47-47 at the end of third and senior Dontel Rice steps up with 12 in the 4th quarter to lead Holmes to the W...including a nice one hand dunk to seal the deal.

It was a game that Holmes had control of by halftime and came out the 2nd half and had no energy. St Henry got multiple shots at the basket in the 3rd quarter

Holmes looked unbeatable the last 10 minutes of the first half then very average the remainder of the game. Give the Cru credit they outhustled the Bulldogs in the 2nd half and hit their shots. Rice took over the game the last 4 quarter. No doubt in my mind he's the best player in the region when he wants to be. Nice win for the Bulldogs but they have to play the whole game against the the best teams.

The ending to the game was kind of confusing. After the Rice dunk with about a minute to play, Holmes led by 8. The Cru missed a shot and Holmes got the ball

back with 45 seconds and let the Bulldogs run out the clock. I would have thought they would have fouled. You probably are going to lose but at least make them

hit free throws. Just couldn't figure it out.

Leading scorers for St Henry? Sounds like a pretty good showing. This St Henry squad has a real chance to surprise people and keep getting better as the season goes on. Lets remember....they are very young!

I don't know names but #32 played real well as did their point guard the second half. The Cru had a lot of turnovers the 1st half they couldn't handle the pressure. They brought the big guys to help out in the second half and did a better job. Holmes pressure defense just vanished the second half. They missed shots and

St Henry shot well the second half by getting easy baskets.

Leading scorers for St Henry? Sounds like a pretty good showing. This St Henry squad has a real chance to surprise people and keep getting better as the season goes on. Lets remember....they are very young!

 

If I had to guess, I'd say Meiman and Dedden were leading scorers. Both played well.

Holmes continues to shoot well from outside... 9 treys tonight.

Coston just might be the best three point shooter in the region. Not sure of his percentage but he has 8 or 9 in the last two games.

 

Dontel Rice was the difference. He really stepped up in the 4th quarter scoring 8 straight to give Holmes the lead and give them some breathing room and he played well at both ends of the floor.

 

Meiman and Dedden were tough for the Cru and St Henry handled Holmes pressure well, all things considered. There would be spurts where Holmes would get several turnovers in a Row to go on runs, but St Henry also got easy baskets and hit the offensive glass hard. At one point they got 3 or 4 consecutive offensive rebounds on the same possession. Very scrappy bunch and typical Coach Faust led team. Kids play hard and execute what coach has them do. Their zone bothered Holmes at tbd beginning but once Holmes hit a few shots, you could see the confidence grow in the Bulldogs.

Lastly, it was very refreshing to see Palmer play aggressive tonight and take his man off the dribble. He has such a quick first step that thete aren't too many kids in this region that can stick with him. He has a nasty crossover that made his defender fall and then hit a stepback 3.

 

Overall, good win for Holmes but they still need to sure a few things up. Credit St Henry for playing hard. Holmes got up 12 and the Cru fought back to take a 5 point lead.

I thought Martin getting in foul trouble in the 3rd quarter caused the Bulldogs to lose energy. He is a nice player and does the little things that helps teams win.

Colston missed his 1st two treys and then lit it up the 2nd quarter. The Cru did a good job denying him the ball in he 2nd half, but Palmer was left one on one and

he penetrated and made them pay. If the Cru is young, as posted earlier, then they have promise in the future. I really like the way they never gave up when it

looked like they were going to get blown out of the gym at halftime.

The Bulldogs are very inconsistent in games. They are going to be in the hunt in the region, though. They are 7-1 that's not too

shabby. This is not the Holmes team from 2-5 years ago and I don't think anyone thought they would be. They are a regional

contender. As I've stated before, they can beat anyone in the region, but they will throw in a clunker or two also.

Outside of a lackluster third quarter, Holmes controlled this game. Take away that third, and Holmes wins by 17.

 

St Henry isn't a bad team though. They play hard and have several players in Kuebbing and Meiman that can compete with anyone in this region.

 

Holmes isn't a dominating team and won't blow too many teams out. Talent is there but they lack the consistency right now..tonights third quarter is a perfect example of this. Coach Booher will work this out as the season progtrsses. Anytime he called a timeout tonight, Holmes would come out and go on a nice run. That's a sign of good coaching.
