Good game to see tonight, nip and tuck most of the way. There are a few more things that need to be done in the Fieldhouse, but the present upgrades have definitely given it a new feel.

I thought it was a fairly cleanly called game. No real head scratcher of calls throughout the course of the game. On the last play, I think the CCH hacking hard at the ball may have been the impetus for the call. Rather than a simple reach, it looked like a hard slap. From my view from behind the Holmes bench, it looked like his right arm stayed down. Anyways, you can't give up a putback in that situation. Heck Ruthsatz about hit the halfcourt shot at the horn. I was impressed with Ruthsatz on the offensive end, but he has a ways to go on defense. He looks for the strip too much and Palmer is not much of a perpetrator. It will be interesting to see how much more he grows but he is a very nice looking player. I was very impressed with his pullup jumper off the dribble. Holmes didn't run and jump much tonight and I think that is out of respect to the ability of Ruthsatz to control the ball. I will be anxious to see how Holy Cross plays him. He may wear out against their pressure, but his passing ability should lead to open shots against Holy Cross because once you break their pressure you can get good looks. Cov. Cath. has a solid team and play very hard, but there are some holes in their defense that can be exploited. I thought Palmer played a very heady game for Holmes. He didn't have many turnovers tonight and did a pretty solid job of staying in front of Ruthsatz. Knox did a good job of scoring once he got his man pinned and doesn't mind contact. Rice on the other hand is more finesse and had his flashes. Bolden for Holmes will be a nice player once he gets a little weight on him. He did have one really nice coast to coast for two. As for the crowd, I thought it was a pretty solid crowd for a Tuesday night in January. I was a little surprised at the size of the Cov Cath section. The dimming of the lights with music and spotlight in pregame is a nice addition which you don't see much in high school. Thursday night at Holy Cross will be fun to watch, at least for three quarters.

Who is Simpson? Palmer is not 6'0, not even close to 6'0. It will be an interesting game.

I must have been one of the last ones in. My buddy and I got in right after the girls game was over. It was a nice cool 60 degrees in the lobby, walked up the steps and into a greenhouse. The Martin kid for Holmes took two nasty spills right in front of me. One time Knox caught an inbounds pass for a wide open layup and wiped out. I thought the game should have been stopped early in the first quarter. It even looked like the ball was slick. Exhaust fans would help. Would a heavy curtain help in the entrance to the cool air from coming in? Also you have those two ext doors on the endline that I am sure get a bit drafty. Tough deal but it was the right decision.

A few points from reading through this thread. One, the KHSAA is not going to release info on their decisions and ruling because it deals with minors. Two, I don't know how the "non-performing school" comes into play in regards to private/parochial schools, no matter the public school, because the private/parochial schools are not held to the same standard as the public schools. Private and parochial schools are not held to the same accountability model instituted by the Kentucky Department of Education and I do not believe they are held accountable to No Child Left Behind. This would be apples to oranges, because private/parochials are not held to the same standard. I just do not see how this could be applicable. As mentioned before, the three common uses to determine eligibility in regards to transfers is: (a) a bona fide change of residence; (B) a divorce and a resulting change of residence to live with one parent due; and © a change in custody (pursuant to court order) to one parent or to a third person where the court has found that (1) the parents are unfit, or (2) the health and welfare of the student would be better served by the change in custody.

The Maroons are a decent team, but the margin of victory kind of surprised me in this one. Pulaski gets Scott in the second round of the Republic Bank Classic.

Impressive victory for the Pioneers. Fayette County was a top 10 team in the state of GA and came into the game with an undefeated record.

What is proff? Proof? Read between the lines. You think a kid is just going to go there on a whim? People were on here saying he was there and going to transfer. Somebody is in his ear, I would imagine.

I think all could understand if this were the case. However, when you have people talking to the kid and wanting him to come out to Holy Cross to visit and have a look see, then you are cross the line.

I have heard Madison Central has some nice young talent coming through. Is Mason County that down this year?

The Cardinals are on a nice little run. Are they the favorites in the 10th now?

Fleming has been a surprise in the 16th this year.

So how does this ACUE money work? Clearly, Holy Cross has been a beneficiary of this, one would think.

I think that Coach Kidwell has done a really nice job with his team. They have been scoring in bunches and Skaggs can fill it up. Ashland is decent but they have some real head scratchers in regards to losses. Rowan has ventured out and played some tough teams. They did beat the 9th Region favorite. I still think that they will miss Cross more than people realize.

I am not certainly giving up on them at all, because there is no real dominant team in the region this year. Holmes will go as far as Dontel Rice can carry them and up to this point he has not really shown that "killer instinct" to want to be that guy. I am not knocking the kid, because from afar he seems like a likeable quiet kid, but some people are wired with that want to and drive and others are simply satisfied with the status quo. Outside of Rice, there is no one who really jumps out at you talent and athlete wise. They are going to have to do it as a team on both ends of the floor. They miss the two kids from last year who could get into the paint, in Gray and Hayes. The guards they have now really cant beat people off the dribble and that allows interior defenses to double Rice. You need good guards to advance in tourney play. Holy Cross has seasoned kids and Covington Catholic has seemingly added a dominant point guard which I think is directly tied to their early season success. I doubt that the Hoskins kid, actually never even heard of him, or Peterson would help. The Peterson situation may be more like a addition by subtraction type of issue. Wasnt he like at three different schools and off and on the football field at Holmes this year? Those are red flags in my opinion. Coach Booher has had success and will have them playing better by season's end, but a crucial stretch is right around the corner.

Holmes has lost to two teams this week that they probably shouldn't have lost to. Last week I said I thought they were the third best team in their district and since then, there hasn't been anything to change my mind. In fact, I would think the gap has widened between them and Holy Cross and Covington Catholic. Can they turn it around? They probably can, but after checking Riherds, they have Covington Catholic and Holy Cross back to back in early January. That is not good. You definitely want that one seed in their district. At this point, I think that the expectations many had for this team at the start of the year do not meet their actual talent level.

Pretty common knowledge that Pouncy did not move. Maybe it is all in paperwork. Guardianship change out of the district, but dont actually move.

I think Rowan misses the Cross kid more than people realize.

He can go there but will have to sit out a year athletically. They have been pursuing this kid for a while from what I have been told. There seemingly been a Reformation at Holy Cross. Minority grants in aid from the diocese, has been a boon for Holy Cross the last couple of years, plus hiring some staff people with connections.

Isn't Ashland considered to be the favorite in the 16th?

This is a really solid win for Bardstown.

Surprised by the margin of this game.

St. Henry just outplayed Holmes in the second half. They went to the offensive glass, and got to the majority of loose balls in the second half. They got far too many easy baskets in their half court offense, especially in the second half. Give them credit they hung in there and weathered the storm in the second quarter and came out ready after the half. For Holmes, I thought Martin's three pointer with a few minutes left was a huge shot for Holmes. Rice played well in spurts, but he disappears at times still. Coston is a streaky shooter and I'm not quite sure I would anoint him has one of the best three point shooters in the region. Holmes still struggles to score at times. The biggest thing they are missing is a real penetrator. Palmer does well in transition, but lacks real explosiveness to get to the basket. He will get better as he gets stronger, but his size is an issue in regards to finishing around the rim. Coston has the build for it, but not quite sure if he can handle the ball well enough to attack the basket from the perimeter. When Holmes can get rebounds and outlet and go, they are fun to watch, but when the game slows down, they struggle in the halfcourt. In addition, there are times that they really labor on the glass, and that can allow teams to hang aroung. Holmes is still a dangerous team and are finding their way a bit. This is the same St. Henry team that got beat by 20+ to Cov. Cath. correct? The Holy Cross and Cov Cath games should be fun to watch.
