I agree completly, Bellevue will be fighting for a playoff spot, not a state championship.

And as Gino was quoted as saying in the article, who knows what Colorado would have had him doing, or done for him once he got out there.

Dry drills are also useful. They sound cheesy and ineffective, but simply envisioning pitches, working on proper fundamentals. This is a very easy drill that a kid can do alone if they have no one to practice with, and all that is needed is a bat.

Should make for a well contested rematch between Ludlow and Lloyd in the boys game.

Hardin has done great things for this years Ludlow team. One of the keys to the Panthers ability to compete night in and night out was a player to step up and take the pressure off King and Penick. In the games I have seen I have been very impressed with not only his consistency scoring, but his great play on the defensive end of the ball. Its just great to see such a hard working player make great strides to help his team and improve his game.

Not that it matters, but this is much less of a stretch then Ludlow's run through the field at Rupp. Actually, I won't say anything else, the fact that you decided to respond to that shows just how serious people are about sports around here, and how quick they are to put down others.

I would have to agree Newport, after it has been raining and there is no grass on the field. While it might sound sarcastic, it was fun to play on. Though I always loved to play on my home field at Ludlow. IMO, the talent may not always be top notch, but 1A football between the river cities is some of the most exciting football a person can see. Great atmosphere, and an all out war on the field.

Not to take anything away from Coach Eckstein, he is a great coach who did great things at Carroll County and is now doing great things at Bellevue, but does anyone actually believe he scared off Coach Hensley? If anyone truly believes this, they not only know nothing about football in the district, but they also have no idea what it means to be a man.

As far as taunts towards the players, most kids can ignore them, and some even find humor in them. In this, student sections usually aren't malicious, but as with everything there is a line that can be crossed. I think teachers/faculty supervision is a great idea, as everyone still has the ability to have a good time, cheer on their school, and even tease the other school a little bit. But the key is that it is kept in clean fun, and nothing more comes about from it.

Adams is over at Eastern Kentucky.

I'm not going to try and put him in with the elite of Kentucky, or for that matter Northern Kentucky, but look for Joe Bell at Ludlow to have a good year. It will be his first year starting varsity as a Junior, and I believe he can be a very good Class A quarterback. Physically he has developed quite nicely, and with continued work, which I presume will happen knowing the good and hard working type of kid he is, he can lead the Panthers back to the playoffs.

There even is room for some friendly banter back and forth between the student sections. But when a student section as a whole is cheering a swear-word, there is a serious line that has been crossed. There were small children everywhere, and this happened several times. I felt it was truly an embarrassing moment for the school. Calling the Ludlow kids "River Rats" is one thing, many schools do, but do not bring your act of thugs in to our gym and use disrespectful language around our youth.

Seemed like Wright and Klosterman got a lot of starts in their time at Ludlow to not be considered starters.

Not sure on the exact final score, Lloyd wins by four. Entertaining game put on tonight by the two schools. The game certainly had its sloppy moments, but the teams played hard and were at each other all night. It looks to be a great match up, presumably, should these schools earn the two and three seeds for their new district. I was very disappointed by what should have been nothing more than friendly chants between the two schools. The Lloyd fan section started a chant in which a curse word was used, and I believe this is simply unacceptable. There were small children everywhere in the tiny Ludlow gym, and I for one could not help but to feel embarrassed for them. This is not college or professional basketball, not that it is right to use such language in that context either, but under no circumstances should this happen in a high school game. Really put a damper on what was otherwise a nice night of basketball. Congratulations to both teams on a hard fought game.

Agreed completly. Metal is dangerous, not that wood is completly safe, but metal bats are tough. I am taking a coaching baseball class here at school and our teacher has coached everywhere from high school, to georgetown college, to the university of kentucky, and he told us just today he would play third basemen on bunts much differently than aluminum, simply to give them more of a shot should a liner catch them. I also agree that wood bats would help the create more pure hitters, and generally help in player developement.

It is absolutely preposterous to compare these girls to 40 year old beer drinking leaguers, and make the unfair assertion that all they do is sit around. First off, go down the rosters of these schools, especially the small ones. Now look at the rosters for cheerleading, volleyball, golf, etc... Notice any similarities. These girls are very competitive, whether the ball is coming fast or not. For those who say this isn't really a sport anyway, play third base in a game. As far as the girls playing a game that is often played by old beer drinkers, has anyone been on a golf course lately? But the idea of getting rid of this sport would create an uproar. Do these athletes put in more effort than girls soft ball players then? Of course not, as much the effort that goes in to hitting a chip shot is put in to catching a fly ball on the run. The twenty schools that take part in slow pitch softball have some of the hardest working girls in the state, and they just want to compete in their chosen sport. To say that it is uncompetitive is unfair, especially when justified it is a beer drinkers sport. Football and basketball are uncompetitive when a bunch of “forty somethings” take a case of beer and go play (and there are leagues for this in both sports). The sport is as competitive and difficult as the girls decide to make it, and the girls playing slow-pitch do not take the game lightly.
