As far as I know Somerset has only one retired jersey. This jersey belonged to Johnathon Perdue who was killed in a car accident somewhere around 1990 or 1991.

Looking forward to the season getting started against Knox Central. Somerset returns almost the entire team from last year and are looking good so far in practice. I don't know what Knox Central returns but this game will be good. I watched Knox last year against Pulaski (yes you guys got ROBBED with capital letters) and was very impressed with the team.

I would like to see a possible matchup between Somerset and McCreary Central in the next few years. Could be a good matchup. I know a few Somerset fans that live in Whitley.

I see Wayne County finishing second in the district. I was impressed with them last year and am looking forward with the matchup with Somerset. Here's how I see the district shaping out: 1.Somerset 2. Wayne Co. 3. Garrard Co. 4. Taylor Co. 5. Casey Co. 6. Jackson Co.

Not certain but I think that Lex. Catholic won and will play Corbin in the 1st game saturday at 9:30 a.m.

I still haven't found anything out on Bowling Green/Franklin-Simpson but we still may very well see round 3 of Meece and Corbin. However this plays out the future of Somerset and Corbin is definately looking bright.

Anyone have information on either Franklin-Simpson and Bowling Green 7th grade. Meece Middle (Somerset) will be playing the winner in the state semi-finals (assuming we beat Southern on tuesday night). Meece stands at 12-1 with our only loss coming to Corbin by 4 earlier in the season. We beat Corbin the other night for the conference championship 18-0.

I've felt for some time now that this group is going to be special. The key was how our line plays. After yesterday most of my doubts are gone, we not only have size but also have depth. We travel to Foley on Thursday.

Meece Middle played Bell Co. today. Meece won the 7th grade game 52-12 with the clock running early in the 3rd quarter. Bell Co. won the 8th grade game 28-8.

I look for Garrard to compete for the district title with Somerset, Wayne Co, and Taylor Co, but won't make it through Belfry or Breathitt Co. for the region title.

Somerset's numbers are on the rise. We only have 4-6 Seniors but as a whole have more kids out than any other time in the Jay Cobb era. I'm not for sure on an exact total but somewhere in the 40's. Look for this to rise the next few years as the small Senior and Junior class graduates.

My opinion is that T. Slaughter starts from day one! Don't know what position but the kid is too good to be on the sidelines. S. Wilson will also see significant playing time.

Spears will be the starting QB.

Probably not the two that you're asking about but there should be a new guy at practice anyday. He and his family has moved here from Georgia.

I agree with you, I would love to see Somerset play both Pulaski and Southwestern each year. As to why they don't, I can't answer that am not going to speculate why becuase that is all that it is on most of our parts--speculation.

Thanks for the information you saved me some time. This only enforces my opinion that Somerset does not shy away from competition like many say they do. A small 1A school at the time playing much larger schools.:thumb:

Could you explain? Harlan County is not in the Somerset district.

I have seen the field and am very impressed, but if Pulaski plans on having a 4team bowl they better make vast improvements to the visitor section.

I also had heard that this will be the last year that PC and SW play in the Ray Correll Bowl. I too feel that this is a shame, although I'm not going to comment on the circumstances of the withdrawl because I don't know any details. I do however wish that Somerset would play both schools each year.

If Slaughter doesn't start then he will no doubt see significant playing time. However I feel he will start and don't be surprised of all places you see him playing nose guard. I've heard great things about Wilson during early practice and at the 7 on 7's. Wilson will also see significant playing time this year.

Trey Slaughter from Somerset will be an impact freshman this year.

At this point I would say that the district is fairly wide open between Somerset, Garrard, and Wayne Co. Somerset did lose a lot from last years team but have a great amount of young talent that will fill in the gaps. Wayne Co. returns there RB (not for sure of his name) that will carry the load for them. He's top notch if he can hold onto the ball better, he seemed to fumble at some not so opportune times. I'm not to up to date on Garrard Co. but if they return most of there team then they could be a solid district contender.
