nick's spot and that Darrell Wells has stepped into the backfield. On Defense right now they are going to start with D. Bailey at corner, so we'll see how the changes work out starting tomorrow. ---On a side note concerning the intensity and leadership--- I know for us patrons observing from the sidelines it may seem like the intensity is not there on Friday nights, but you know part of that problem may also be OUR fault. We set there Friday after Friday year after year during the regular season expecting a win each week and so we just sit on our hands and watch the game like were watching a golf match, or a rerun on TV that we've seen a dozen times. Many times I've seen the players on the field, jumping up and down trying to get the fans in the game and we just do a polite "yeah" and sit back down. We fill the stands each week, but we make as much noise as if it were only 1/2 full or less. I know we have a weak district this year, but it still is 0 to 0 at 7:30 on Friday's. We need to bring our intensity with us and maybe we can show it to the players and they will in turn show it on the field. We better not save it for Louisville, because take away this years Ashland Game and we have not showed any enthusiam IMO since last year during the playoff run (Newport, Belfrey, O'cath).

Congrats to Kala. A super young lady. Her play in the state tournament was simply outstanding considering the injury that she had. On a side note, I heard that U of L has/or is scheduled to come see Laura Terry. Can anyone confirm that for me? That would be awesome to have 3 girls from that squad make d-1.

Have not heard any news of Jacob, but I did hear that Nick Lewis is going to miss the remainder of the regular season, but has a possibility of being back by the 1st or 2nd week of playoffs. Be interested to see what changes are made on defense/offense to replace these 2 guys

Absolutely. My son loves football, but he also has 2 younger brothers and taking a family vacation would be out of the question if no dead period exists. He also really enjoys the church camp our youth go on every year. He was going to have to miss it this year because of football, but got lucky and they moved the week to allow him to go. Keep the dead period AD's !!:banana:

Talked to Nick's parents on the way home from ER. Broken Collarbone. ER doctor told them from what he saw on the xray it was not a clean break but a fracture. They'll know more when he goes to an orthopedist, but the ER dr. thinks 4-6 weeks if he's lucky. The hit though was not on a kickoff, but on his next run from scrimmage after the touchdown. The WC player hit him and brought him down with Nick landing on his shoulder.

It is true. My understanding from someone pretty close at Raceland was that the AD's got together and agreed on a home/home arrangement for week 10 in 07', (I don't know what week in 08'). The AD from Raceland has signed and as of Monday was awaiting the contract back from the AD at Russell. (Note:) Just a comment about RD78's little rub about the away/away Ashland series Raceland has. My same source told me that after this contract with Ashland is up, the AD at Raceland told him that anymore with Ashland would have to be home/away contract. But I guess we'll see. But $9,000 to play at Ashland each year is hard to pass up.

Yeah, I talked to the snapper after the game and he said he asked the official if they would dry the ball off, but either the official refused or didn't hear him. So as soon as he put his hands on the ball it started slipping and he couldn't move it or face a penalty, so when he snapped it, it squirted out of his hand and barely made it to the holder. But then on the next touchdown, the reverse was opposite. He got a good snap back to the holder, but he dropped it. But was able to pick it up and run it in for the 2 pt conversion. Funny things happen when an oblong ball is wet and muddy :D

I agree, I hope his recovery goes well. Our prayers go out to him. But, as we seen last year in the state title game, we had a player step up to the challenge and fill the CB spot in one weeks time, when M. Horn went down during the belfrey game who not many people expected to do so well, so I'm sure that on that Russell team is someone who will take on this challenge and step in and perform as well in Jacob's absence. With adversity comes opportunity and I believe that our coaching staff with find that player(s) who will seize that opportunity.

Hey guys, don't forget a big part of the wing-t is the QB keeper and Jones makes a good person to have. Cordle although I am impressed with him, I just don't think is strong enough physically yet to take that varsity pounding week after week, plus from what I understand he came from a shot-gun style offense in ohio and is still learning all the details of the wing-t. I also think we shouldn't give up on Lewis(#11). Lewis from 2004 thru 2006 (Ashland) game has rushed for over 500 yds and 4 touchdowns, while breaking off some long runs as well. He has 91 yds and 1 touchdown this year while only carrying the ball 9 times. We all know what he can do in big game situations (i.e. State Champ game). I think the absence of our FB's from the last 2 years (Potter/Edwards) have hurt us more than our slot-runners (Lewis/beekman). If I was going to tinker with the offense at this point in the season, instead of AJ right now, I would move Sizemore to QB and have a backfield of Clark-RB, Jones-FB and Lewis/Beekman(Slot). AJ is a great kid, but I think a year of full-time JV (QB) and backup roles in Varsity will serve him better in the long run. But I have faith that Ivan and the staff will put the best ones they think will do the best for the team this year. They know a whole lot more than we do here on BGP.

I agree:thumb: Ivan has never been one to run up a score. I see 1-team offense / defense on 1st series of 2nd half and then reserves from there. I also agree about Coach Woods. Class act

I agree I don't think AJ is quite ready yet, but he is going to be a good one if he continue to improve. I really liked the Power-I that Russell came out with in the 2nd half. Wills(56) and Foster(53) did a great job in the backfield, but as someone said it does limit the options as to who gets the ball. An idea Ivan could try is something he used last year and that is have an extra jersey ready for either Wills or Foster to switch into. Both have played fullback in their early years and at least it would make the defense have to watch for somebody else. Just a thought.

I couldn't agree with you more. My son said that McDavid was talking trash all night long as well. It's typical friday night football with 2 teams going at each other , getting in each others ears, trying to get an edge. I also would like to make a comment about your earlier post #138. The snapper position is truly an underappreciated one. I could tell he was upset after the snap in regulation, but Kudos to him for coming right back and making 2 outstanding snaps in OT.

Same here J.B. - I was surprised it took until page 3 to mention this. Ashland's passing game would be severly hampered in these rainy conditons. On the other hand since Russell only throws about 3 -5 times a game (if that much!!) it would definetly swing the advantage to the wing-t and the grind it out football style of Ivan's Red Devils.

Hey Midee... Don't forget Nick Lewis (after all he did have 9 tackles against a pretty good O.Cath group of receivers. Besides Jones is a D. End and won't be sent into coverage very much.

Wow really expected Owensboro to be much more comptetive than that well maybe it was just an off day. Well keep practicing Owensboro hopefully get to see you in about 16 weeks roughly.

I think that Russell has some pretty nice uniforms. You cant tell me a big maroon wave coming at you isnt intimidating

I agree, the coaches did an excellent job of dividing up the roster. I thought the O-line did a nice job on both rosters. Wills and Gullett as always were good, but some others I thought played well also. Juniors Tobey Hicks and Adam Foster looked good at Tackle and Guard respectively. Cory Hall made a nice catch and run over the middle as the TE. I think the RB's will pick up where they left off with Jones, Lewis, Beekman and Clark making for a nice tandem of runners. Throw in a few play calls for Sizemore and we shouldn't be hurting for Offensive fire power this year. Defensively, I think Lewis proved that he can replace Horn on the one corner this year. As for the other corner, I'm sure Coach Morris will have talent to choose from to man that spot. With Sizemore and Clark roaming the secondary as well, the backfield looks pretty good. The D-line and 'backers will round into shape as well. I think overall it was a good first scrimmage for the fans. I;m sure the next 2 against S. Valley and C.Midland will provide a good test for the guys trying to win and keep spots for the upcoming season.
