You make an excellent point. Student athletes generally graduate from college at a higher rate than the overall student population for the very reasons you pointed out. After 2 years as a collegiate student athlete, I transferred out to a larger school and opted not to play sports. My grades fell. After another transfer, I did finish my degree, but had to finish my final year taking 18 hours per semester, working a part time job, playing music in bars with a wife and an infant son. Had I stayed at the smaller school and continued as a student athlete, I have no doubt I would have graduated in 4 or no more than 4 & 1/2 years. While I am very happy with my life and family and wouldn't trade them for ANYTHING in this world, to stay would have been the smarter decision.

If you love to play the game, then it is absolutely worth it. If you really don't love the game (not like it, but love it), then it isn't.

Linkins must be Likins, ... but I am not sure who Stinson is. I don't think there is a Stinson on the roster. There is a Spencer.

I don't know if he can really contribute at UK, ... but would LOVE to see him succeed. He was fun to watch in HS, that's for sure. That night, it seemed that when Middlesboro wanted to score, just get the ball in his hands.

NL has played a tough schedule and have been improving all season. They are not a bad team, but an average team with no size that has played a tough schedule. These types of games will make them a darkhorse in the 13th. I don't see them winning the 13th, but they could make some noise given the level of competition they have played. I am not surprised they played Dixie pretty close and actually led at the end of the first half.

I was fortunate enough to see this young man play on several occasions. My favorite (and least favorite at the same time as I am from London) was the 6 TD performance against South Laurel on Halloween in 2008 when I was calling a game for broadcast. He scored in many different ways. 4 rushing, 1 receiving and 1 interception return for a TD.

This is a great hire for Franklin County. He did a great job at building Woodford football and his team's were fun too watch.

I believe that the Lady Generals are very young. Tyra was one heck of a player and losing her really hurt. Plus, ... Clay County is really, really good.

Because all too often, people don't admit when they were wrong. I think our kids need to see that example of admitting that you made a mistake, take the consequences (2 game suspension) and move forward. We trash them when they do the wrong thing but don't recognize when they do the right thing.

He really is. I think he will be an excellent fit for Univ of the Cumberlands. If I am not mistaken, I believe he has scored TDs in almost every possible way. Rushing, receiving, punt return, kickoff return, fumble return and I think via interception. I had the pleasure of seeing all of his games from last year either in person or on film and he was really fun to watch.

He is an exciting playmaker. He led the team in yards per touch. He was able to score on special teams, at WR, from the QB position in the 'wildcat', on defense, you name it and he found a way to score. I loved watching him play and UofC picked up a good one. District player of the year on the #2 team in the district. Good lateral quickness, good field vision, can cut on a dime and has some nice spin moves. I think this is a good fit.

I would have lost it. That is pretty funny.

I applaud Coach Wright for coming forward and doing the right thing. He has been a very successful coach for a long time and it can happen to the best of them.

Thanks. I was going thru threads in the HS and college basketball forums and in most of them, the officials are being criticised. Even by fans of the winning teams. I agree there are bad calls in nearly every game. It happens. Players and coaches make mistakes, so do officials. But apparently, the officials aren't permitted that luxury. It happens, and more often than not there is no intent to cheat anyone. Just a mistake.

I would not think that calling out officials like that would have a positive effect at any level.

You can tell that the postseason is just about upon us. I saw coaches from Knox Central, South Laurel, Jackson County and I think 1 or 2 others at this game last night.

I disagree. #5 started the jv and varsity game and he can flat fill it up from outside. But when I left early in the 4th quarter, I believe he had only taken 2 outside shots and was 1 for 2. I cannot remember his name but he appeared to be an excellent shooter. I do agree that neither team looked impressive. Both teams missed some easy shots, especially early on in the game. Another thing that hurts Harlan County is their schedule. They have a solid record, but really haven't played many top notch teams. Who is the tall kid who just transferred to Harlan County that started in the post last night?

I think we are extremely hard on officials. Every bad call is not someone being cheated. I think that fans are often way too hard on the officials and the ones who generally are have never put on the stripes and seen what it is like and would never last if they did. It is a very difficult job, ... and a thankless job. Do it right, you never hear a word. Make a mistake or even a 'perceived mistake' and you will get reemed, called a cheater, etc. Just like in any profession, there are good ones and there are bad ones. The good ones can have bad nights and even the bad ones can have good nights. Rest assured, that no matter how good a crew calls a game, ... if it is a close game, someone will blame them.

Final from London. Harlan Co led early, North climbed on top about midway thru the 1st quarter and led the rest of the way. Solid win for the Jaguars after 2 tough losses to #1 Trinity and #7 Shelby Valley.

Koogler does a good job. Leslie will have a young team and every few years those young guys have a very solid season. Then they will rebuild again. I think he does a pretty good job at Leslie County.

In Laurel County the student athletes are not permitted to transport themselves in any way. They MUST travel with the team for away games or they cannot play for liability purposes.

I don't know anything about this one, but I do know that I have heard officials in the past make comments before a game that given the chance they would 'T up or eject' a player or coach. I have never thought that a wise choice of words if in fact the situation arose and the player/coach was indeed ejected. Again, I was not at this game, don't know who the officials were and if this was an issue. Just saying that I have talked to enough officials who have it in the back of their mind regarding certain players/coaches from past experiences, situations they have heard about, or personal feelings. On another note, congrats to Clay on a big win. This is a huge confidence builder for the Tigers going forward towards the regional tournament.

Thought this would be a very close game. I am not shocked by the fact that Rock won (as they are tough) but by the margin of victory. Very impressive win by the Rockets over 1 of the top 3 teams in the 13th region.
