How are the 3A teams from dist. 3-5 looking for this upcoming year?

 

Casey, Garrard, Jackson, Somerset, Taylor, and Wayne Counties. Somerset (9-4) had a really good team last year, but with Cole gone, will they be as potent on offense? Wayne 7-4 came in 2nd, Garrard (5-7) came in 3rd, but got a playoff win against Wayne, and Taylor came in 4th at 5-6 but played Garrard and Wayne tough.

 

How many starters does each of these teams have coming back? Will it most likely be the same 4 in the postseason in the same order or will there be some movement by others?

Somerset loses quite a bit, but they are always a top-notch team. I'd still call them the district favorite. If I'm not mistaken Wayne County lost their quarterback, who was the man on that team. I'd expect them to take a small step back, but they've been developing a pretty solid program. Garrard County has a new coaching staff, but returns almost everyone. The talent is there to be successful, but it will depend on how they take to the staff. Taylor County should be solid, and potentially adding Leonard Macon to their team shouldn't hurt. As for Casey and Jackson, I'm guessing they'll still be around the bottom of the chart, but both sides show signs of progress last year. They are capable of pulling an upset of the top three, mostly because the top three aren't necessarily that good!

Might want to check out the Boyle thread about the Leonard Macon presence at Taylor. The rumor there is he has returned to the Danville area and will be going to Boyle. :thumb:

Thanks. I hadn't been looking at much football stuff on BGP, so I'm not up to date. I'm not at all surprised by this, though. Without Macon, Taylor County will likely be about the same.

At this point I would say that the district is fairly wide open between Somerset, Garrard, and Wayne Co. Somerset did lose a lot from last years team but have a great amount of young talent that will fill in the gaps. Wayne Co. returns there RB (not for sure of his name) that will carry the load for them. He's top notch if he can hold onto the ball better, he seemed to fumble at some not so opportune times. I'm not to up to date on Garrard Co. but if they return most of there team then they could be a solid district contender.

Garrard returns all but one starter on defense. This is a advantage because they have seen everything that every team has. With a new system on offense that no one has seen in our district it should have other defenses on the fritz. The distrcit will be tough but I belive it will be Garrard, then Taylor with running back Chris Thomas should pose problems for defense. Third is Somerset and then Wayne.

Somerset does have quite a few players to replace from last years team. However Somerset has quite a bit of young talent that should get better and better as the year goes on. Do not count them out in having a say in this district.

Seems like one of those years where Somerset will go 5-5 during the regular season, but will be playing much better at the end of the year and will make a push in the postseason. Until they lose, they are the hands-down favorite in this district.

I'm looking forward to Somerset coming up to Garrard and playing. The Jumpers haven't played in Lancaster since 1981!
